A beautiful young man died last week. He had just turned 15. Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, a once-loyal member of Donald Trump's court, is refusing to bend a knee to the former president and says backing him in the 2024 election 'is too much to ask' after Trump publicly attacked his character. Trump allegedly branded popular governor as having 'no personal charisma' and a 'dull personality' as rumors swirl the ex-president is angry DeSantis hasn't declined to challenge him for the GOP presidential nomination. DeSantis, however, has told his inner circle that Trump's 'expectation that he bend the knee is asking too much,' the New York Times reported.

Ashli Babbitt desperately tried to prevent rioters from vandalizing the doors leading to the Speaker’s Lobby at the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021, even stepping between one troublemaker and police officers guarding the doors, a video analysis shows. Frame-by-frame video evidence analyzed by The Epoch Times paints a vastly different picture of Babbitt’s actions than that portrayed in media accounts over the past year. News media regularly painted Babbitt as “violent,” a “rioter,” or an “insurrectionist” who was angrily trying to breach the Speaker’s Lobby. Video clips appear to show she tried to prevent the attack, not join it.

Texas’ highest court for criminal cases on Wednesday struck down a law that allows the attorney general to unilaterally prosecute election cases. The state’s Court of Criminal Appeals issued an 8-1 opinion saying a provision of the law violates the separation of powers clause in the Texas Constitution, representing an intrusion by the executive branch into the judicial branch. The attorney general can only get involved in a case when asked to by a district or county attorney, the court said.  CORRECTION*

Just days ago, the Supreme Court issued two rulings that have the internet chattering about how the Court killed the administration’s vaccine mandate. While I don’t want to throw cold water on the celebration, I have to say I don’t read things that way. Yes, one of the rulings killed the attempt to use OSHA to force businesses to require vaccination of their employees, that is the only bright spot I see. Rather than a decisive blow for freedom, it looks more like a fairly minor victory in a skirmish with the battle still to be won or lost.  CORRECTION*

New York - President Joe Biden's 2022 is off to a dreadful start. Prices at the pump could make it even worse. Crude oil has already zoomed back to two-month highs. Gasoline prices, which move with a lag, have stopped their muted decline. And they're starting to creep higher again. The energy resurgence is only going to add to the economic anxiety gripping the United States and sinking Biden's poll numbers. "This is a terrible situation. Gas prices are in this political danger zone," Helima Croft, head of global commodity strategy at RBC Capital Markets, told CNN. The White House knows

ROME—The U.K.-based Guardian newspaper wondered aloud Tuesday why Joe Biden is one of the most unpopular presidents in U.S. history, calling his low esteem a “puzzle.”“Joe Biden ends his first year in office at a particularly bleak moment for a US president who promised competency and normalcy,” writes Lauren Gambino for the notoriously left-wing Guardian. “After winning more votes than any presidential candidate in American history, Biden is now – just 12 months later – one of the country’s most unpopular presidents,” Gambino asserts, noting that a Quinnipiac poll released last week found Biden with a “dire” 33 percent approval rating.

First up this week though is the voting rights legislation that would make Election Day a federal holiday, reform the redistricting process and tighten campaign finance laws.
