Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass called to remove "obstacles" for new police recruits and pledged to root out officers with ties to "right-wing domestic extremist organizations." Bass is looking to remove "obstacles" for police recruits who fail to initially qualify for training as a means of further diversifying the LAPD, according to a summary of her public safety goals obtained by Fox News Digital – but police union leaders are questioning the move. (Snip) "We think that particular provision or that goal or that idea is dangerous," Tom Saggau, Los Angeles Police Protective League (LAPPL) spokesperson, told Fox News Digital.

Comments:

Bass complains that some ethnic groups are disproportionately left out due to the standards.

OK, I'll admit it -- I left LA about 18 months ago because I thought I saw the writing on the wall. How could I miss it, it was writ LARGE. Went back once to make sure I had been right, very depressing. Everything looked worn and used up, The beautiful California is gone and I didn't want to have to leave. Had to. Now this, with the cops.

"One provision says a deputy mayor will work in conjunction with a "third party" to "evaluate the personnel process and identify obstacles to entry for recruits who fail to qualify for training." Now why would someone fail to qualify as a police recruit unless THEY DON'T QUALIFY? Otherwise, there are millions of potential candidates streaming over the southern border. Pay them cash under the table.

What the LA mayor is angling for is to seriously up the minority population within the LAPD by hiring unqualified police officers. The result of that is bound to be situations like occurred in Memphis recently where five minority police officers killed a minority driver who they contacted through a traffic stop.

#6 - We beat you out and left in 1999. We saw the writing on the wall after the Rodney King riot, and bought the homestead in '93. It still saddens me to see my beautiful home town become a cess pool of communism. The slow dismantling of the once iconic Los Angeles Police Department is particularly disheartening. My father joined as a WWII vet in 1947 under the great reformer Chief Parker, and served 27 years until 1974. TK served 20 years from 1969-89. I also served as a civilian record clerk on morning watch Central Division Records from 1974-78. That is where I met TK - one of hundreds of PD romances. In the 1960's the LAPD was known as the best police department in the world and other departments came to learn its standards and practices. In the early 1970's it became the first department to come under a court order "consent decree" that curtailed what officers could do during an arrest. It was the first of dozens. It has been downhill since then. It was that "consent decree" that made my Dad pull the pin at 27 years instead of going for the full 30. He saw the "writing on the wall" back then.

What a brilliant and original idea! How many of us visualized having black cops holding the door open for shoplifters to they could carry their load in both hands? I think LA should hire either Lori Lightfoot or Eric Adams who are experts at implementation of identical programs. I hear that Lightfoot will be available soon. If these people lower the bar any more they will be hiring stray dogs and pigeons very soon.

Yeah, wild eyed extremists.....like people who believe in arresting violent criminals and putting them in prison. Or people who would stop a violent criminal from harming someone by using force, even deadly force if needed. Can't have anyone interfering with violent crime. Those criminals are critical Dem constituents, gotta support their "chosen lifestyle". And sane people will move away.

With all due respect to Walgreens CFO James Kehoe, inventory shrinkage mostly at the hands of organized retail crime is still worth crying over if you are a retailer. Take Target (TGT), for example. Fiddelke said the profit impact amounted to "hundreds of millions of dollars of headwind." The issue is likely to challenge Target's bottom line in 2023, he

A measure the Federal Reserve watches closely to gauge inflation rose more than expected in January, indicating the central bank has more work to do to bring down prices. The personal consumption expenditures price index excluding food and energy increased 0.6% for the month, and was up 4.7% from a year ago, the Commerce Department reported Friday. Wall Street had been expecting respective readings of 0.5% and 4.4%. The core PCE gains were 0.4% and 4.6% in December. Including the volatile food and energy components, headline inflation increased 0.6% and 5.4% respectively, compared to 0.2% and 5.3% in December.
