Unions representing health care workers, fast food workers and other industries are increasingly flexing their power, as employees take to the picket lines this summer. Across industries, workers are seeking improved benefits, better working conditions and most commonly, increased wages. In California, nearly 1 million fast food and healthcare workers are set to get a major raise after a deal was announced earlier this week between labor unions and industries. Under the new bill, most of California's 500,000 fast food workers will be paid at least $20 per hour next year. And a separate bill will increase health care workers'

So, that means that soon fast food workers in California will number 250,000, or fewer.

Right, but most fast food is going to kiosk or app ordering, so that elimiates a number of workers.

And the cost of a 1/4 pounder with cheese will cost $10. It's still inflation no matter how you lipstick it. Expect more robot burger makers.

The cost of living in Ca. is 3x most other states, so $20 an hour is equivalent to $7.25 elsewhere.

Soon fast food workers will be replaced by machines and will be unemployed earning nothing.

No, soon nobody will be buying fast food because it's too expensive to eat regularly. Fast food used to be a quick and easy way to feed kids or for a quick lunch meal. Not any more. They are seriously pricing themselves out of business!

#7 For hubby and I to eat at McD's is over $25 for 2 of us. We go to a bar and grill in a small town near us for Taco Tuesdays and have a couple beers and that costs us about $20 with the tip. Why would we eat fast food? Besides McD's doesn't serve beer :)

These raises in pay will cause a lot more inflation, that’s just common sense. Paying illegal aliens $20.00 an hour to work in fast food restaurant kitchens is also going to encourage and invite more mass uncontrolled illegal immigration.

It takes very little to automate the production of burgers and fries. It will also make it a much more
consistent product. You'll only need to hire a manager to clean the fryer at the end of the night and may a security guard in the problem areas.

Here in Ohio, a medium order of fries at McDonald's is already over $3. That's one of the reasons I rarely eat fast food anymore.

When the restaurants are shutting down they will be getting zero hours, but the good new is they raised their pay to $1000/day.

I used to eat lunch at various fast restaurants every day. KFC, The Bell, McD, Subs, Fish n Chips, Soul food, Chinese, Thai, TexMex, Italian, something different every day. Now, since the minimum wage laws passed, the prices are too high and the quality has degraded to the point that I don't eat out any more. I make good money and I still don't want to spend it on $15.00 sandwiches. At least there are no lines any more when I do go to places at lunch time.

aha!!! there's the skunk in the woodpile: "Unions representing health care workers, fast food workers and other industries ... "
and the question that follows is: who will buy said "fast food" when the price of a hamburger is $20.00, French Fries $10.00 and a Coke $8.00

Outcome: No one will stop at any of these places because you'll have to take out a loan to do so.

Many fast food restaurants are struggling due to their reduced quality of service, quality and size of meals and already inflated prices. Increasing their costs will be another nail in the coffin.

$20.00 per hour for an entry level job? The price of your In & Out Burger is going through the roof. Guess some more businesses will be exiting Cali.

Bots will sooner than later produce the fast food menus, better, cleaner and faster and perhaps with a smidgen of nutrition; and all without greasy curls and nasty long painted fingernails amid playful chatter. What a pity.

I'm so annoyed by the incessant requests to provide tips when the green haired, neck tattooed, lip- and nose-pierced creature behind the register hasn't even made eye contact or uttered a complete sentence in my direction. This is true for fast food, Starbucks, and many restaurants. No, I'm not going to give you a tip of 20% just because you correctly pressed a few buttons on the digital screen in front of you.

As others have said on this site, prices of Fast Food will get much higher. That is a good thing. People will start cooking at home and hopefully put healthier food into their bodies.

Where McDonald's used to have 20 employees, 6 robots can now do all of their jobs 24/7/365.
So we now go from 20 employees making $13 an hour to 0 employees. The former employees will all be on welfare plantation, which is exactly what the lie-beral Commie lawmakers of Cuba-fornication truly want!!!
None of this is by accident!!!
