On Tuesday, California Gov. Gavin Newsom signed a $7.6 billion coronavirus relief package providing aid to 5.7 million people.

A park named after founding father Benjamin Franklin in Washington has been renamed to honor Rosa Franklin, the state's first African American woman to serve in the state Senate. Metro Parks' Board of Commissioners in Tacoma unanimously voted to change the park's name in Franklin's honor on Monday, according to a column in The News Tribune. Biden’s latest move toward a less stringent immigration system will feature a change in the required civic examination citizenship applicants must take.
Announced in a Policy Alert on Monday, the civics examination requirement implemented in December 2020 will switch to an earlier version implemented in 2008. The 2020s civic exam featured 128 possible questions on the exam. With Biden’s new order, it will switch to the 100 possible questions seen in the 2008 version.
Some content will be altered as well. The policy alert did not specify what these changes would be.
Two lawyers accused of tossing a Molotov cocktail into an empty NYPD car during the George Floyd protests last year were quietly offered a plea deal by federal prosecutors, according to court papers filed Saturday.
The offer was tucked away in a routine status report in the case and contained no details about the specifics of the deal. The feds said they had extended plea offers to the two on Feb. 11, and that the defense was now looking it over.

Olympia Fields, Ill.—An Illinois lawmaker has a new response to the recent surge in carjackings around the Chicago area—banning a popular video game.
State Rep. Marcus Evans said during a press conference Monday morning in south suburban Olympia Fields that video games are contributing to the carjacking surge across the area. "Grand Theft Auto," which had its first installment released back in 1997, is the main issue, he said.(Snip)

Governor Greg Abbott requested statewide designation for major disaster relief from President Biden. Biden denied the statewide designation and only approved some counties in Texas, not all of them. Abbott asked for a declaration that covered the entire state because the winter storm knocked out power and heat throughout the state, as well as leaving millions of Texans without water. Texas has 254 counties. Biden approved only 77 counties for disaster relief. The governor calls it an important first step but it falls far short of what Texas officials requested. MyPillow CEO Mike Lindell says he expects to lose $65 million in pillow revenue this year because of retailer boycotts over his claims that the 2020 US election was rigged.
That projection, Lindell told Insider in an interview Monday after being served with a defamation lawsuit from Dominion Voting Systems seeking $1.3 billion in damages, is evidence he isn't pushing election-fraud claims for the money.
