Democrats' attempt to use a "nuclear option" to get around the filibuster for two major elections bills failed Wednesday after the gambit from Majority Leader Chuck Schumer was stymied by Sens. Joe Manchin and Kyrsten Sinema.
Manchin, D-W.Va., and Sinema, D-Ariz., joined all Senate Republicans in opposing the attempt to alter the Senate filibuster on party lines, resulting in a 48-52 final tally. That vote followed a failed attempt by Democrats to advance the election bills over the Senate's 60-vote filibuster threshold. All Republicans opposed it. If President Joe Biden’s press conference Wednesday was supposed to inspire confidence, it failed — horribly.
Even though he spent most of it clearly calling on reporters from a list of “safe” questioners provided by his staff, he stumbled and bumbled and all too often made no sense at all. Plus, he repeated his bizarre “whisper shout” gimmick to emphasize certain points — when what it actually emphasizes is his age.
On that note, he kept walking down memory lane, reminiscing about how “in my day” cable news was like that; the Republican Party was like this, and so on. He’s fighting old wars in his head,

The corrupt Pennsylvania Secretary of State, Dominion Voting Machines, and now the Democrats in the Pennsylvania Senate all desperately want to end the investigation of the voting machines in Fulton County. Today they dropped nearly 750 pages of garbage arguments and made their plea in front of the Pennsylvania Supreme Court.Remember this… As an international auditor who performed hundreds of audits around the world, I have never seen or heard about an auditee refusing to be audited. I have certainly never experienced an auditee take me to court to prevent an audit from taking place…

Senate Democrats failed to advance their voting rights legislation on Wednesday in yet another major blow to President Joe Biden's domestic agenda.Republicans blocked the measure with the filibuster mechanism in a 49-51 vote when Democrats needed 60 votes in order to end debate and initiate a vote on the legislation that would overhaul U.S. voting laws. The package combined two separate legislative items that were already passed by the House — the Freedom to Vote Act and the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act.

The increasingly far-left movement, of the formerly moderate Democratic Party, has created a situation in which the proverbial “center aisle” has disappeared in Congress. In blaring examples of hypocrisy, the left has been mocking former President Trump for promoting the Big Lie. The overwhelming majority of Senate Democrats will soon move to eliminate the filibuster -- which has protected the rights of the chamber’s minority for more than a century – because they feel the need to pass ‘voting rights legislation’ is just too intense to be blocked by the 60-vote threshold.
By merging several pieces of legislation into one mega-bill and calling it the ‘Freedom to Vote: John R. Lewis Act,’ Democrats are trying to scare people into believing that if the bill doesn’t pass, they will lose their right to vote.

Seattle—A long-time Seattle business owner is sounding off after he said his business has been "hit" by crime seven times in the past three months alone. This past weekend, Jay Ashberg, the owner of Seattle Shirt Company, said there were back-to-back burglaries at his store. The Seattle Shirt Company is located on the corner of First Avenue and Pike Street. Ashberg is still in shock of how far he believes Seattle has fallen. "This city is unrecognizable to what it was even five years ago, between the homeless and the lack of police, the whole defund the police, decriminalize, it doesn't work," Ashberg said.

Senate Republicans on Wednesday blocked a sweeping election bill, setting up a doomed push by Senate Democrats to try to change the chamber’s legislative filibuster.
Senators voted 49-51, falling short of 60 votes needed to advance the legislation that combines the Freedom to Vote Act, which would overhaul elections and campaign finance laws, with the John Lewis Voting Rights Act, which strengthens the 1965 Voting Rights Act.
Democrats spent the hours leading up to the vote making an 11th hour plea for the legislation — directed at both Republicans and their own members — warning that the votes would go down as a crucial moment in history.

Every three months or so, Joe Biden awakes from his slumber and does a “press conference.” The infrequency of the events is only topped by the absurdity of how they always play out. The president shows up with a binder to read from, calls on pre-selected reporters, and rarely receives a tough question (and when he does, he blows it off and moves on).
Today’s “press conference” was no different. Biden spent several minutes touting his many supposed accomplishments, sharing misleading stats and gaslighting Americans on the failures of his first year in office.
Here’s a bit of what that sounded like.

In a Tuesday letter to Secret Service Director James Murray, Sens. Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) and Ron Johnson (R-Wis.) alleged the agency “hid names and other information contained in email conversations regarding Hunter Biden without any proper legal justification.” The senators specifically noted that documents turned over at their request “do not show whether [Secret Service] personnel or Hunter Biden traveled to Kazakhstan in May or June 2014” during a trip to Paris.

I’m sure by now all readers have seen the account of results from a recent Rasmussen poll of likely voters:
COVID-19: Democratic Voters Support Harsh Measures Against Unvaccinated
(snip)
While many voters have become skeptical toward the federal government’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic, a majority of Democrats embrace restrictive policies, including punitive measures against those who haven’t gotten the COVID-19 vaccine.
(snip) I decided to take a look at the polling internals,(snip) it appears that America leans heavily in a generally conservative direction by globalist standards. The younger generation is cause for concern, but there seems to be room for cautious optimism.

The Department of Defense reportedly wants to allow people who identify as nonbinary to serve openly in the military and is hiring a Washington, D.C.-area think to study the issue. The Pentagon asked the Institute for Defense Analyses to “quietly” determine how it can open up military service to troops who identify as neither male nor female and often use “they” or “them” as their pronouns of choice, according to the online news outlet military.com, which cited three advocates familiar with the request. Lt. Col. Bree Fram, a transgender Air Force officer, told military.com that speaking with nonbinary military personnel is a “great first step”

Dear Joe,
Happy Anniversary.
Can we get a divorce?
Sorry if this isn’t the most effusive of messages as you celebrate your first year in office as President of the United States.
But I fear it’s exactly what many disillusioned Americans, including some who voted for you, are now thinking.
I don’t like to sugar-coat things, so let me be blunt: You’ve been a disaster.
In fact, it’s hard to think of a more insipid, less inspiring, fiasco-ridden opening 12 months to a presidency.
Nor one that has so spectacularly failed to deliver on the promises made at an inauguration ceremony.

This is not a news flash: Modern Democrats are addicted to the blame game.
When they aren’t pointing fingers at Donald Trump, Republicans and the pandemic for everything that goes wrong under the sun, they pick on banks, oil companies and even supermarkets to explain soaring prices on consumer goods.
Big Banks, Big Oil and now Big Grocery have bull’s-eyes on them. Next in line are the amorphous supply chains, which are appealing targets precisely because they are faceless and nameless. Nobody rises to defend supply chains.
Yet despite the Herculean efforts to create villains

Senior Senate Democrats are insisting that universal mail-in ballots and voter drop boxes, measures included in their election overhaul legislation, help to fight racism. Sen. Amy Klobuchar, Minnesota Democrat and chair of the Rules Committee, said the federal voting measure is needed to counter what she called efforts by some states to suppress the vote. “They’ve rolled back things that they’ve changed during the pandemic, like witnesses for mail-in ballots in South Carolina,” she said. “No matter which way they did it, it all adds up to one thing. There’s a phenomenon that happens every once in a while in the media. It usually comes right before an election, but it also happens when there’s a dawning realization that there’s no there there, as when Jon Stewart told his comrades they were stupid for denying the COVID lab leak origin story. Some reporters who cling to their COVID and religion flail like the acrobat who reaches for the next silk rope, catches air, and falls to ignominy. Like Jennifer Rubin.

COVID-19 was less lethal across nearly every age group in its first full year than previously thought, according to an updated review of global research from Stanford University's Meta-Research Innovation Center (METRIC). Between summer and Christmas 2021, METRIC's estimates of deaths from infection fell by half in multiple age groups, including young people, and less sharply in others. The international estimates, which have not been peer-reviewed, are not substantially different from the CDC's own "best estimate" of COVID mortality in the U.S., last updated in March.

(Incidentally, we should all be writing). His reply saddened me profoundly. I received back a two-page harangue of how horrible January 6th was and how it imperiled our democracy. Buried within that harangue were unexpected admissions about the unconstitutional conditions in which far more prisoners are held than most people realize. Surprisingly enough, these admissions gave me hope.

NASA researchers have an estimate of the power of a massive volcanic eruption that took place on Saturday near the island nation of Tonga.
"We come up with a number that's around 10 megatons of TNT equivalent," James Garvin, the chief scientist at NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center, told NPR.
That means the explosive force was more than 500 times as powerful as the nuclear bomb dropped on Hiroshima, Japan, at the end of World War II.
The blast was heard as far away as Alaska and was probably one of the loudest events to occur on Earth in over a century, according to Michael Poland, a geophysicist with the U.S. Geological Survey.

The Washington Post’s editors keep dropping hints about the midterms. Perhaps Democrats have finally started listening. A day after noting that House moderates want to stop obsessing over progressives’ hobby-horse agenda items and go into the midterms with a few wins, the Post reports on how little Democrats have accomplished in their previous high-priority issue of health care.

In 2020, Democrats pledged a slew of health-care changes if voters would just give them Congress and the White House.
