Inflation worse than expected at 8.2%

Inflation clocked in worse than expected at 8.2% for the 12 months ending in September, according to the consumer price index, bad news for the country’s economic health. The much-anticipated numbers reported by the Bureau of Labor Statistics on Thursday revealed that while it ticked down by one-tenth of a percentage point, inflation is still higher than anticipated and defying the Federal Reserve's aggressive interest rate hikes. Worse, "core inflation," which strips out volatile food and energy prices, rose sharply in September. On an annual basis, it rose to a whopping 6.6%, the highest since 1982.

The Biden energy policy is the pricipal driver of this inflation. Energy equals prosperity and the cost of fuel affects transportation costs at all level of the supply chains. It affects fertilizer costs causing increases in grain prices and all the products, including meat, that depend on corn and wheat production. Dependence on foreign countries like China for pharmaceutical precursors, consumer goods, electronics, and semiconductors makes us subject to their irrational centrally controlled decisions like zero-Covid lockdowns of entire regions of the country. The decision to pay people during the pandemic to stay home was a valid moral choice if you accepted the expert advice of the CDC that this would save lives. The correctness of that policy will be argued for years. People who are paid to not produce goods and services are going to have to pay more for the available goods and services. That's basic supply and demand. The volume of attacks of the Democrat policies are also inflating as the election gets closer. There are well established solutions to the inflation cycle we are facing, but the Fed is fighting the last war like they were Paul Volker and this time doing more harm than good. If the crushing of markets and spiking of bond prices hasn't had any measurable effect on the rate of inflation, maybe they don't know what they are doing and are using the tools they have rather than those that work.

Back in July 2021 when Biden called price increases and inflation transitory, he was correct. They were just the gateway to our current and ever evolving and increasing prices and erratic inflation rates. How the government "experts" can claim that the jump in inflation is unexpected is surprising. Maybe we need some new experts who are not politically motivated and actually live in the real world.

The formula for figuring "inflation" has changed a lot over the years, mostly with Democrats, to leave out a lot of items we all use daily in order to make the rate of inflation look a lot smaller. From what I see when I go to the store, if the rate was figured now the way it was when the double digit inflation rate we saw in the '70s of 14 or 15 percent, today's inflation rate would be more like 30 or forty percent. Maybe even more. Maybe someone on here can make an accurate comparison. I trust commenters on this site a heck of lot more than the "news media".

PORTLAND, Ore. – Betsy Johnson is not running for Miss Congeniality. The longtime Democrat now running for governor of Oregon as an unaffiliated candidate is more likely to drop a swear word than a political platitude. When voters asked if she would repeal Oregon's drug decriminalization law, she responded, "Hell yes." On education, she declared, "Let's not worry about pronouns. Let's worry about mathematics."I am not beholden to any political agenda or ideology, and I'm certainly not running to do something other than fix a place I love," Johnson told Fox News.

Are Democrats trying to incite an insurrection? The party's rhetoric on the "existential threat" of so-called climate change has grown increasingly radical and vitriolic of late, its policy solutions alarmingly anti-democratic in nature. Given the way some Democratic politicians have implicitly endorsed subversive tactics to enact their controversial agenda, one can't help but wonder why outraged liberal voters aren't storming the U.S. Capitol building at this very moment.

Irvin, a popular local official who happens to be black, had been the favorite among the GOP candidates. But a funny thing happened in the months leading up to the vote. When the ballots were tallied, Irvin ended up in third place, well behind Bailey and the upstart Sullivan.

Never let a crisis go to waste, Rahm Emanuel once advised. Add to that this new axiom: Never let your emergency powers expire. As incompetent as Joe Biden might otherwise be, he’s proven adept at following both. Again: The Biden administration extended the Covid-19 pandemic’s status as a public health emergency for another 90 days, preserving measures such as expanded Medicaid and higher payments to hospitals. The decision follows comments President Biden made in September describing the pandemic as over. Some Republican lawmakers said afterward that the administration should wind down its pandemic response and the emergency designation.
