It’s going to be a dreary day tomorrow, in Belvidere, Illinois. The big, old automotive plant there, that had been running for sixty years and had been the sole home of the Jeep Cherokee since 2017, will see its last shift change.
…Sources said Belvidere was lined up to transition to an electric vehicle plant, specifically the new STLA large EV platform for the next generation Charger and Challenger. Instead, Stellantis announced in June the vehicles will be built in Windsor, Ontario, dashing the hopes of Belvidere boosters and dealing a major blow to the state’s EV manufacturing ambitions.
Stellantis is also building a $5 billion battery plant in Windsor.

Are they taking their EV plant to Canada so euthanizing it later will be a simpler process?

How can unemployment be at historic lows with all these layoffs and store closings? I think not only did the installed president poopy-pants rig the election, he's rigging the employment stats.

Remind me to sell any stock I have in auto manufacturers who are going all in on ev production. I have already dumped all I had in the companies bragging about their social justice activism and diversity.

Didn't Biden give Stellantis a bunch of taxpayer dough a couple years ago?

With Biden leadership, all production will be somewhere else. We will own or produce nothing, and Americans are not going to like it.

Maybe if Chrysler made a better product than the crap they produce now they wouldn't have to move because of low sales. EV's are not the answer. It will be a giant flop, especially with Chrysler. Gas is king and always will be.

The Chinese - the world's supplier of processed Lithium - just announced a 10% cut in output.
In order to build these EV's the output must at least triple.
There will not be enough Lithium, nickel, cobalt, aluminum, molybdenum or chromium to build all these EV's. On average, EV's require 400% more metal than ICEVs. And ICEVs can use mostly recycled steel.

There is some real business genius at work here. Stop making overpriced, under-performing ICE Jeeps and switch your efforts to even more overpriced and under-performing EV Jeeps. I'm going to rush right out and buy some stock because I love losing money. I'll give it two years before the government subsidies run out and the big battery shortage stops it completely.

Have a couple of friends in Belvidere, I think one of them actually moved back there.
Sorry for the good working people of that fine town. But with the anti-business, pro-crime outlook of the Democrat masters of Illinois, starting with the Governor, King Louie Prtizker the XVI and Mayor Beetlejuice over in Chicago, the state is doomed.
The state of my birth, Wisconsin, would do well to construct a border wall on its southern border. Oh yeah, and Da Bears still stink.

I see even fewer Jeep sales in the future. Nothing beats driving your electric Jeep out into the wilderness and running out of power. Maybe they can plug it into the nearest tree. Those off-road trails are going to require those electric vehicles to use more power as well. I'm looking forward to the Jeep commercials showing those electric Jeeps climbing hills and going over rough terrain. Not to mention plowing through two feet of snow at fifty miles an hour.

The auto companies are going to discover in short order, if they haven’t already, that there is no money in EV. These pie in the sky proposals to eliminate gasoline and diesel vehicles from the road are a fantasy and the government knows it. They’re pandering to the climate change cult. In the meantime, vehicle manufacturing is a profit driven business. ‘Nuff said.

A Jeep prides itself on the off road capabilities. Imagine going to those places shown in commercials using the four wheel drive mode in low range. Super energy intensive use. The battery will have less than half of the advertised mileage available and if cold weather even less.
There you are, 50 miles from the nearest plug in recharger. You call your AAA operator and hear a hearty laugh when you describe your situation Your estimated wait time is measured in weeks.
Or you could have strapped on two 10 gallon gas cans and made the same trip in an ICV and be back in time for the Late Show on TV.

Here's the proof that EVs have limitations.
A friend of mine has a Tesla. Tesla offers at-your-home service. The service vehicle is fuel-powered, not electric.

Belvidere should realize that an EV plant would soon close due to customer disinterest. They can get to work now finding something productive for that facility to build, and be ahead of the game
