Just two days after new CNN president Chris Licht announced the embattled news network will be moving away from cable news “extremism” and seek “a different way,” longtime Senior Vice President and editor-in-chief of CNN Digital Worldwide Meredith Artley has announced she is leaving after 12 years. Artley, who worked as a top executive under former CNN President Jeff Zucker, said she was frustrated by the corporate shakeups that have come in the wake of a mega-merger between Discovery and CNN’s parent company, Warner Media, sources told Axios.

It would take a massive investment in new staff, in back of the camera, as well as in front, to really rehab CNN. As it stands, they are paid by the cable systems to air their stuff, so I don't know if the financial incentive is strong enough to change their ways. I did enjoy watching Bernie, the black newsguy on CNN, who, in one of the debates, asked the death penalty question to Mike Dukakis. That question knocked Kukakis down in the polls, and probably coast him the presidency. Bring back Bernie!

A city council in Kansas has voted to walk back a measure that mandated the removal of “In God We Trust” decals from police vehicles after constituents pushed back against the ban, KWCH reported. At the May 2 council meeting in Haven, Councilmember Sandra Williams made a motion to nix the “In God We Trust” decals in addition to bible scripture posted to the Haven Police Department (HPD) Facebook page, the outlet previously noted. The motion resulted in a unanimous five to zero vote to remove both the decals — which officers purchased themselves months ago — and the scripture from the Facebook page.

ROME — San Francisco Archbishop Salvatore Cordileone said Friday that he was “guided by the principles articulated by Pope Francis” in his decision to bar House Speaker Nancy Pelosi from receiving Holy Communion because of her aggressive abortion advocacy. In a lengthy interview with Gloria Purvis, Archbishop Cordileone insisted that he cannot judge Ms. Pelosi’s conscience, but “to be so aggressively promoting it — that’s not what a devout Catholic does. So I believe in her heart, she feels that way, but there is a disconnect on this issue.”

WASHINGTON, DC — Former Hillary Clinton campaign lawyer Michael Sussmann denied he was “representing a client” when he gave the CIA faulty data linking Donald Trump to Russia — and appeared “frustrated” that officials weren’t taking the information seriously, two former agency employees testified Friday. One ex-spy — identified in court only as “Kevin P.” — recalled that he and a colleague met with Sussmann at CIA headquarters in Langley, Va., in February 2017, shortly after Trump took office.

As a pro-life atheist, I’ve never been more confused. That starts with the fact that Ocasio-Cortez is herself Catholic. Does she consider her own faith “fundamentalist”? I presume she’d say the Church requires its members to be pro-life in their private conduct (isn’t she pro-choice?) but doesn’t require them to enshrine their beliefs in public policy. If that’s the case, I’d politely refer her to today’s news. Beyond that, she seems to be arguing that abortion is some sort of religious right. Conservatives have accused the left for years of treating abortion as a sort of sacrament but it turns out we didn’t know the half of it.

For regular readers of this site, today’s news will likely not come as a surprise, but much of the nation seems to remain unaware of it. The North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC) has released its latest reliability assessment for the summer of 2022 and, to put it mildly, the news is not good. In far too many states, the power grid is already nearly at full capacity, and in the next few months, that capacity will be exceeded. This isn’t a question of “if” or really even “when.” It’s just a fact. Industry experts know this and have been trying to sound the alarm for several years.

The Biden administration privately acknowledged late last month that a mathematical error is delaying the federal government’s offshore oil and gas program. In an April 29 letter to industry leaders obtained by the Daily Caller News Foundation, the head of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration says that a subagency “discovered a miscalculation” that has caused a massive backlog in permitting. Richard Spinrad acknowledged in his letter that the National Marine Fisheries Service—the subagency tasked with analyzing the impact of offshore drilling projects on wildlife—has used faulty computer modeling on such impacts. As a result, Spinrad wrote, the subagency overestimated wildlife effects, delaying permitting on existing leases.
