Workers at an office of US insurance giant Geico have embarked on a unionization campaign in the face of what they say are aggressive and unfair management tactics to prevent them from forming a labor union. Workers at the office of about 2,500 employees in Amherst, New York, near Buffalo, say they have faced deteriorating working conditions in the past two years under Geico CEO Todd Combs. Combs is an investment manager and protege of billionaire Warren Buffett, whose firm Berkshire Hathaway owns Geico–known across the US for its ads featuring its English-accented gecko mascot. The organising effort, Geico United, went public shortly after Geico sent out

Any company that doesn't use aggressive tactics to deter unions is exceptionally stupid.
I hope the union is deterred.

Be interesting to know what Geico's loss ratio is (Premiums to claims. Insurance companies don't mind just breaking even since they make most of their money investing the premium dollars. If Geico is currently losing their a** on the insurance side while the market is tanking, this may play into their union resistance.

Apologies for the second post, but I meant to add that Hurricane Ian will not help matters either.

GEICO used to be a good insurance company. No independent agents so premiums were lower than usual. Quality service via their regional company offices.
As another poster said, no smart company welcomes unions. They fight them. See #1.

I once had to counsel a young corporate accounting department employee who said she was worried about job security.
“The only security any employee has is that the company needs the position they hold and the employee does a very good job of performing in that position."

This is when you find out who the malcontents of a company are. The ones who want more pay for less work. The ones who want groundhog day as an official company holiday. The ones who want 12 weeks vacation after their first year. The ones you wished you never hired in the first place. You can always spot the pro union employees, they're the ones who yawn 30 times a day and fall asleep while standing at the water cooler. You know, the ones with all of the initiative. Get it yet...............

I've had Geico for the last 8 years and my premiums have gone down each year. Maybe if you have no tickets, claims or accidents other companies offer the same. Hopefully, they can ward off a union takeover.
I left teaching over 40 years ago when younger teachers managed to bring in the union to our school system. Within 2 years there was the first of several strikes, ultimately splitting a formerly congenial faculty into opposing camps. 'Scabs' suffered the most from what I learned from former friends. Look where the education system is now. Hang in there Geico!

Warren Buffett, Berkshire Hathaway, owned company. I worked for another BH company that was vociferously anti union. Funny a lib would be so anti union!

Pay close attention to the Geico rate increases if the unionization takes place. Unions cost a lot of money so they can pay the democrats their blood money.

Unions have destroyed the car industry, the steel industry, and public education. Be careful what you ask for.

One of the top reasons so many companies moved manufacturing to other countries. No unions which result in cheaper labor costs. Cheaper labor however doesn't result in less expensive products.
