Mayor de Blasio’s decision to paint “Black Lives Matter” on public streets doesn’t mean a pro-Donald Trump group can post its own message on the pavement, a judge ruled Thursday. Manhattan Federal Judge Lorna Schofield ruled that “Black Lives Matter” painted on Fifth Ave. outside Trump Tower and other streets over the summer constituted speech by government—and that the city’s decision to paint those words did not give others the right to paint messages of their own. That meant that the Virginia-based Women for America First did not have the right to paint: “Engaging, Inspiring and Empowering Women to Make a Difference!”

That’s because they know they’re losing. Some are losing audiences and revenues. But more important, they’re losing control of the narrative. And since control of the narrative, and the power and self-importance that accompany that control, is the most important thing in their lives, they can’t be happy.
The False and Exaggerated Claims Still Being Spread About the Capitol Riot replies

What took place at the Capitol on January 6 was undoubtedly a politically motivated riot. As such, it should not be controversial to regard it as a dangerous episode. Any time force or violence is introduced into what ought to be the peaceful resolution of political conflicts, it should be lamented and condemned. But none of that justifies lying about what happened that day, especially by the news media. Condemning that riot does not allow, let alone require, echoing false claims in order to render the event more menacing and serious than it actually was.

The “Flynn Effect” is the phenomena identified by intelligence researcher James Flynn. He found that average intelligence quotients, or IQ’s, as measured by standardized tests were steadily increasing through the course of the 20th century. That sounds quite natural because, after all, each generation gets better nurturing. They get better health, improved medical care, more nutritious food and greater schooling. But IQ is supposed to be mainly about nature, not nurture. Nurturing can certainly affect a person’s well-being, but in theory it doesn’t change a person’s IQ much (except of course when the nurturing is so bad that it produces negative neurological effects).

WASHINGTON— President Joe Biden is in a political firestorm over how and when to get more schools open during the coronavirus pandemic, with Republicans seizing on confusion surrounding Biden’s goal to reopen a majority of schools within his first 100 days to paint the president as beholden to teachers’ unions at the expense of American families.Biden’s administration in recent weeks has sent muddled and at times contradictory messages about his goal. On Tuesday night, the president said his 100-day goal was to have most elementary schools open five days a week, seeming to conflict with his own press secretary, who had said last week that schools would be considered “open”

NASA will today try and land its Perseverance rover on the surface of Mars in a crucial moment for the space agency's hopes of colonising the red planet. The descent of the $2.2billion car-sized spacecraft will be live streamed by NASA from 2:15 pm ET (7:15pm GMT) and will show Perseverance trying to endure the so-called 'seven minutes of terror'. This refers to the tumultuous conditions which batter the craft as it enters the Martian atmosphere and approaches the surface. Temperatures are expected to exceed 2,000°F and a supersonic parachute will be deployed to slow the rover down from its entry speed of around 12,000mph

A young friend has been avalanching me with notes about how “disastrously” Trump and his followers misbehaved on January 6. Presumably if no rally had taken place in Washington to protest the presidential election returns, then the Democratic administration would never have launched a crusade against “domestic terrorism.” It was the populist Right and the outgoing president who apparently caused this era of repression to commence. If they had paid more attention to our beleaguered circumstances, then they would have avoided their rash decision to call for a mass demonstration on January 6.My response to this widely held opinion is that none of this may matter in the end.

For more than 30 years, Rush Limbaugh sat down and talked to Americans about America. Across the country, in pickup trucks, roadside diners and quiet cubicles where his listeners were obliged to wear headphones lest they offend, his rich baritone rolled out of the air, and it spoke the truth. Rush Limbaugh changed the course of American history. Without him, the conservative movement and the country would be fundamentally different today. For this, the left cursed him, and some on the right as well. But in the end, he beat them back time and again.  CORRECTION*

These are crazy times. A pandemic led to national quarantine; to self-induced recession; to riot, arson, and looting; to a contested election; and to a riot at the U.S. Capitol. In response, are we focusing solely on upping the daily vaccination rate? Getting the country back to work? Opening the schools as the virus attenuates? Ensuring safety in the streets? Or are we descending into a sort of madness? It might have been understandable that trillions of dollars had to be borrowed to keep a suffocating economy breathing. But it makes little sense to keep borrowing $2 trillion a year to prime an economy now set to roar back

While discussing the issue of vaccine supply during the town hall, Biden initially said there were 50 million doses available when he assumed office. “We came into office, there were only 50 million doses that were available. By the end of July we’ll have over 600 million doses,” Biden told host Anderson Cooper.
