Florida governor Ron DeSantis derides the “swamp” in Washington, D.C., and takes shots at the GOP establishment in his new book, The Courage to Be Free: Florida’s Blueprint for America’s Revival.
DeSantis writes of deciding to make his third term in Congress his last: “I was especially frustrated with all the missed opportunities of the Republican Congress after Donald Trump became president.” National Review obtained a copy of the book ahead of its February 28 release.
“Here we had a unified Republican government for the first time in more than a decade, and yet so much of the time was frittered away on matters like the conspiracy theory that Donald Trump’s campaign

Keep getting mixed signals about DeSantis. Is he really against the swamp, or is that a pose and he's secretly a part of it? The Bush endorsement makes me suspect it's the later, but he's done some decent things as Governor.

Yea. National Review thinks he’s pretty. Decades ago, that meant something.

I watched the hour long interview with Mark Levin and came away very favorably impressed. He talked about how he got through Yale and Harvard Law as a conservative, so he has been on the "right" side for his entire life. His results in Florida both politically and electorally are also unmatched.

National Review is a rag. This is a hit piece on Trump masquerading as a positive article on DeSantis, National Review is a major never-Trump mouth piece.

The Republicans who voted with Democrats meant Trump was more or less alone in the White house.

Ron DeSantis is like Trump but without the feisty Bronx baggage. He's not establishment. Trump was the first non-moderate Republican to get the nomination since Ronald Reagan . Robert Dole, the Bushes, McCain, and Romney were all establishment, not true conservatives. I'm okay with DeSantis getting the nomination.

Missed opportunities? Trump was an outsider and those Republicans in charge of the Congress and Senate were hell bent on stopping Trump from achieving much of what he wanted to do. They fought Trump every step of the way. Probably because of the phony Russia thing and they didn't want to have their reputations soiled by that. That Trump achieved as much as he did is a true miracle.

#7, I respectfully disagree. We all know the Governor’s policies are good ones, however, if you want the big job you have to be prepared for the big questions. He’s going to have to convince me he can do a better job with the economy. Don’t forget Trump knew most of these corporate titans on a first name basis. He knew how they worked and he pulled no punches with them. Also, DeSantis is going to have to prove he can do better than Trump on foreign policy. He had the moxie to confront NATO for slacking off payment to us. He confronted China and had them on the ropes. He had a face to face meeting and stepped into North Korea with Kim Jong Un which no one expected. We forget just how much President Trump actually accomplished durning his term but instead camp out on every mean tweet, or on his brash rhetoric. Now which one is more important when it comes right down to it? Biden with his braggadocio attitude and smart mouth has us on the verge of WWIII, something President Trump did everything in his power to avoid and was successful in that also.
DeSantis most likely would have not been elected were it not for Trump’s support which brings me to this. Character matters. It matters to me and I am sure to the people of Florida that he keep his word and finish out his full term. He promised to do that, and I can understand that. The lure of the highest office in the land is very persuasive. However, doing it with the support of the very people who have fought tooth and nail against the best interests of the American people, I just cannot overlook. Show me your friends and I will know who you are. Like the vast majority of Americans I am sick of the Bushes, Cheney’s, Romney, Karl Rove and his cabal of like minded Republican strategists, the Club for Growth, and Chamber of Commerce whose only loyalty is to whatever makes them wealthy. They left consideration for this country decades ago to pursue their self-interests. So, I am very leery of DeSantis because of his supporters. He could have actually steered clear of these people because of their reputation for undermining the best interest of this country, but he decided to align with them. Once you do that, you are forever ensnared in their controlling web. He is either unbelievably naive or his ego has gotten the best of him. Sadly, he doesn’t understand that the popularity he is enjoying now would cease in a heartbeat if they thought he actually expected to bring all his conservative policies to Washington. They lost control with Trump and they never intend to let that happen again. DeSantis will conform. Take that to the bank.
Remember Trump was an outsider. He had to build his support from the ground up. His commitment to that was unheard of. He had to work hard at it and he did. He proceeded to create a political movement without the help of the donor class and the political strategists. He did it all through the support of the American people. He convinced them there was a better way and he had the strategy to make it happen, and he did. He was the most successful President in modern history, the stats prove it. Why choose someone else when the real deal is right in front of your eyes? I just can’t understand it. Don’t give me it’s his personality. Daily he was attacked viciously by democrats and the media with very little to no support from the Republican ruling class. Had the Republican Party stood behind him, Joe Biden would not have had a chance and the country would not look like a dystopian nightmare. It wasn’t Trump that gave us Joe Biden, it was the Republican ruling class and their advocates that stole our peace, prosperity and liberty from us for failing to support the choice of we the people.

"Show me your Friends and I will know who You are". Well, #10, Governor DeSantis won his recent election by nearly 20/% of the Vote. It was the most in the History of Florida Votes! Those are his Friends (include me in that category). None of the Bushes or any other Deep State people voted for him! The folks who live here and watch him every day are his Friends and we think he is a Stand Up Guy! He has done wonders for our State. I don't think people who do not live here should try to make him into someone he is not (that would be a "Bushie"). Good grief! If he is not what we in Florida say he is, and he runs for President against Trump, he will lose! Do not make the mistake of trying to tear him down because he just could be the Nominee and then you have handed the Democrats all the Ammo they need to give us four more years of Biden!
