Madison Shaw left college in Boston for an online classroom as Covid spread in 2020 because she’s immunocompromised. She also had to flee New York City the following year as infection rates skyrocketed there again. Now 22 and having lived in Newport, Rhode Island, for a few months, Shaw said she’s wondering where she can find refuge next. Finding a safe place to live and work with common variable immunodeficiency — a condition that limits her body’s ability to produce antibodies and fight infections — is difficult outside of a pandemic. Right now, however, it's becoming near impossible. Even as

They can still wear their danged masks, they can get their vaccines and 50 billion boosters...nobody is stopping them.

What BS. Such people, and their visiting families, mask up when in each other's presence. It won't do much good, we've found, but there's nothing to stop you from PERSOANLLY choosing to follow the masking protocols.
But I shouldn't have to be forced to mask up, across town, or unless I am visiting YOU.

Ignorance supercharges fear.
First, masks basically do zip, nada to stop the virus in its contagious aerosol form.
Secondly, the world has never seen a favorable cost/benefit ratio into turning itself into a "Bubble Boy". The reasons are becoming evermore obvious considering what "lockdowns" have accomplished.
And third... you are going to die. Turning the world on its head won't change that. Not the timing or the fact.

Got some news for you, honey, the only thing that masks do for people is hide the bottom half of their faces. If you lived through the last two years you will be fine except for maybe dying of heart failure when you run into one of us maskless anti-vaxxers.

Once again the majority should suffer to "protect" the few. What a crock. If you are scared of being around people, stay home.

What absolute bullshit. And NBC expects America to swallow this swill? NBC is the propaganda arm of the DNC and they are not a legit. "news" organization. The children running this platform have an agenda, one I will never follow.

Don't worry, Madison, masks won't help anyway. You're at no more or less risk than before.

"Immunocompromised" is the new ADHD, the new Asperbergers, the new bulimia... it is the "disease" of the month. Some people are absolutely immunocompromised, e.g., patients going through chemo. But many others are exagerating and luxuriating in their new "identity" like an old college friend who has been anxiously proclaiming that she is immunocompromised but her "compromise" is a slow thryoid. She takes synthroid. Very common. Not a comorbidity. She lets her guard down when it suits her. (e.g., masking, traveling, etc.) Trying to reason with these people is exhausting and pointless. You can't argue someone out of their anxiety. In the meantime, best of luck to this young woman who is sheltering in Newport, NEWPORT! arghhhh....

Where does this reporter, Phil McCuasland, find people to write about? Is it random...like going through a phone book (if you remember those) and calling them about their story? He just so happens to find one immunocompromised person, Madison Shaw, and her anecdote is if she is proof-positive pretext for COVID mandates. That's not reporting. That's pushing a narrative, with a dose of shaming on those who go against the narrative.
While I understand, Madison's plight, no matter how well-intentioned it may be to assuage her fears, a minority projecting one's fear and desires on the majority is bad policy.

They can wear a space suit if they want, but I am not going to wear a mask. It is not my job to keep them healthy. It is there job.

Just another ploy using Sympathy as a reason to keep wearing masks to infinity and beyond! Don’t fall for it. Remember when peanuts were banned from airlines because ONE child onboard was possibly allergic to nuts.

At one time this was called survival of the fittest, but now the herd has to bow to the weakest member and drag them along the path of life. Same way with academics — you can’t be too smart as that’s not fair to the incompetent students. Those students now make up the majority of the Biden government.

It is not very clear that patients with CVID do much worse than normal patients with COVID, though they may be slower to clear the virus. Outpatient Remdesivir or Paxlovid should stop them getting too sick. There is no good evidence that the typical way we all have worn masks helps them (or anybody else).

What if the Wuhan Flu didn't exist? Immunocompromised individuals would still be exposed to the flu and the common cold, two of ma y respiratory viruses. Wear your mask if it makes you feel better or just stay home in your cocoon.

None of the masks can stop the virus.
Even the N95 won't stop it.
N95 will stop .03 microns.
The virus is only .01 micron.

Maybe Madison and Elizabeth Griest should ask Biden why he's withholding life-saving monoclonal antibodies from them. Terrifying, indeed!

Next month, my sister will give one of her kidneys to her husband. (Late 70's) He will have to live the rest of his life on anti-rejection drugs and avoid infections. They are not whining that everyone else should change to adapt to them.
And they are in California.
