Florida Governor Ron DeSantis reacted Thursday afternoon to the news that the jury had returned its recommendation for Parkland’s Marjory Stoneman Douglas murderer Nikolas Cruz. An 11-1 vote ensured the killer would not be handed down the death penalty, but instead serve seventeen life sentences for the premeditated murder of classmates and teachers.

Well, I think the worse punishment for a young person would be looking ahead to 70 or more years of imprisonment. Much worse than a quick humane death.

Except that the death sentence never brings a quick, humane death. The appeals can drag on for decades.

He is right, he deserves the death penalty, instead the taxpayer gets punished having to pay some where around 40k per year to house him, this may sound callus but he isn't worth spending penny on.

Why bother having a jury? Try everyone and sentence them in the court of public opinion. DeSantis would do well to remember what a jury is and how it functions. Anything less and you are piling on the destruction of what remains of our justice system.

To think he will be wasting oxygen for another 70 years or so (unless he gets a little "prison justice" in the interim), plus free medical care, 3 meals a day, free education, and, heck, even a "sex change" if he wants one, is really insane. But I am guessing a pretty boy like him will get passed around by all the prisoners who want to have a little "fun" with him, and then when they are tired of playing, like #1 said, "prison justice" will assure that he won't be around too much longer wasting thsy oxygen!!!

Ron DeSantis has the courage to say the truth. The death penalty is for those who have done what we have told them not to do, or they will get the death penalty.

I’m not a lawyer but it seems to me that he would have no ability to appeal a death sentence since he pled guilty. His new boyfriends will use him up and then they will kill him. Even the most hardened criminals in prisons don’t take kindly to kid killers.

Kanye West was a person not often on my list of needed-to or wanted-to follow celebrities. In my earlier days, I never listened to rap, so there was that. Then he married Kim Karshashian and I was so vehemently opposed to propping that worthless family up that I started spending even less attention on him, if that was possible. Suddenly, though, as Donald Trump became president and attracted all kinds of people to his camp (“What do you have to lose” – remember?) it was becoming harder to ignore certain folks. Kanye was one of them.

Long on entertainment value and short on pandering to increasingly irate bases, it was simply a great film with call-back messaging. Pro-America, pro-fun, and anti-crusading. Now, Cruise returns to the big screen, as it were, to hype up his next film production, this time the 7th installment of the Mission: Impossible series. Cruise has long been known to do his own stunts – more on that in a moment – but this one truly takes your breath away.

"We've noted that flu activity is starting to increase across much of the country," especially in the Southeast and south-central U.S., the CDC's director, Dr. Rochelle Walensky, told NBC News. "Not everybody got flu vaccinated last year, and many people did not get the flu. So that makes us ripe to have potentially a severe flu season."(Snip)"Flu is on the rise, but it's also all of these other viruses that got knocked off kilter," Esper said.

Never let a crisis go to waste, Rahm Emanuel once advised. Add to that this new axiom: Never let your emergency powers expire. As incompetent as Joe Biden might otherwise be, he’s proven adept at following both. Again: The Biden administration extended the Covid-19 pandemic’s status as a public health emergency for another 90 days, preserving measures such as expanded Medicaid and higher payments to hospitals. The decision follows comments President Biden made in September describing the pandemic as over. Some Republican lawmakers said afterward that the administration should wind down its pandemic response and the emergency designation.
