In Sacramento, there’s a word that keeps popping up during discussions about the state’s homelessness crisis: “accountability.” Gov. Gavin Newsom has scolded cities and counties for failing to get more people off the street, hundreds of millions in state spending notwithstanding. “Californians demand accountability and results, not settling for the status quo,” the governor said last November. (Snip) The increasingly bipartisan chorus points to two stark, seemingly contradictory trends: The state keeps spending more to address the crisis, and the crisis keeps getting worse. So where, they ask, is all the money going? On Wednesday, California lawmakers got something that

The office of Rep. Some of the audio recordings mention a segment on “The Five” and then criticize Craig in the wake of the attack in which an assailant grabbed her by the neck and punched her in the face. “I’m listening to your story on ‘The Five,'” one person says in one of the recordings. There are nine Democrats in Chicago vying for the dubious distinction of calling themselves “mayor” of that wretched city. The current mayor, Lori Lightfoot, is locked in a fairly close race with Rep. Jesus “Chuy” Garcia (D-Ill.) and former schools superintendent Paul Vallas.
But, in truth, there’s not a dime’s worth of spit that separates any of them. So the race will hinge on who can lie and exaggerate the best in order to destroy the candidacy of their rivals.
Enter the superhero. Ron DeSantis the Destroyer will visit the Windy City on Monday to address the city’s largest — and very powerful — police union.

A GOP political operative was sentenced to 18 months in prison on Friday for illegally funneling tens of thousands of dollars from a Russian businessman to the Trump campaign in 2016.
Jesse Benton, 45, was convicted in November of six charges related to scheme to connect a Russian businessman with then-GOP presidential candidate Donald Trump. The Russian, millionaire Roman Vasilenko, wanted to take a picture with Trump to post on social media.

According to Precinct 1 Commissioner Rodney Ellis, Houstonians traded in nearly 800 guns at the event.
The event went from 8 a.m. to noon at Deussen Park. People turning in guns will got gift cards ranging from $50 to $200, depending on the type of weapon and whether it still works.
“We don’t ask questions,” Ellis said. “We don’t care if they come from other counties.”

In a Truth Social post on Saturday morning, Trump called the Florida governor 'Ron DeSanctimonious' in the same post that he claimed it would be 'inappropriate' to use the word 'meatball' as a moniker - which has been reported to be a jab at DeSantis' Italian heritage.

John Fetterman is back in the hospital again, this time for multiple weeks as he battles clinical depression (at least, that’s the official narrative). That marks the second time since taking office that the Pennsylvanian senator has been admitted for serious health issues.
The scene is a continuation of the 2022 campaign, in which Fetterman and his handlers did their best to hide the extent of his problems. An MSNBC reporter was famously lambasted for truthfully reporting that he was having trouble understanding people and seemed to be unable to process small talk.

I’ve been noticing lately that the English paragraph seems to be sinking gradually into the world of the minimal like Michael Crichton’s shrunken people in Micro, a practice that hovers between the silly and the technical. This is especially the case with many of the political articles of our day. The once-mighty paragraph that adorned our best writing in history and politics, as well as literature, is getting shorter by the day, often settling into the one-sentence fragment.

Social Security and Medicare are on an “unsustainable course” and will run out of funds by 2037. That’s the conclusion reached by the General Accountability Office (GAO) and the Social Security Administration. There is no saving these programs without massive changes. And demagoguing the issue, as Joe Biden and the Democrats are doing, only delays the day of reckoning. To pretend these programs don’t need intervention now — right now — is to play with dynamite. We now have the most authoritative estimate of the value provided by wearing masks during the pandemic: approximately zero. The most rigorous and extensive review of the scientific literature concludes that neither surgical masks nor N95 masks have been shown to make a difference in reducing the spread of Covid-19 and other respiratory illnesses.
This verdict ought to be the death knell for mask mandates, but that would require the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and the rest of the public-health establishment to forsake “the science”—and unfortunately, these leaders and their acolytes in the media seem as determined as ever to ignore actual science.

Licht lured Lemon from primetime with a heftier deal, placing him with Poppy Harlow and Kaitlan Collins — who quickly rose to stardom at the network covering former President Donald Trump’s administration.

Trump, who announced his candidacy in November, would win 46 percent of the vote, while Biden would gain 41 percent, the survey showed.
The former president would perform even better against Harris, winning 49 percent of support compared to Harris's 39 percent.
The poll was carried out for The Hill on February 15-16 by a team for Harvard CAPS-Harris Poll.
The pollsters spoke to 1,838 registered voters.
