It is the year of the octogenarian. American TV viewers can find Patrick Stewart, 82, boldly going in a new series of Star Trek: Picard and 80-year-old Harrison Ford starring in two shows plus a trailer for the fifth installment of Indiana Jones.
And a switch to the news is likely to serve up Joe Biden, at 80 the oldest president in US history, or Mitch McConnell, the Republican leader in the Senate, who turns 81 on Monday. But while action heroes are evergreen, the political class is facing demands for generational change.

There are now new reports of a large white balloon spotted about 594 miles northeast of Honolulu, Hawaii.
The Oakland Oceanic Air Traffic Control was reporting sightings of the balloon, with multiple commercial pilots saying they’d seen it. Reports were that it was flying at an altitude of 40,000 to 50,000 feet.
Pilots were advised to report if they saw the object. It’s not clear whether it already breached American airspace. There are all kinds of military installations in Hawaii, so obviously that would be a big target for spying by China if that is what is going on here.
This would be spitting in the eye of Joe Biden

Austin police are investigating what they called “street racing incidents.” The incidents involved crowds taking over major intersections as drivers participated in “drifting” demonstrations. When police arrived, the crowd attacked the vehicles with fireworks, rocks, and other objects.
Multiple videos show the chaos that erupted in a major intersection in downtown Austin on Saturday night. Some of the videos show the crowds turning on police as they arrived to clear the streets. Police say people in the crowd threw rocks and fireworks at patrol vehicles damaging at least two. In one video, fireworks appear to be fired at one of the police cars.

The US ambassador to the United Nations said Sunday that China would cross a "red line" if the country decided to provide lethal military aid to Russia for its invasion of Ukraine.
"We welcome the Chinese announcement that they want peace because that's what we always want to pursue in situations like this. But we also have to be clear that if there are any thoughts and efforts by the Chinese and others to provide lethal support to the Russians in their brutal attack against Ukraine, that that is unacceptable," Ambassador Linda Thomas-Greenfield told CNN's Pamela Brown on "State of the Union."
"That would be a red line," she said.

Note how YouTube finds it necessary to push a totally ignorant fantasy that climate change is “mainly caused by human activities, especially the burning of fossil fuels”.

It’s amazing how many violent male criminals, especially those in prison for rape, discover that they are, in fact, “transgender women.” Suitably woke jurisdictions then hasten to transfer these same “women” to women’s prisons. That’s invariably followed by reports of women finding themselves terrorized in those same prisons.
2023 has offered two stunning headlines about the issue of violent men finding ways to get into women’s prisons. The first headline is that Nicola Sturgeon, Scotland’s very powerful, very woke National Party leader and first minister,

Last year, the Biden administration caved to public outcry and disbanded its infamous Disinformation Governance Board under its “Disinformation Nanny,” Nina Jankowicz. Yet, as explored in a recent hearing (in which I testified), the Biden administration never told the public about a far larger censorship effort involving an estimated 80 FBI agents secretly targeting citizens and groups for disinformation.
Now it appears that the administration also was partially funding an “index” to warn advertisers to avoid what the index deemed to be dangerous disinformation sites. It turns out that all ten of the “riskiest” sites identified by the Global Disinformation Index are popular with conservatives, libertarians and independents.

Team Joe cites the latest numbers from Customs and Border Protection as proof it’s finally getting a handle on things, because January featured fewer illegal crossers than December. Problem is, January is almost always the low for the year (because of weather).
In fact, the January 2023 total of 156,274 migrant encounters — is worse than last year’s January total and the highest January in 22 years.

More than 150 people who have confirmed or alleged links to Epstein, such as being his employee or one of his alleged victims, chose not to come forward to object to the disclosure of their names. They are mentioned in documents filed in a defamation case brought in 2015 against Ghislaine Maxwell, an Epstein associate.

The average person can’t describe the daily responsibilities of the secretary of transportation or even name the figure who holds that position — until our transportation infrastructure fails, that is. As far as cushy political appointments go, it’s on the thankless end of the spectrum.
At least that was the case before Pete Buttigieg ascended to the role in 2021. Now the secretary of transportation is both a political celebrity and someone immune to meaningful criticism over our country’s transportation failures — and there have been many.Though the left rarely misses an opportunity to announce that “the adults are back in charge,” Buttigieg’s failures suggest otherwise.

On February 3, a 141-car Norfolk Southern train derailed in the eastern Ohio town of East Palestine. About 50 of the rail cars were damaged, including five tank cars carrying toxic and carcinogenic vinyl chloride. Safety crews vented and burned the vinyl chloride. The town was ordered evacuated, ‘Leave Now’: Hundreds of Residents Near Site of East Palestine, Ohio Train Derailment Ordered to Evacuate. To call the official response tepid would give it too much credit. The Biden White House has essentially ignored the issue.

House Judiciary Committee Chairman Rep. Jim Jordan’s (R-Ohio) investigations are far from the show trials witnessed under Democratic control as an insider teased at “thoughtful legislation” on the horizon.
Well before the 118th Congress had commenced, Republicans had promised accountability would be their mandate with a majority in the lower chamber. Since wresting control from their progressive counterparts, the Jordan-led Judiciary Committee, in addition to others like the House Oversight and Accountability Committee, have already set forth to fulfill the promise to expose abuses of power committed by the FBI and DOJ, collusion and censorship against conservatives at the hands of Big Tech, and dereliction of duty that has only worsened

In 2015, then-Wisconsin GOP Gov. Scott Walker was seen as one of the party's strongest prospects to win back the White House, as he had become a star among conservatives over his moves to curb the powers of public-sector unions.
Headed into the 2016 presidential election, many expected Walker to dominate the Republican primaries and earn the party's nomination to face former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.
But then Donald Trump happened.

History shows that leftists always end up eating their own, as they continually jockey for the top rung on their political ladder. This week’s target is the odious Congressman Adam Schiff. He has been a congressman for 22 years and this year has decided to run for the seat being vacated by Senator Dianne Feinstein, whose staff, apparently without her prior knowledge, has announced she will not run again in 2024.
He is a consummate liar and misused his perch as the ranking member of the House Intelligence Committee to spread disinformation which could not until

In 1912, former Georgia congressman and onetime vice presidential candidate Tom Watson published The Roman Catholic Hierarchy, a reprise of his voluminous anti-Catholic polemics and speeches. To him, Catholics constituted an alien and immoral subversive force bent on turning America into a vassal state of the Vatican. Quoth Watson, “We have heard the potentates of this faith in America confess that, on an issue between our Government and the Pope, they would adhere to Papa.”
Based in no small part on the popularity of his virulent anti-Catholicism, Watson was elected to the U.S. Senate.

For communists, such as Nicaragua's "little dictator," Daniel Ortega, there's nothing like having a yanqui imperialista friend up in el norte to help out with the old consolidation of power.
Which brings us to Joe Biden, whose open borders and lax asylum laws provided just that perfect window of opportunity for the thug running the battered Central American country to get his nation's bothersome protestors out of his hair.
According to the New York Times:
The government of Nicaragua has stripped more than 300 political opponents of their citizenship over the past week, in another sign that the country’s authoritarian president has no intention of easing his grip at home despite a deal,

Under attack by transgender radicals from inside and outside the paper, top editors of The New York Times face a problem so difficult, I feel sorry for them. Well, almost.
The hesitation is warranted because the editors have only themselves to blame. After abandoning standards of fairness to push a crazy woke agenda, they are suddenly discovering that appeasing the far left is impossible.
The crash course in common sense comes with the lesson that the more you give the radicals, the more they want. And they don’t ask, they demand and make threats.

If you follow politics, there are probably two people you can’t picture in a room together—California governor Gavin Newsom and former Fox News analyst, and current fiancée to Donald Trump Jr., Kimberly Guilfoyle.
Yet, they were once married: (Tweet) He, the hyper liberal, exquisitely-coiffed smooth talker and she, the brash, heavily made-up TV personality, somehow stayed in matrimonial bliss from 2001 to 2006.
Now, however, they’re going back and forth on the public airwaves, and it got nasty lickety-split, with each accusing the other of changing who they really are.
Guilfoyle was adamant that she’d always been a conservative,

The 1950s “Nation of Immigrants” narrative is more important than Congress’s laws, according to Alexandro Mayorkas, who is President Joe Biden’s pro-migration border chief.
“Our goal is to achieve operational control of the border, to do everything that we can to support our personnel with the resources, the technology, the policies that really advance the security of the border, and do not come at the cost of the values of our country,” Mayorkas said in an interview with CNN’s Chris Wallace, on the cable TV show, Who’s Talking to Chris Wallace.”

Chicago mayor Lori Lightfoot urged black voters to help her 'keep the seat' from falling to white or Hispanic challengers, despite an appalling spike in crime.
As Lightfoot seeks a second term in the upcoming February 28 election, some business leaders concerned about the continuing crime wave say they don't think she is up to the task.
In rallies on Saturday, Lightfoot told the South and West side residents who don't support her to not bother voting at all. Chicago's South Side is a historically-black area.
'Any vote coming from the South Side for somebody not named Lightfoot is a vote for Chuy Garcia or Paul Vallas,' Lightfoot said.

Munich — Cut through the haze of hoary proclamations emanating from the main stage of the Munich Security Conference about Western solidarity and common purpose this weekend, and one can’t help but notice more than a hint of foreboding just beneath the surface.
Even as Western leaders congratulate themselves for their generosity toward Ukraine, the country’s armed forces are running low on ammunition, equipment and even men. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, who opened the conference from Kyiv on Friday, urged the free world to send more help — and fast. “We need speed,” he said.

Kathy Hochul’s dangerous and Orwellian “Hateful Conduct Law” suffered a major defeat, being struck down in the Southern District of New York by Judge Andrew L. Carter. That came after Rumble and a blogger teamed up to challenge the law in court.
The law, which Hochul originally signed in the summer of 2022, would have forced social media companies to “report” hateful conduct to the state (in this case, New York) and also have policies in place to censor such speech.
According to Judge Carter (Breitbart), that was a no-go given the protections afforded by the First Amendment.
“The Hateful Conduct Law both compels social media networks to speak about the contours
