Sen. Ted Cruz acknowledged Thursday that he flew to Mexico with his family even as his state reels from a historic storm that has left hundreds of thousands of people without power and safe drinking water, saying he made the trip to "be a good dad." The Republican lawmaker faced backlash after initial reports emerged on social media that he had jetsetted to Cancun despite the widespread crisis in Texas, but he defended himself in a statement Thursday afternoon saying it was a trip for his two daughters, Caroline and Catherine, and their friends.

He shoulda said he took his daughters to Cancun to get abortions. Then the left would be praising him.

I am not happy with Ted Cruz right now over how he stabbed President Trump in the back. But this is ridiculous.
He had this trip planned well in advance. He is not one of those hypocritical lie-berals that tells everyone to stay home to avoid spreading the black plague (oops, I mean Covid-19).
This was a planned vacation, and I sure would have taken one this past week (rather than sit home in the dark, and then have to melt snow -- which we never get here -- to flush the toilets when the water went out)!!!
Compare this to the ultra hypocritical mayor of Austin who went to Mexico and recorded a message telling the peasants of Austin not to dare travel over Thanksgiving!!!

I will presume he flew out of Washington DC area, not from somewhere in Texas.
And, with the freeze, and power outages in Texas, would he have been able to fly into Texas? To do what?
Would he not have been keeping up with things whether in DC or Cancun with his family?
Oh, and this was all started by the Lincoln Club folks too, from what I hear. Hardly the pillars of doing the right thing.

Managing the everyday services is the job of governors and mayors, not Senators. Am I wrong ?

I don't bow at the feet of Ted Cruz, but honestly, what could he have done? Texas ice storms can be terrible. This one is worse than most. No politician can change the weather, and no one should be out on streets like frozen glass for any reason except to save a person's life.
Others are asking where is Biden? I can't stand Biden, but again, what could good could he be doing right now slip-sliding around Texas? Texas' state and local governments need to handle this crisis and when it is over, the Feds can assess the damage and issue the appropriate funds to assist.
No politician can wave a magic wand and make problems go away. Time to grow up, everyone.

He should be run out of town. How dare he sleep with communist Chinese spy and make millions selling the Chicom's access to his influential father! Oops, sorry. My mistake, Cruz is the one took his kids and their friends on vacation during a freak weather event.

I think you’re right #4.
If you’re one of those people who think your doctor should cancel her vacation because you’ve got a cold or even worse, then you need to see that people have to have a life no matter what your crisis is.
Add to that that as #4 observes there is little to nothing he could do, they need to get real.
But remembering enemies take every opportunity -to paraphrase rahmit emanually - pay no attention to their caterwauling.

To all posters who think that Cruz should be in Texas, I ask “Doing what?”
- Abbot is in charge in Texas - is Cruz supposed to stand around and watch Abbot?
- Should Cruz stand on the northern border of Texas and raise his hands and command the storm stay away? (Didn’t Zero try this with the rising oceans?)
- Should Cruz take a blowtorch and thaw out windmills?
- Shovel snow off the solar panels?
I’m trying here ... any reasonable suggestions?
The trip was most likely a pre-planned event and he was being a good Dad. Listening to all the caterwauling about a nothing-burger like this does not speak well of the left's 'unity' demands.

This is from ABC News not exactly a "severely conservative" news organization nor is it a particularly a reasonable source of unbiased news.
Cruz is a SENATOR not a governor or a mayor what is he supposed to do???

Ted is always about Ted. Ted could have said something about the people of Texas, and how he was going to help with this problem. Appearances are everything. But instead, the only thing we hear is about Ted in Cancun. We heard nothing from Cornyn, who's only function is to stand behind McConnell, and do what McConnell tells him to do, which is to keep silent, and do what McConnell says.

This is the left working to take out anyone remotely conservative. The left will trash him with anything they think might damage him - wait until they find out he occasionally left the toilet seat up in his dorm room in college (in an all male dorm). That will bring calls for impeachment and imprisonment. Political death by thousands of tiny little cuts. And the stupids will fall for it - and there are a lot of them.

The only thing that Ted Cruz could possibly do to help the situation in Texas is to organize a trip of Bipartisan politicians (heavy on Democrats) to go to Texas to "investigate and fact-find". Make sure they give lots of speeches and TV interviews. All of the hot air coming from their mouths (and the fawning media) will certainly be enough to thaw all of the wind turbines in no time. Also, since every member of Congress seems to think that they are an expert on everything simply because they are in Congress, I'm sure they will icing solve the problem immediately.

Cruz is not telling other people not to travel and then going out and doing the opposite like the mayors, governors and old Nancy. There is nothing he can do at this point and nothing big mouth Robert Francis O'Rourke can do. The trip was planned so, why not. The airports in Texas are closed. The roads are closed or dangerous. At least he is not using utilities, water and other resources that can be used for others.

Did I miss something, #2. When and how did Ted Cruz stab President Trump in the back? Was it when he denied that Vice-President Pence didn’t have the authority to block the certification of electors? The constitution backs Cruz up on that one. Was it when he opined that impeachment and trial could occur when the official is no longer in office? I do disagree with that but I fail to see how that is back-stabbing.

Its over. Its just better to tell the truth. One does not have to worry about the details of your story if you just tell the truth. They should have just stuck to the truth that it was a planned vacation.

We are self-righteously falling for the media's plan to draw and quarter us using republicans!
Since Mr. Trump's exit from DC, virtually all invective is focussed on conservatives and not the RINOs
Senator Cruz is not the enemy-- the libs are constanty trying to divide us-- let's go after THEM!

Sorry, this is a total non-event. If he had stayed in Texas and froze that helps exactly HOW?
Anyone who could drain down pipes and such and bail out to a place that is either warmer or has power should have done it. Folks with farm animals and various immoveable responsibilties couldn't do that. Folks that have a critical need for RELIABLE electrical power need to have their own generator system, either a portable one, or one of the pad mounted automatic ones running on nat gas or propane. Since nat gas was in short supply, it would seem that a large propane storage on site would be more reliable.

Ted Cruz did the right thing. There wasn't a durn thing he could do to warm up the weather.
The EPA on the other hand are very much at fault for our problems because of not allowing power plants to be run at full capacity. Damages to any and all Texans,or other Americans, should be taken directly out of their budget. Deaths caused by reduced generation allowed should result in murder charges for anyone in EPA or other national gov't agencies that contributed to such lousy decisions. These actions should not be limited to just this cold spell either.
As for one poster saying people should have their own generator, often this is not economically possible, we pay power companies for this, and in my sixty-one years and many ice storms in the '60s and '70s I have never seen electricity down for more than 4 or 5 hours at a time in this area, but I am rushing this to try to beat tonight;s outages.

Well guys, according to a tough-sounding Cruz on Sean Hannity tonight, there are all kinds of things he is doing about the situation in Texas. So, the “what can he DO anyway” question is being answered by Ted himself. He should have just told the truth when caught at the airport. His suitcase was also pretty big for a guy who was just going to “drop the girls off.” Its the lies that are getting him in trouble. That is not the media’s fault.

Ted, Nancy is the only one who can avoid a medal detector, go maskless, get her hair done, Biden is the only who can go maskless after declaring a mask requirement, Newsome is the only one who can declare a shut down in restaurants while he dines ..ABC owes it to viewers to tell .how many Dems are currently on vacation??

Well. Ted they have been waiting a long time for the "gotcha" Today was it.
Like New Orleans, all those school buses sitting idle, should have been used as warming buses like they do in colder cities for the homeless.
