Weather Channel’s Jim Cantore struck
by tree live on air during Hurricane Ian

Dramatic footage showed Weather Channel meteorologist Jim Cantore struggling to stand and being struck by a tree branch while on-air covering Hurricane Ian in Florida. Cantore was reporting live from an intersection in Punta Gorda, Florida, Wednesday when he was nearly taken out by a tree branch as the Category 4 storm bore down on the state’s west coast. The dramatic footage captured Cantore stumbling through heavy rains and 100-mph winds. Cantore was seen placing his hands on the road as he staggered toward a traffic signal. “Give me a second,” he said, barely losing composure as he regained his footing. “You just can’t stand up!”

About time. These weather people look so foolish standing in the midst of wind and rain. What are they trying to prove?

I don't enjoy watching reporters standing in the wind in a parking lot. That makes the report about the reporter. I would rather pull back and see the surrounding area, including a message on the screen that says where the shot is taken.

Standing outside in major hurricane winds can be deadly if an object breaks loose and gets propelled into someone's head. One day a hurricane watcher is going to get permanently KOed by a flying object, and the Weather Channel will issue a new set of orders. They're taking chances now. Yesterday Cantore was standing near a couple of twisted road signs that might take flight suddenly. That didn't happen, but I was uncomfortable watching him.

Jim had a tougher time standing up because of the wind than being clipped by the tree branch. The tree branch actually helped him by making him get lower against the wind gusts. When Jim Cantori retires, the weather channel will have an hour long broadcast of nothing but him broadcasting while in snowstorms and hurricanes.

Amid the wreckage this week in Florida due to Hurricane Ian, one military family is counting its blessings — and wishing for the safety, well-being and good health of other Americans who have been badly impacted by the latest destructive storm. The family also reminded other Americans that we have “built” in the past — and “we will rebuild” in the future. “Yesterday evening I got a notification on my phone that our nest cam picked up movement,” wrote the mom of four based in Sarasota, Fla., on Thursday. She shared her messages and story with Fox News Digital and asked for privacy for her family.

Carter, who has lived longer than any other president in US history, marked the occasion with his family, including wife Rosalynn, 95. He attended a parade in Plains and watched from a wheelchair. A picture posted by the Carter Center showed Carter smiling and observing the parade from a wheelchair. That evening, he was likely to watch his favorite team, the Atlanta Braves, on television as they battled for the top spot in the National League East, his grandson said.

Local officials warned of the potential for looting after Hurricane Ian tore through the area and left countless buildings battered and exposed. Lee County Sheriff Carmine Marceno issued a stiff warning to would-be thieves this week as the Category 4 storm made landfall in his jurisdiction.

Like Pavlov’s dogs, when liberals saw a hurricane heading towards Florida, their immediate reaction was, slobber slobber drool drool. “Man made climate change caused this hurricane!” A few weeks ago, I wrote about the Weather’s Channel’s report that August had no hurricanes at all. Unusual, but not unknown. That fact produced no rush to deny MMCC (“man-made climate change”). The lack of hurricanes doesn’t disprove MMCC, one big hurricane, though, does prove it. No scientific evidence (other than the hurricane) is offered, just sheer demagoguery by psychopaths. “When in trouble, when in doubt, run in circles, scream and shout.” And people will listen to you,

Visiting before the National Review Institute's annual Buckley Prize dinner, I unexpectedly found these words a little jarring. What leading politician believes such things anymore? That number will no doubt rise, but it is far short of the deadliest, and might be one of the least deadly hurricanes to hit that hurricane-prone state. The deadliest record was set in
