Unions representing health care workers, fast food workers and other industries are increasingly flexing their power, as employees take to the picket lines this summer. Across industries, workers are seeking improved benefits, better working conditions and most commonly, increased wages. In California, nearly 1 million fast food and healthcare workers are set to get a major raise after a deal was announced earlier this week between labor unions and industries. Under the new bill, most of California's 500,000 fast food workers will be paid at least $20 per hour next year. And a separate bill will increase health care workers'

So, that means that soon fast food workers in California will number 250,000, or fewer.

Right, but most fast food is going to kiosk or app ordering, so that elimiates a number of workers.

The cost of living in Ca. is 3x most other states, so $20 an hour is equivalent to $7.25 elsewhere.

No, soon nobody will be buying fast food because it's too expensive to eat regularly. Fast food used to be a quick and easy way to feed kids or for a quick lunch meal. Not any more. They are seriously pricing themselves out of business!

#7 For hubby and I to eat at McD's is over $25 for 2 of us. We go to a bar and grill in a small town near us for Taco Tuesdays and have a couple beers and that costs us about $20 with the tip. Why would we eat fast food? Besides McD's doesn't serve beer :)

These raises in pay will cause a lot more inflation, that’s just common sense. Paying illegal aliens $20.00 an hour to work in fast food restaurant kitchens is also going to encourage and invite more mass uncontrolled illegal immigration.

It takes very little to automate the production of burgers and fries. It will also make it a much more consistent product. You'll only need to hire a manager to clean the fryer at the end of the night and may a security guard in the problem areas.

I used to eat lunch at various fast restaurants every day. KFC, The Bell, McD, Subs, Fish n Chips, Soul food, Chinese, Thai, TexMex, Italian, something different every day. Now, since the minimum wage laws passed, the prices are too high and the quality has degraded to the point that I don't eat out any more. I make good money and I still don't want to spend it on $15.00 sandwiches. At least there are no lines any more when I do go to places at lunch time.

The death of Sen. Dianne Feinstein places Gov. Gavin Newsom under intense pressure to quickly name a replacement as a bitterly divided Congress votes on a spending plan in the coming hours to avert a government shutdown. Newsom had hoped to avoid the politically charged decision of selecting a second senator. But he will need to move swiftly as a budget standoff has the government on the verge of shutting down, and Senate Democrats could need every vote. London - One of Ukraine’s closest and most vocal allies has now said it will stop sending arms to Kyiv, a major reversal that threatens to upend Europe’s strategic relationship with the country as it wages a counteroffensive against Russia. Poland’s decision was both sudden and predictable, coming after months of tensions over a temporary ban on Ukrainian grain imports to a number of European Union countries. It also follows a pattern of increasingly confrontational behavior towards Kyiv from Poland’s government, just weeks before a tight general election. And it could have implications for Ukraine’s attempts to push Russian forces
