Florida governor Ron DeSantis derides the “swamp” in Washington, D.C., and takes shots at the GOP establishment in his new book, The Courage to Be Free: Florida’s Blueprint for America’s Revival.
DeSantis writes of deciding to make his third term in Congress his last: “I was especially frustrated with all the missed opportunities of the Republican Congress after Donald Trump became president.” National Review obtained a copy of the book ahead of its February 28 release.
“Here we had a unified Republican government for the first time in more than a decade, and yet so much of the time was frittered away on matters like the conspiracy theory that Donald Trump’s campaign

The Biden administration remains supportive of gain-of-function research despite the potential risks as long as that research is pursued in a safe and transparent manner, national security council communications coordinator John Kirby explained on Monday.
The controversial practice involves making pathogens more deadly or transmissible in order to better understand current or future pandemics, and thus be able to respond faster. Funding for the research was halted in 2014 during the Obama administration due to concerns about the risks: If modified pathogens escape the laboratory setting, they can cause pandemics.

A campaign to have rural eastern Oregon effectively secede from the blue state and join more conservative Idaho is gaining steam as leaders from both states express support for relocating the border between them. Former Oregon House Speaker Mark Simmons penned an op-ed in the Idaho Statesman, a daily newspaper, over the weekend to explain why he supports the so-called Greater Idaho movement, which seeks to incorporate about 13 Oregon counties, or 63% of the state's landmass and 9% of its population, within Idaho's borders.
"Idaho would have the satisfaction of freeing rural, conservative communities from progressive blue-state law," wrote Simmons.

It’s going to be a dreary day tomorrow, in Belvidere, Illinois. The big, old automotive plant there, that had been running for sixty years and had been the sole home of the Jeep Cherokee since 2017, will see its last shift change.
…Sources said Belvidere was lined up to transition to an electric vehicle plant, specifically the new STLA large EV platform for the next generation Charger and Challenger. Instead, Stellantis announced in June the vehicles will be built in Windsor, Ontario, dashing the hopes of Belvidere boosters and dealing a major blow to the state’s EV manufacturing ambitions.
Stellantis is also building a $5 billion battery plant in Windsor.

In a campaign video released Monday, Trump first blasted President Joe Biden, stating that despite his claims to be pro-American manufacturing, he is “pushing the same pro-China globalist agenda that ripped the industrial heart out of our country.”

Diversity, equity and inclusion leaders, who were hired in waves to help companies achieve an ethnically balanced workforce after George Floyd’s murder in 2020, are being phased out, surveys indicate, leaving experts in the field concerned that corporations’ talk of affecting change was just empty words.
DEI roles increased by 55% following demands for broader racial equity and justice after Floyd’s murder, the Society for Human Resource Management reported in 2020. But instead of creating fair opportunities and a comfortable work culture for Black employees, a pair of recent reports indicate, DEI professionals are losing their jobs, as layoffs across the economy have gained momentum.

That would be a great thing, except that she is coming back.
The only reason I can imagine she would go is that, as Treasury Secretary, she wants to visit with all that US treasure we sent over there. What other reason could there be?
Yes, it’s true. I am writing this post for the sole reason of making that lame dad joke. What can I say? I am of a certain age, and we do that.
Seriously, though: why on Earth is Janet Yellen in Ukraine? The President just visited the other day, and I cannot imagine a good reason why Yellen or any US cabinet secretary

“If we got into a major war with China, the United States homeland would be at risk as well with both kinetic attacks and non-kinetic attacks — whether it's cyberattacks on the power grid or on pipelines,” Army Secretary Christine Wormuth said Monday at the American Enterprise Institute. “They are going to go after the will of the United States public. Social media is awash right now with wild rumors about the condition of Pennsylvania Senator John Fetterman, who has been hospitalized for depression—a hospitalization that will apparently last a month or longer. We should await some facts or other kinds of confirmation before drawing conclusions about nefarious political calculations, but it is confirmed that his wife and children have fled the country to “avoid media attention.” I don’t know much about treating what appears to be severe depression (a month in the hospital?), but common sense would suggest the presence of wife and family is instrumental for treatment and recovery. No wonder there are rumors spreading.

For months, political observers and strategists have been keeping their eyes and ears wide open, hoping to find out two big things about the 2024 Senate race in West Virginia.
The first and biggest question they have: Will Democrat Sen. Joe Manchin run for reelection?
The second most important question: Is Republican Gov. Jim Justice, a supposed political ally of Manchin’s, going to throw his hat into the ring in a potential challenge to Manchin should he go for another term?
Both Manchin and Justice have been extremely cagey about the issue, with Justice recently indicating he’d have an answer to the question after March 11,

“President Biden remains a healthy, vigorous 80-year-old male, who is fit to successfully execute the duties of the Presidency, to include those as Chief Executive, Head of State and Commander in Chief,” White House Physician Kevin O’Connor claimed. Well, Sky News Australia host Rita Panahi found O’Connor’s assessment so absurd she couldn’t contain her laughter as she contrasted O’Connor’s finding with clips of Biden’s verbal stumbles, gaffes, and other embarrassing hits. It’s nice to know this is how Biden is perceived by other countries.

The Biden regime’s support for socialists throughout Latin America is aiding China’s efforts to dominate the region. We must recognize and counter the Chinese Communist Party’s (CCP) imperialist ambitions or lose our liberty. We cannot do so with an antiliberty regime in the White House that hates America and all it stands for.
We must survive the next two years with Biden in the executive and recover our government from those whose goal is to transform the federal government into a dictatorship. One step in this direction, which has begun, is congressional Republicans investigating the Biden regime and informing the public of the truth.

Military historian and Hillsdale College professor Mark Moyar has just published Triumph Regained: The Vietnam War, 1965-1968, which is the second in what will become a massive three-volume revision of the entire Vietnam War. It is a book that should be widely read, much discussed, and reviewed in depth regardless of one’s view of that sad chapter in American diplomacy and conflict in Vietnam. The first book, Triumph Forsaken: The Vietnam War, 1954-1965 appeared in 2006. It gained considerable attention for its heterodox analysis of the postwar origins of communist aggression against the South, beginning with the disastrous French colonial experience and its transference to the Americans.

♦Approximately 75% of the Big Con “INFLUENCERS” (Big $) and punditry Support Ron DeSantis
♦Approximately 25% of the Small “Influencers” (Small $) and Indy punditry Support Donald Trump.
Meanwhile, amid the voting base the inverse is true:
♦Approximately 25% of the conservative, working-class, base voters support Ron DeSantis
♦Approximately 75% of the conservative, working-class, base voters support Donald Trump

Natural immunity to disease is, or at least was, a well-known concept in medicine.
By disease, I mean viral infections. One can’t develop natural immunity to diseases like diabetes or heart failure. Many of us remember “chicken pox parties” where when one kid was infectious, he or she was invited over to play with your kids, so they all got infected and then they did not have to worry about getting chicken pox again, due to natural immunity.
The CDC defines it as follows: “Natural immunity is acquired from exposure to the disease organism through infection with the actual disease.”

The new MLS season is off to a bright start with attendances through the roof on opening day, with some stadiums experiencing a better turnout than several NFL venues on average.
On Saturday, Charlotte FC had 69,345 fans at its home opener in a 1-0 loss against the New England Revolution, while Atlanta United's dramatic 2-1 win against the San Jose Earthquakes wasn't far behind with 67,538 supporters watching from the stands of Mercedes-Benz Stadium.
That's close to the NFL's per game attendance of 69,442 last year and it's the first time that MLS has had multiple 65,000+ games on the same day,

Donald Trump is calling for Mark Zuckerberg to be prosecuted amid revelations a group linked to him gave $2 million to the Georgia elections board.
The former president laid out the allegations against the Meta CEO on his Truth Social platform on Sunday while sharing an article about the controversial donation.
'He [Zuckerberg] cheated on the Election(s). The whole system is RIGGED. Why isn't he being prosecuted? The Democrats only know how to cheat. America isn't going to take it much longer!' he wrote.

Muhammad was the most popular baby name in Galway, Ireland’s fourth-largest city, last year, the country’s government has confirmed.
A report released by Ireland’s Central Statistics Office (CSO) on Friday has revealed that “Muhammad” has risen to become the most popular name for newborn babies in one of the country’s major cities.
The statistic sees Ireland join the likes of France, England, Sweden, and many other European countries, which have all seen the popularity of the name surge amid record immigration from Islamic countries over the last two-to-three decades. It now appears that Ireland is on the same path as its European neighbours as it pursues mass migration policies,

Tomorrow the Supreme Court will hear oral arguments in a pair of challenges to the Biden administration’s plan to cancel up to $20,000 in federally held student debt for borrowers making less than $125,000 (or $250,000 for a household). There’s a lot at stake in Biden v. Nebraska and Department of Education v. Brown, not the least of which is the $430 billion estimated cost of the program. The case involves important constitutional questions, like whether the president may “interpret” an old law to achieve a far-reaching policy goal.
It’s a legal reckoning that the Biden administration worked hard to avoid.

Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass called to remove "obstacles" for new police recruits and pledged to root out officers with ties to "right-wing domestic extremist organizations." (Snip) "We think that particular provision or that goal or that idea is dangerous," Tom Saggau, Los Angeles Police Protective League (LAPPL) spokesperson, told Fox News Digital.

U.S. Rep. Dale Strong (R-Huntsville) joined other Republican members of the U.S. House of Representatives Homeland Security Committee on a trip to El Paso, Texas, last week to witness the ongoing border crisis firsthand...
"We just left the port of entry. We weren't there five minutes, and here comes a car loaded with fentanyl and heroin," Strong said in a self-recorded video on his Twitter page. "It's worse than you can imagine."

The irresistible force is mail-in ballots, nonexistent signature verification, phantom voter rolls, a feckless Republican Party, Republican governors donating tax money to a George Soros–funded entity to clean voter rolls — election commissions changing ZIP codes so mail-in ballots stack up — courts refusing to remove dead people from voter rolls unless they miss two consecutive elections, and a Republican presidential candidate who thinks he can win with ballot-harvesting.

I guess all that “culture” (human feces and heroin needles) and “excitement” (rampant crime) of life in a big city is getting a little old for Michael Moritz, a partner at Sequoia Capital. But, don’t you smug conservatives get any ideas, these blights aren’t a byproduct of Democrat ideas — San Francisco is merely “held hostage” by “political classes.”
In an essay published by The New York Times today, Moritz acknowledged the city was indeed “crippled” by “homeless encampments” and “drug addicts” before he blamed conservatives for rubbing Democrat noses in the mess. Moritz opened his piece with this:

Former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice warned on Sunday that potential 2024 GOP presidential contenders who have called for the U.S. to pull back its support for Ukraine in its war with Russia should be careful with their words.
During an appearance on CBS’s “Face The Nation,” moderator Margaret Brennan asked Rice about recent remarks from former President Trump and Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) criticizing the U.S. for its robust support for Kyiv.

Tens of thousands of people filled Mexico City’s vast main plaza Sunday to protest President Andrés Manuel López Obrador’s electoral law changes they say threaten democracy and could mark a return to the past.
The plaza is normally thought to hold nearly 100,000 people, but many protesters who couldn’t fit in the square spilled onto nearby streets. The marchers were clad mostly in white and pink — the color of the National Electoral Institute — and shouted slogans like “Don’t Touch my Vote!” Like a similar but somewhat larger march on Nov. 13, the marchers appeared somewhat more affluent than those at the average demonstration.

If you’re wondering who Republican voters want to see square off in next year’s presidential primaries, it’s probably no big secret. As the latest polling data from I&I/TIPP show, a solid majority of registered GOP voters and independents who lean Republican, or Republican primary voters, say they want to see former President Donald Trump and current Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis duke it out on the primary trail.
In the latest poll, taken of 1,155 registered voters from Feb. 1-3, 397 were identified as GOP primary voters. They were asked to respond to the following statement: “I would like to see a primary contest between Donald Trump and Ron DeSantis.”

For two years, the Democrats have insisted that, on Jan. 6, 2021, the republic was shaken to its foundations by an “insurrection” mounted by wild-eyed MAGA extremists. They attempted to reinforce this claim with a series of hyper-partisan hearings, complete with video edited for dramatic effect by a professional television producer. This left most of the footage captured by Capitol surveillance cameras on the cutting room floor, and the Democrats refused to release any of the unused video to the public. Thus, after the midterms, Kevin McCarthy pledged to make it public if elected speaker of the House. He kept his word, and the Democrats are clearly alarmed.

The number of potential buyers for the Washington Commanders is continuing to build.
Houston Rockets owner Tilman Fertitta put in a bid of about $5.5 billion in an attempt to secure the Commanders, according to the Washington Post. Dan Snyder, the embattled owner of the Commanders since 1999, is looking for about $6 billion, which puts Feritta’s bid under the asking price to buy the NFL franchise. Fertitta, who bought the Rockets back in 2017, visited the Commanders’ facility earlier this month, and despite the bid, is not seen as the frontrunner to purchase the team, per the Washington Post.
