The Evangelical Lutheran Church released a statement Tuesday stating opposition to the Supreme Court's leaked draft opinion that could overturn Roe v. Wade. The ECLA, a medium-sized denomination with approximately 3 million members in the U.S., made the announcement via their website and social media. Bishop Elizabeth Eaton, the head of the ECLA, cited the church's 1991 social teachings document as the basis for the church's support of abortion access. (snip) “[While] the leaked draft does not represent the Supreme Court's ruling in its final form; nevertheless, it contradicts this church's teaching."

My father, a Lutheran pastor, jumped ship from this apostate body in 1975--well before the ALC & LCA formed the ELCA. He never regretted his decision.

This is what happens when women are allowed into the priesthood. Thirty years ago, women couldn't be priests in the ELCA, now they have ascended to power and the twisting of Scripture to meet the feminist agenda. So glad I'm in the Missouri Synod, the conservative wing of the Lutheran Church.

Someone otta remind Bishop Eaton that we can make abortion legal and accessible, but not moral; because no matter how you slice it, abortion is premeditated murder (indefensible termination of a defenseless, innocent life). Repent, bish.

Simply assume that radicals can justify and undermine ANYTHING. Women will still have access to abortion under states’ aegis despite what Eaton says. Think twice about being a member of ANY religious institution which condones murder of the pre-born.

Members of the ECLA who have had enough of conforming their Church to this evil generation might do well to consider a move to the Missouri Synod, or even a traditional Catholic Church.

The ELCA Lutheran Church is losing members and, sometimes, entire congregations, over the past decade. The ordination of practicing homosexuals became the tipping point. They have made it impossible to remain a member.

#4,#10,#12,#13,#15~ Please, with all due respect, such sweeping statements are grossly unfair to Lutherans of other Synods; not every Lutheran belongs to the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA). The “ELCA organization has been recognized by the LCMS as neither Lutheran nor Christian.” Fox News erred with its banner, “Evangelical Lutheran Church.” It is the Lutheran Church in America (ELCA) asserting that “abortion must be legal and accessible.”

Bishop "Elizabeth" --- that right there establishes the illegitimacy of this decision. Women NEVER have spiritual authority over men, period. There are no female pastors, priests, preachers, fathers, etc. Don't argue with me, but with the Apostle Paul, who said, "Let your women keep silence in the churches: for it is not permitted unto them to speak; but they are commanded to be under obedience, as also saith the law." Lutheran doctrine has no place in the ELCA! The Law is never preached and The Gospel has been turned into a convoluted set of works to save Mother Gaia! Luther spins in his grave! Scripture is VERY clear that life begins in the womb! Stay away from this Satanic sect! The Lutheran Church Missouri Synod is still Biblical and conservative! Excellent church body!

As a pro-life atheist, I’ve never been more confused. That starts with the fact that Ocasio-Cortez is herself Catholic. Does she consider her own faith “fundamentalist”? I presume she’d say the Church requires its members to be pro-life in their private conduct (isn’t she pro-choice?) but doesn’t require them to enshrine their beliefs in public policy. If that’s the case, I’d politely refer her to today’s news. Beyond that, she seems to be arguing that abortion is some sort of religious right. Conservatives have accused the left for years of treating abortion as a sort of sacrament but it turns out we didn’t know the half of it.
