Fulton County, Georgia, District Attorney Paul Howard Jr., held a press conference earlier this afternoon to announce eleven charges against police officer Garrett Wolfe for the shooting death of Rayshard Brooks. The shooting took place at a local Atlanta Wendy’s.
In what appears to be a decision heavily influenced by local politics, DA Howard is charging officer Garrett Wolfe with felony murder, an unlawful killing with malice, forethought and specific intent. It looks like Howard is purposefully making a mess.

According to WSBTV, Rolfe faces “11 counts including felony murder and aggravated assault, criminal damage to property, and violations to his oath of office.” Howard is recommending no bond for the officer, citing his choice not to provide medical assistance for over two minutes and for kicking Brooks on the ground after the fatal shooting.

Two black-history organizations that said nothing when tens of thousands of Black Lives Matter demonstrators “protested” and in some cases rioted across the country filed a lawsuit this week in an attempt to block President Donald Trump’s upcoming Tulsa rally.
But in a ruling Tuesday, Oklahoma Judicial District 14 Judge Rebecca B. Nightingale reportedly rejected the suit.
Filed in Tulsa County by the Greenwood Cultural Centre and the John Hope Franklin Center for Reconciliation, the suit had sought a temporary injunction against ASM Global, the owners of the BOK Center arena where the rally is set to take place this upcoming Saturday.

Presumptive Democratic nominee Joe Biden has opened up a 13-point lead over President Donald Trump – the widest margin this year – according to a poll released Wednesday, although Trump is clearly backed as the better steward of the country’s economy.
In the June 10-16 Reuters/Ipsos poll, 48 percent of registered voters said they would back Biden, while 35 percent said they would give their support to Trump.
Biden’s double-digit advantage is the biggest recorded by the Reuters/Ipsos poll since Democrats began their state contests to nominate their party’s challenger to Trump come November.

A veteran who helped stop a terrorist attack on a Paris-bound train in 2015 is running for Congress in Oregon, telling "Fox & Friends" on Wednesday that liberal Democrat Peter DeFazio "doesn't represent" the rural district anymore.
Alek Skarlatos, a veteran of the Army National Guard who served in Afghanistan, said he became interested in politics after speaking with his state senator on a plane to Washington, D.C. and was encouraged to consider running for office.
"I did some research and the more I learned about the [4th Congressional District] and everything that happened to it under the tenure of Peter DeFazio, the angrier I got," he told host Ainsley Earhardt.
Atlanta officials released photographs on Tuesday of a second suspect in their arson investigation at a Wendy's, which was burned down following the death of 27-year-old Rayshard Brooks.
Images of the two arson suspects, both white females, were shared during a press conference at a fire station on Manford Road, according to Fox 5.
Previous pictures reportedly showed one suspect wearing black clothing and a facial covering. The new photos show another woman without a mask, wearing a black top with a purple shirt wrapped around her waist and a necklace.

Nebraska Democrats are asking their U.S. Senate candidate to quit the race after he sent staffers text messages that the state party described as “sexually inappropriate.”
Omaha baker Chris Janicek sent a group message June 4 to at least five people, including a female staff member who subsequently filed a complaint with the Nebraska Democratic Party. His text said they needed to “get her laid,” referring to the female staffer, who has since quit the campaign.

President Trump was roundly criticized for scheduling a rally in Tulsa on a day celebrated by many African-Americans as “Juneteenth,” which commemorates Union General Gordon Granger’s announcement on June 19, 1865 in Galveston that those held as slaves in Texas were now free. Of course, they had been freed by the Emancipation Proclamation of January 1, 1863 but Granger’s announcement made their emancipation effective.
President Trump wisely agreed to postpone his rally until the next day. But the controversy did not end there because of a horrific event that took place in Tulsa in 1921: the greatest act of violence by whites against African-Americans in the history of the United States.

This bold – yet unsurprising – conclusion comes from the COVID Response Tracking Study, conducted by NORC at the University of Chicago. It finds that just 14% of American adults say they're very happy, down from 31% who said the same in 2018. That year, 23% said they'd often or sometimes felt isolated in recent weeks. Now, 50% say that.

The Aunt Jemima brand of syrup and pancake mix will get a new name and image, Quaker Oats announced Wednesday, saying the company recognizes that "Aunt Jemima's origins are based on a racial stereotype."
The 130-year-old brand features a Black woman named Aunt Jemima, who was originally dressed as a minstrel character.
The picture has changed over time, and in recent years Quaker removed the “mammy” kerchief from the character to blunt growing criticism that the brand perpetuated a racist stereotype that dated to the days of slavery. But Quaker, a (Snip) said removing the image and name is part of an effort by the company “to make progress toward racial equality.”
U.S. Senator Josh Hawley delivered a speech on the floor of the senate that deserves some attention. The larger issue outlined by Senator Halwey surrounds the recent Supreme Court Bowstock decision authored by Justice Gorsuch. However, in overlaying the judicial outcome, Hawley hits on the central issue he calls the “conservative bargain.”

Windsor High School Principal Tiffany Riley has been suspended this week in response to comments she made about the Black Lives Matter movement. Riley sparked controversy in the community when she criticized Black Lives Matter and advocated on behalf of law enforcement and equity for all. The Mount Ascutney School District called Riley’s remarks trained by “ignorance, prejudice, and lack of judgment.”
According to a report by the College Fix, a high school principal in the state of Vermont was placed on administrative leave this week in response to comments she made about the Black Lives Matter movement.
In her remarks, Riley stated that she refuses to support political violence.
A coalition of gun-rights groups has filed a last-minute bid to prevent Virginia from implementing monthly limits on gun purchases.On July 1, Virginia will prohibit residents from buying more than one gun per month unless they are law enforcement or hold a valid gun-carry license. United Airlines announced Monday that passengers who refuse to wear masks will be put on an internal no-fly list and will be banned from boarding future flights.
The airline said the policy will start taking effect Thursday and last for a minimum of 60 days, adding that the policy is being put into place to protect passengers and crew from contracting the coronavirus.
United did, however, note that an “overwhelming majority of passengers” are already wearing masks.
The policy allows for some individuals to be exempted, such as small children or people who have a disability or health condition that prevents them from wearing a mask.

Since 1961, the United States has gone through the civil rights era and all that came afterward. Does anyone really think we're going to rewatch or reread this classic tale of endurance and resilience, of a woman wasting years of her life pining over a man who was wrong for her when the right one was always right there beside her, and decide that the Old South, of which we see just a little before it gets blown up completely, really had something great going on in the plantation system?
Today’s Supreme Court decision protecting Americans from being fired because of sexual orientation certainly makes one thing clear — it is a fool’s errand to predict what a justice is going to do once he is granted life tenure on the high bench. We can’t count the number of times we’ve pressed that point in our decades in the editorial galleys. Rarely, though, has a case so roundly marked the matter as the one decided today.
The case is known as Bostock v. Clayton County, Georgia. The county was haled to court after it fired an employe, Gerald Bostock, who’d started participating in a gay recreational softball league.
The Treasury Department said Tuesday that it has frozen the assets of six Nigerian scammers who targeted American businesses and widows for internet fraud, hoping the same financial tools used against terrorism and drug cartels can make a dent in email phishing scams.
Government officials called the sanctions an “extraordinary step” as the Justice Department announced fraud and identity theft indictments against the six men, all of whom are still at large.

On Tuesday, NBC News published a story claiming that Google had “banned” the Federalist, a right-wing news and commentary site, from its advertising platform. The Federalist, according to NBC News, was being “demonetized.” Google shortly thereafter asserted that no such thing had happened with the Federalist; Google took issue with some of the content in the Federalis’s comments section and worked with the publication to resolve the issue.

By now, we ought to be seeing some evidence of increasing COVID-19 cases from the mass protests. The fact we are not raises very serious doubts about the coronavirus lockdowns and other non-pharmaceutical interventions, many of which are still ongoing.
One explanatory hypothesis is the weather — that outdoor protests in warmish weather might have decreased the infectious potential of SARS-CoV-2. This seems highly unlikely. Even if there is such an effect, it almost definitely doesn’t outweigh the close proximity of protesters to one another. Another explanatory hypothesis is that most protesters are relatively young, and therefore unlikely to fall ill but may asymptomatically transmit the virus.
