An FBI intelligence analyst testifying in the special counsel probe by John Durham says he never really checked the fake story about the so-called “Steele dossier” in the Trump Russia collusion hoax — including the infamous and non-existent “pee tape” — and assumed FBI sources were telling the truth. This, even though the FBI offered a $1 million payday to verify it (it went uncollected), proving the FBI knew it was “salacious and unverified” in the words of former FBI chief James Comey. But knowing that, the FBI used the dossier against Donald Trump

Joe Biden incorrectly described himself as the father of a man who "lost his life in Iraq" at a speech in Colorado on Wednesday. Biden saluted the bravery of the 10th Mountain Division in battle in Italy, before claiming he lost a son in Iraq. Washington — Since they first started arriving in Ukraine last spring, the Starlink satellite internet terminals made by Elon Musk’s SpaceX have been a vital source of communication for Ukraine’s military, allowing it to fight and stay connected even as cellular phone and internet networks have been destroyed in its war with Russia.
So far roughly 20,000 Starlink satellite units have been donated to Ukraine, with Musk tweeting on Friday the “operation has cost SpaceX $80 million and will exceed $100 million by the end of the year.” But those charitable contributions could be coming to an end, as SpaceX has warned the Pentagon that it may stop funding the service

A pair of well-worn 19th-century Levi’s jeans—featuring a racist slogan—has sold at an auction for $76,000. Kyle Hauper, a 23-year-old vintage clothing collector from San Diego, snapped up the rare jeans dating from the 1880s at the Durango Vintage Festivus auction in New Mexico on Oct. 1. The second-hand jeans—hailed as “the holy grail of vintage denim collecting”—were discovered inside an abandoned mineshaft several years ago and are believed to be one of the oldest known Levi’s from that era. The antique pants are even complete with a vile racist label characteristic of the times.

The U.S. Supreme Court on Thursday denied a request by former President Trump’s legal team to intervene in the legal battle over documents the FBI seized from Mar-a-Lago.
The Court’s Thursday decision came after Trump’s attorneys requested the justices issue an emergency order that would have lifted a ruling made by the 11th Circuit Court of Appeals.
Last month, the 11th Circuit reversed a decision issued by U.S. District Court Judge Aileen Cannon and prohibited special master Raymond Dearie from including documents that were marked classified as part of his review of the seized documents.

The administration also announced that all Venezuelans entering the U.S. illegally would now be returned to Mexico under the Title 42 public health order -- which was implemented during the Trump administration due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Judge was seeking in spring to be in line with Mike Trout’s $36 million annual salary, according to sources, and now the early hints are that the Yankees may accede to his original asking price, and perhaps go even a bit higher. Some suggest he could even threaten Trout’s record $360 million total deal — though if he does,

On that bill, 193 Republicans in the House voted no.
Rep. Flores was the winner of a June special election that flipped a longtime south Texas blue seat to red, and she is seeking to retain her incumbency in the upcoming midterm voting against Gonzalez, who is switching districts.

I have heard it said many times over the years that President Bill Clinton and his inner circle were apprehensive about the rise of the internet right from its infancy. While university clubs and lonely tech pioneers were generating public excitement by connecting people all over the planet, Clinton and his crew feared the internet for what it signified: an end to the government's monopoly over information.
If just any old citizen could broadcast news to the world over cyberspace, none of the government's traditional methods for regulating knowledge would continue to work.

Washington - The House committee investigating the Jan. 6 attack on the Capitol plans to vote to subpoena former President Donald Trump, sources familiar with the committee's plans told NBC News Thursday.
Members of the panel, which held what was expected to be its final hearing before the midterm elections Thursday, had previously said that they were still considering seeking an interview with Trump or former Vice President Mike Pence. A subpoena would come more than a year since the committee began investigating the insurrection and despite multiple members of Congress previously acknowledging that it was unlikely Trump would comply.

Its not about Twitter criticism. The purpose of this article is to warn other reporters that covering Fetterman's health and competency issues will be punished by the tribe. Control of the Senate is in the balance, and Fetterman cannot be allowed to lose.(snip)Even before his stroke rendered him too incapacitated to serve in the Senate, John Fetterman was an unusually flawed candidate, much like the Democrat nominee for president in 2020. There is a reason Democrats chose imbeciles. They are easier to control.

Many rural Oregonians fed up with the state's liberal politics want to move to Idaho — or rather, move Idaho to them.
The Greater Idaho movement proposes redrawing Oregon's borders so that about two-thirds of the Beaver State's land mass becomes part of neighboring Idaho. The movement has already gained support from nine counties in Eastern Oregon, and two more will vote on whether they want lawmakers to work on the logistics of moving the border.
"It makes more sense for Eastern Oregonians to get state-level governance coming from Idaho, where they share their values, share their culture, share their politics, than it does to be governed by Western Oregon,"

NBC News found itself facing accusations of both partisanship and insensitivity this week after reporter Dasha Burns interviewed John Fetterman for his first extended sit-down interview since suffering a stroke earlier this year. (Snip) And Burns was far from the only journalist to share that analysis. CBS’s Ed O’Keefe ponderingly tweeted about whether “Pennsylvanians [will] be comfortable with someone representing them who had to conduct a TV interview this way?" The resulting wave of anger was immediate and two-folded. Burns and NBC (as well as others who shared the opinion) found themselves caught in the middle of two arguments: firstly

The United States has given more than $65 billion in aid to Ukraine since Russia invaded the country in February, and there is no end in sight to taxpayers funding this war. President Biden recently pledged to continue sending aid "for as long as it takes." As a result, the war looks interminable and has brought the world closer to the brink of nuclear "Armageddon" (in Biden's words) than it has been since the Cuban Missile Crisis.
Why, then, are so many lawmakers escalating U.S. involvement in the war by voting to send military aid to Ukraine? Protesters demanded answers

With his business empire, the Trump Organization, in civil and criminal jeopardy in New York, Donald Trump has come up with an apparent solution that has angered state officials: He has formed the Trump Organization II. The new company was registered with the New York Department of State on September 21, public records show — the very day that the state attorney general, Letitia James, filed a 220-page fraud lawsuit against Trump, his family, and the original Trump Organization, the umbrella company for the former president's real-estate and golf-resort holdings.
On Thursday, James' office fought back against the move, filing court papers that ask a Manhattan judge to bar Trump from

A jury has recommended that Nikolas Cruz be sentenced to life in prison without parole in the massacre of 17 people at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida, in 2018.
The 12-person jury’s verdict was read in a packed courtroom Thursday before visibly distraught family members and the shooter, who remained blank-faced throughout.
The jury reached its decision after over a day of deliberations in the trial that kicked off July 18.
The trial was to decide whether to sentence him to life in prison or the death penalty. Prosecutors had sought the death penalty, while the defense had asked for life in prison.

Inflation clocked in worse than expected at 8.2% for the 12 months ending in September, according to the consumer price index, bad news for the country’s economic health.
The much-anticipated numbers reported by the Bureau of Labor Statistics on Thursday revealed that while it ticked down by one-tenth of a percentage point, inflation is still higher than anticipated and defying the Federal Reserve's aggressive interest rate hikes.
Worse, "core inflation," which strips out volatile food and energy prices, rose sharply in September. On an annual basis, it rose to a whopping 6.6%, the highest since 1982.

The GOP lawmakers who backed Donald Trump-driven election challenges that metastasized into violence on Jan. 6, 2021, aren’t taking much campaign-trail heat for it.
Democrats don’t lack for material to slam Republicans as election-denying riot boosters, and in fact many of them deploy that attack while in Washington: A majority of House Republicans voted to oppose certifying 2020 results — a sentiment backed by many of their candidates, too. But given that most GOP objectors occupy comfortably red seats, Democrats are limited on where they can use those certification votes as a successful issue this fall.

The Social Security Administration announced on Thursday that the Cost of Living Adjustment (COLA) for 2023 will be 8.7%, the biggest increase in 40 years.
Seniors will begin seeing the increase in January. The average increase in benefits will be $140, according to SSA. The 8.7% tops the 5.9% increase in 2022. At the time, that raise was the highest in 40 years as well.
It’s not enough. The government announced today a much higher than expected inflation rate for September. Prices rose 0.4% in September from the previous month. Prices climbed 8.2% on an annual basis.
This guarantees further painful interest rate increases by the Federal Reserve

Washington - More U.S. adults are now feeling financially vulnerable amid high inflation — a political risk for President Joe Biden and his fellow Democrats one month before the midterm elections.
Some 46% of people now call their personal financial situation poor, up from 37% in March, according to a new poll by The Associated Press-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research. That’s a notable downturn at a particularly inopportune moment for Biden, given that the share of Americans who felt positive about their finances had stayed rock steady over the last few years — even during the economic turmoil of the COVID-19 pandemic.
And while a majority of Americans see high prices

Officials at the Federal Reserve and in the Biden administration are seeing promising signs that the U.S. might finally be through the worst of inflation. But don’t expect them to declare victory anytime soon.
Import prices have dropped as the value of the dollar has surged. Supply chain snarls have been easing for months. Retailers have been building up their backroom store of products. All of these trends suggest that price spikes should begin to cool off.
But topline inflation data has remained stubbornly high, feeding the steady drumbeat of remarks by central bank policymakers that they can’t let up yet.

The testimony of FBI supervisory analyst Brian Auten in the trial of Igor Danchenko is shocking. CNN reports:
Shortly before the 2016 election, the FBI offered retired British spy Christopher Steele “up to $1 million” to prove the explosive allegations in his dossier about Donald Trump, a senior FBI analyst testified Tuesday. If you were alive during the Trump era, there was one phrase you probably grew tired of hearing: Quid pro quo.
For months on end, non-stop “quid pro quo” coverage dominated the news as Trump was accused of holding up military aid to Ukraine in order to secure an investigation into Hunter Biden’s corruption in the country. Eventually, that led to one of the more farcical impeachments in history, with no actual direct evidence of Trump being involved in said “quid pro quo.” I bring good news, though: Quid pro quos are good again. Well, at least if you are Joe Biden because it sure looks like he is trying to enact

Biden made the comments when speaking about how the Army’s 10th Mountain Division trained at Camp Hale in the 1940s and acquired skills that helped them fight the Nazis.
"American soldiers of the 10th Mountain Division scaled that 1800-foot cliff, at night, caught the Germans by surprise, captured key positions, and broke through the Germans' defensive line at a pivotal point in the war," the president said before segueing into remarks about his son.

America loves a comeback story.
When you grow up in western Pennsylvania you are surrounded by some of the most compelling narratives in our history. In Elementary School, local students take field trips to Ft. Necessity to learn about the French and Indian War.
We are reminded of the outgunned, under equipped, and ill-trained Pennsylvania soldiers who won the American Revolution under George Washington. We hear about Andrew Carnegie coming to America with nothing and building the greatest steel empire that ever existed.
We adapt these stories to the generational Pittsburgh legends like Bill Mazeroski’s hitting the 1960 World Series homerun, the Bradshaw to Harris Immaculate Reception, and

Igor Danchenko is on trial, but so is the FBI.
That is the theme of Russiagate special counsel John Durham’s prosecution of Danchenko, heading into its third day of trial in Alexandria, Va., federal court.
Danchenko is charged with five counts of lying to the FBI about two of his sources for what became the infamous “Steele dossier” — a compilation of faux intelligence reports, mainly authored by former British spy Christopher Steele, that portrayed the GOP’s then-presidential candidate, Donald Trump, as a clandestine agent of Russia.
Danchenko was Steele’s principal source.

In today’s very partisan environment, where Democrats and Republicans have completely opposed views on critical issues, it is imperative to know the political registration of all people running for local offices — especially city councils and school boards.
For most Americans, the political party they are registered with is an introduction to their personal values and core beliefs. Learning a city council and school board candidate’s party affiliation should be the first step in reviewing their bona fides.
However, we can no longer assume party affiliation is enough information.

Crime will be fresh on the minds of voters during November’s midterm elections. But there is no greater robbery than that being planned by the Biden administration. What it’s proposing is a government-backed mugging.
In essence, the White House wants to outlaw gig work in America. No, it’s not saying so outright. The Biden Labor Department obscures that harsh reality with words meant to deceive. Labor Secretary Marty Walsh says the department’s proposal is needed to safeguard “our nation’s most vulnerable workers,” and ensure they are not deprived “of their federal labor protections.”

It's no secret that billionaire philanthropist and financier George Soros has had a hand in the rise of many major political players. From his heavy investment in the sheriffs in Arizona to his funding of grassroots activists in Ferguson, Soros's money and influence seem to be nestled in every nook and cranny across the country. A new study suggests that measures to reduce the transmission of COVID-19 during the height of the pandemic such as mask mandates and lockdowns have hindered the development of babies.
The study, posted in the Archives of Disease in Childhood, claims that compared to a historical cohort, babies born during lockdown have shown a deficit in social communication. It appears that the stringent precautions taken by state and federal governments across the globe led to babies of the pandemic cohort having “one definite and meaningful word (76.6% vs 89.3%), could point (83.8% vs 92.8%) or wave bye-bye (87.7% vs 94.4%) at 12-month assessment.”

Scott wrote earlier today about the first day’s testimony in the trial of Igor Danchenko. I want to elaborate on the most significant point that emerged from the testimony of FBI supervisory intelligence analyst Brian Auten: the FBI offered Christopher Steele $1 million if he could come up with evidence to support the wild allegations in his “dossier” on Donald Trump. This at a time when the FBI knew that, to date, Steele had nothing.
TechnoFog has a summary and partial transcript of Auten’s testimony, which is worth quoting at length:
Auten was asked about the FBI’s efforts to corroborate the Steele allegations
