A leading figure in the Biden administration has backed a recovery programme for Ukraine in the style of the Marshall plan, which helped rebuild Europe after the second world war. Pete Buttigieg, the US transportation secretary, said there was plenty of political will at home and internationally towards cooperating in long-term reconstruction efforts including to buttress existing infrastructure in Ukraine. “With the memory of the Marshall plan in mind, what we’re talking about is not only about how we fund immediate needs and support their ability to maintain the war effort, but how we support the ability of Ukraine to be economically viable and generate a sustainable future for themselves

The 40 bil that 's going to sent there is money borrowed from China. Going to borrow more while the citizens of America are being strangled by inflation? What a great idea.

Umm, it would be nice if our Secretary of Transportation concerned himself with the abysmal supply chain currently plaguing us. What does this guy do other than make the occasional pronouncement?

I don’t believe that Buttigieg is in a position to sign on the USA to the serous money and debt it will take to rebuild Ukraine after it is being destroyed by the Russians over a term that nobody knows will end. You have to hope that the Ukrainians did not take Buttigieg’s words as a guarantee. Can you imagine the corrupt rake-offs that will take place once a trillion or more US dollars are sent to Ukraine, which has had a reputation of corruptness, by foreign individuals and entities, along with the individuals and entities connected to the corrupt DC UniParty? Who is going to follow that money to ensure that those corrupt rake-offs are held to a minimum, surely not the wimpy Republicans!

NO EFFING WAY! Why do we have to do rebuild Ukraine when there is a wealthy EU in their backyard. We have enough problems here than to shovel money into a corrupt country. Accuse me of being heartless. I don’t care. It’s not automatic that we have to spend our dollars on another country’s problem. Sell off any Russian assets and use that money, but not mine!

I stopped reading the article after the first seven words. Nice try, Kate, but no cigar. Buttplugs is hardly a "leading figure".

Whatever happened to “pay as you go,” “balancing a budget” and “fiscal sanity?” My children and their descendants are so “screwed” as Americans unless we reign this monster in. My mother tells me that term is foul language, but it is the best term I can apply.

Let’s rephrase that. Democrats and the pathetic Rino establishment fools want to rebuild Ukraine. Americans do not. Let the European countries help their neighbor. We have more than enough on our plate trying to save the country from the wrecking ball that is the democrat party.

I guess mrs peter b’gig gets a percentage of the rebuild after biden/nato fomented war.
That’s what you call win/win. A percentage of the war materiel and a percentage of the rebuild. Of course for Ukrainians and US citizens it’s lose/lose.
But hey, you’ve got to shatter some lives to get a percentage of the loot; that’s what you were hired for, your absolute lack of conscience and caring.
Small town pete has hit the big time: he’s shattering lives for payola.

When did our Transportation Secretary become Secretary of State? This moron isn't qualified for either position. The only box he checks off is the diversity box. No way to run a country or anything else.

Since when does the Secretary of Transportation have anything to do with such international relations as a new "Marshall Plan"? Isn't that the purview of the Secretary of State or the POTUS or VPOTUS? I know POTUS and VPOTUS are incompetent, but so is everyone else in this face we call the Biden Administration. But why does the Secretary of Transportation say such things?

Putin might as well flatten the whole country so America can rebuild the place from a clean slate. The contractors would love that.

Comparing this to the Marshall Plan---that helped rebuild Germany after WW2--- is both dishonest and outrageous! Germany was an enemy we defeated at great sacrifice to the USA. Germany's well-deserved destruction was principally at our hands. How is there ANY similarity?

Why not. Will some nation somewhere down the line decide that the USA deserves to be economically viable and can generate a sustainable future for its people, or do the American people merely exist as chattel to be exploited at the pleasure of our illegitimate federal government?
