TOPEKA, Kan. — Bob Dole, a former longtime senator and the 1996 Republican presidential nominee, announced Thursday that he has been diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer.
Dole, 97, said in a short statement that he was diagnosed recently and would begin treatment on Monday.
“While I certainly have some hurdles ahead, I also know that I join millions of Americans who face significant health challenges of their own,” Dole said.
Dole, a native of Russell, Kansas, represented the state in Congress for almost 36 years before resigning from the Senate in 1996

I am no fan of Dole's politics, but sorry for his health problems.
He stabbed us in the back politically a number of times, I can't forget that.

Best wishes to Senator Dole. A good friend of ours participated in an Honor Flight. Senator Dole greeted the group at the WW2 Memorial.

A wonderful man - - incredibly brave - - a true hero and patriot. But - - when it came to politics - - he never showed those same attributes.
We love you, Senator - - God bless and keep you.

At 97 years old, I think I'd just ask for palliative care and use the time I had left to get my affairs in order.

I rode my Harley Davidson quite a distance to see Bob Dole during his campaigned in Louisiana when I lived there. Nice man and very surprised to see his name again. Thoughts are with him and his family.

I am sure when he passes the left will throw a bigger celebration of death party than they did for Rush.

I agree with #9. There is an age at which I would pass on anything but palliative care for advanced cancer. Keep me comfortable and let me go. A dear beautiful friend of mine, in her 60s, was notified that she had advanced lung cancer and only had about a month to live. It can move very fast. She spent the month with her adult daughters, reminiscing, looking through old photo albums. She died as she had lived, quietly and gracefully. I still miss her...

97 years of age and cancer treatment is a bit much, especially when it's already at Stage IV... I wish him the best, but it's not a good prognosis.

If it were me at that age, I think that I would just ask to be kept comfortable and let nature take its course.

Just sayin'... We've been studying cancer for a long, LONG time. Did they ever work out a way to weaponize it? I mean, I can recall an entire branch of cancer research had to be discarded, because one strain of cancer had a tendency to invade and essentially replace other samples if given the slightest opportunity. Back in the fifties, lab containment protocols didn't match modern ones.
But Rush dying, now Dole (who, doesn't really march with Rush in my eyes) and it got me to thinking.
Putin used polonium, because there weren't tests to detect it. But what could be better in an assassin's quiver, than an arrow, one would accept, even expect?
As you might guess, I dont like or trust Democrats.

97 years old and the McConnell of his day. The sacrificial lamb to re-elect Bill Clinton. Blessings to the old man. At his worst, he wasn't McCain.

#11 You do not always have to correct yourself. No one cares. You are using up bandwith.

I'm sorry to hear of his diagnosis. His politics was from a different era but he did many good things, like promoting the WWII memorial in Washington DC. Hopefully he can enjoy his remaining time and not suffer.

#2 I agree with you somewhat, Dole was a mixed bag. On the positive side, he supported President Trump and Dr. Roger Marshall. I'll always thank him for that.

At 97 why spend the rest of your life in pain and puking from Chemo?
Call your priest, kiss your wife and use all of the OxyCodein at one time.

I wouldn’t be surprised if Senator Dole cancels the chemo after the first hit. It’s all his business, but he may find being comfortable is the better way at his age.

Like McPain, "it was his turn" and Sarah Palin was the conservative side-kick.
Jack Kemp gave Dole his conservative side-kick
MItten's side kick Ryano pretended to be a fiscal conservative.
RINOs all on the top of the ticket, who lost miserably.
NO MORE RINO liars-- let THEM go form their own party.
Sorry Senator Dole, but I preferrred your wife Elizabeth to you, no disrespect intended.

Whether you like him or not, I would not wish cancer or the treatment on anyone. We are so advanced we just landed on Mars, but can't cure cancer.
One of my friends is dying and another was just diagnosed with Stage 3 breast cancer.
