The teachers’ union-backed campaign to overturn school-choice expansion in Arizona has failed due to a shortfall in signatures, the state’s secretary of state announced Thursday.
Under the expansion of Arizona’s universal-voucher program, known as the Empowerment Scholarship Account (ESA), enacted in June, over one million K-12 public school students in the state will become eligible to receive vouchers to fund their attendance at private, charter, or home schools, up from the 11,000 students who are currently eligible. To subject the expansion to a referendum, the anti-school-choice advocacy group Save Our Schools Arizona had to collect 118,823 valid signatures.

Not to put too fine a point on it, but men pretending to be women do not get menopause.
That isn’t an obstacle to the researchers at Kings College in London. Apparently they got some money to research the non-existent phenomenon.
No, I am not kidding. Why would you think that? If scientists can study the effects of cow farts on the climate, why not spend a few dollars to find out how menopause effects trans-women?

Mayor Eric Adams is finalizing a deal with the Norwegian Cruise Line to house migrants on one of its massive cruise ships and dock it at Staten Island’s Homeport, The Post has learned. Adams wants to lease the luxury liner for at least six months and use it to house and process migrants before they enter the city’s shelter system, a source familiar with the matter said. The migrants would be allowed to come and go while staying on the ship, the source said. Preliminary estimates show the plan will be “cheaper” than erecting another tent city similar to the one the city plans to open in the Bronx

Scientists fear they've found the next big pandemic threat — a virus that lives in monkeys in Africa. Simian hemorrhagic fever virus (SHFV) causes devastating internal bleeding and kills virtually every primate it infects. It hijacks the immune system, disabling key defense mechanisms and breaking the body down cell by cell.
No cases have been detected in humans yet but it is 'poised for a spillover', according to US researchers. By developing tests and monitoring the virus now 'the global health community could potentially avoid another pandemic', they said. Experts at the University of Colorado Boulder are raising the alarm due to SHFV's 'compatibility… with humans'. In a lab study,

Britain's Royal Mint has revealed two new coins featuring the likeness of King Charles III.
The image, created by sculptor Martin Jennings, will appear on newly minted 50p and 5£ coins.
In keeping with British tradition for coins featuring male monarchs, Charles is not wearing a crown and faces left. Coins featuring an image of his mother, Queen Elizabeth II, face right and wear a crown. With each successive monarch, the direction of silhouette is changed.
The new coins are inscribed with "Charles III • D • G • REX • F • D," which is a condensed version of the Latin expression "by the Grace of God, Defender of the Faith."

A late ruling yesterday in federal court delivered a setback for Pacific Legal Foundation in its lawsuit against Biden’s Academia bailout. However, the circumstances that prompted it may have delivered even more fodder for six states suing the Biden administration.
Let’s start with the first domino to fall. The Biden administration suddenly reversed course on providing comprehensive and compulsory student-loan debt forgiveness yesterday after seeing the PLF complaint. The Department of Education changed the rules to undercut Frank Garrison’s standing in the first lawsuit, and to head off part of the complaint filed later in the week by the six states:

Russian president Vladimir Putin announced in a speech on Friday that Russia would be formally annexing several regions of Ukraine that it continues to occupy.
Since invading its western neighbor in February, Russian forces have suffered heavy losses, and have more recently been pushed back toward their own border after a Ukrainian counter-offensive found success.
In spite of the recent military setbacks, Putin asserted that “the citizens of Luhansk, Donetsk, Zaporozhia, and Kherson have become our citizens forever,” directly addressing Ukraine’s government and “its real masters in the West.”

The county filed a civil enforcement lawsuit against the church in November 2020 to collect fines and penalties totaling $2.87 million—

In the Wisconsin Senate and gubernatorial races things are looking really bad for Democrats. RealClearPolitics rates the race a “toss-up,” but the polls seem to indicate that is no longer
