LOS ANGELES (CBSLA) — The California Independent System Operator Friday declared a statewide Stage 3 Electrical Emergency due to high heat and increased electricity demand — initiating rotating outages throughout the state — for the first time since 2001.
“Several days ago we started seeing the weather forecast and we knew this was going to be a uniquely excessive, very hot heat wave,” Ann Gonzales, of Cal, ISO said.

Oklahoma State University is collecting the location data of students and employees for the purpose of contact tracing, but some affected by the decision feel it has left unanswered questions.
According to the school’s website, the school will track location data for devices that log into WiFi access points to “identify employee and student movement across the OSU campus,” and store that data for 30 days “solely to aid with contact tracing.” (SNIP)“The contact tracing isn’t a problem, and I understand the need for that,” Dr. Senat said. “But this is going a step into collecting data about our movements, whether we test positive for COVID-19 or not.”

The Democrat National Convention, albeit virtual, is set to kick off next week. The speakers have been scheduled and the delegates are ready. Vice presidential nominee Kamala Harris will take the national stage on Wednesday night ahead of presidential nominee Joe Biden on Thursday evening. Both will make their remarks from Delaware without a crowd.
Today, each signed the official paperwork to accept their nominations. [Video]
But while the Democrat Party attempts to rally around a Biden/Harris ticket, President Trump is hitting the campaign trail in Arizona, Minnesota and Wisconsin next week. He will deliver a series of speeches on "Joe Biden’s failures on Jobs and the Economy”

One of the most highly contentious issues of the 2020 presidential cycle is whether it will be safe for Americans to vote in person on November 3, 2020.
For weeks Democrats have held up crucial Wuhan coronavirus relieve packages while demanding billions of dollars for the Post Office in order to bolster mass mail in voting. In California, a state without voter identification laws and outdated registration records, Governor Gavin Newsom plans to mail every registered voter a ballot ahead of election day. Recent elections in New York, New Jersey and West Virginia have proven mass mail in voting schemes lead to fraud and extremely delayed results.

As violence continues to rage in major Democrat cities across the country, Americans watching or directly affected by an increase in crime want the police to stop it. Further, the issue will impact how they vote in the 2020 presidential election.
From a new Rasmussen survey:
Voters are ready for the police to put an end to the continuing violent protests nationwide. Most also say the protests will be important to their vote in the upcoming elections.
When asked which is closer to their own thinking, 50% of Likely U.S. Voters say the police should crack down on the protests to bring them to an end.

New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy, a Democrat, announced on CNN Friday morning that his state is moving to universal mail-in voting for the upcoming November election. President Trump and Attorney General William Barr say automatically mailing all registered voters ballots is a recipe for error and outright fraud. Asked how he will prevent fraud in November, Murphy said, "You never can say you bat one thousand, but I'm pretty sure that we have a higher probability of being hit by lightning than we do uncovering voter fraud."

Americans who want to remain citizens of a united country that at least makes some desultory attempt to protect them and further their interests have no choice but to stay the course. As the saying goes, the only way out is through.
I know that some readers will lament that the Trump Administration has been a disappointment. “Where’s our wall?” I’d like to have seen more progress by now, too. “Why wasn’t he tougher during the riots and their aftermath?” I don’t know.
But it does seem clear that a few of the things we thought all along are actually true.

California has become the first state in the nation to surpass 600,000 confirmed coronavirus cases. As of Friday morning, there were more than 603,000 recorded cases. The state also has now reported over 11,000 deaths. Yet despite the grim numbers, there is growing evidence that the surge in infections and fatalities that began when California reopened its economy in May is beginning to slow. In Los Angeles County, the effective transmission rate of the coronavirus is now about 0.86 — meaning that every one infected person passes the virus to an average of 0.86 other people. The appointment of Senator Harris as Democratic candidate for vice president is a suitable final step in the increasingly goofy Joe Biden campaign, prior to next week’s virtual Democratic convention. She was a catastrophic candidate for the presidential nomination, starting out as a strong rival to the Marxist senator Bernie Sanders, and like Mr. Biden himself and all the others except Mayor Pete Buttigieg, her candidacy sank like a rock. Almost every policy question was answered with a pious assertion of the need for “a national conversation.”

Word has just reached me of the death of Wilford Brimley, a fine character actor and a friend of liberty. Brimley died Saturday in a St. George, Utah hospital of a kidney ailment. He was 85 and had not worked in films since 2017.
The news saddens me as I’ve enjoyed Brimley’s pleasing screen presence over the decades. He specialized in playing cranky but smart characters, often with a soft heart behind the bluster. To call the first interview with Kamala Harris as a vice presidential candidate a softball would be an insult to softball interviews. MSNBC on Friday aired, uninterrupted, new contributor Errin Haines talking to Harris for 31 minutes solid. This is the same networks that aired just three percent of Donald Trump’s campaign kickoff speech. Haines ignored dealing with COVID as an issue. She censored any mention of the Democrat previously saying she thought Tara Reade, who accused Joe Biden of sexual assault, should be heard. Instead, Haines gushed, “I'm just wondering about your thoughts about how this moment intersects with your own historic candidacy.”

Because the coronavirus is still spreading rapidly in much of the country, not every school district can bring children and teachers back safely and equitably this fall. But among those that can is Somerville, Massachusetts—the city of about 80,000 just northwest of Boston where my family and I live. After a biotech conference in late February spread the coronavirus in the Boston area, public officials in Somerville reacted quickly. For nearly four years, Washington foreign policy experts and Obama administration alumni warned that the Trump administration was jeopardizing any prospects for Middle East peace. By withdrawing from the Iran nuclear deal, we were told, the U.S. would alienate itself from its allies. By moving the U.S. Embassy to Jerusalem, it would inflame the anger of millions of Arab Muslims. By recognizing Israeli sovereignty in the Golan Heights, it would estrange the Arab states. By maintaining close relations with the Israeli government, it would imperil the lives of Palestinians.

Joe Biden’s attempts to pretend every good thing that happens under the Trump administration is a result of the Obama administration have become fairly expected. When it comes to the economy, we continually hear Trump isn’t responsible for the booming growth experienced through much of his term. But in relation to foreign policy, it’s a bit jarring to see the former Vice President try to take credit for a peace deal the Obama administration had no hand in at all. Yet, Biden tried to spin that narrative today.
This came after Trump brokered a historic deal between Israel and the UAE. Later in the day, Bahrain and Oman followed suit,

After looters struck downtown Chicago on Sunday night, officials literally raised the bridges to prevent rioting hordes from roaming so easily. They also blocked road access and stopped public transit. So, we have come to this: a major American city is replicating the strategy of medieval castles: flood the moats and raise the drawbridges. All that is missing are crenelated battlements and Welsh longbowmen.
In Portland, officials aren’t even raising the drawbridges. After more than 70 nights of rioting, Mayor Ted Wheeler’s strategy seems to be, “If you insist on doing this, we might write a strong letter.”

On Thursday President Trump announced a new peace deal between Israel and the United Arab Emirates. This is a major step toward peace in the Middle East. President Trump’s son-in-law and negotiator Jared Kushner later told reporters there may be more peace deals in the works. The Biden Campaign later released a statement cheering the news. Then Joe Biden took credit for the deal. These Democrats are truly shameless. Joe Biden released this statement: “The coming together of Israel and the Arab states builds on the efforts of multiple administrations to foster a broader Arab-Israel opening, including the efforts of the Obama Biden administration

The American-brokered opening of full relations between the United Arab Emirates and Israel is a rare outbreak of peace and hope in a region short of both, and a significant vindication of the Trump administration’s diplomacy. Above all, it is a testimony to the strategic courage and fresh thinking of Mohammed bin Zayed (MbZ) of Abu Dhabi in particular, but also of Benjamin Netanyahu, Donald Trump and — whether you like it or not — Jared Kushner.Thursday’s announcement is nothing less than groundbreaking. The complete and instant opening of full relations with Israel by an Arab leader is a crossing of the diplomatic Rubicon.

Sleepy Joe,” as Donald Trump likes to call him, will be the 46th president of the United States—assuming you trust CNN, MSNBC, the New York Times or the Washington Post. At 77, Joe Biden has a lifetime of dubious political experience, most notably as vice president to Barack Obama. Yet he was hardly the strongest candidate the Democrats had to offer this year.
(Snip) Biden suffers from one additional, major flaw: his evidently waning mental faculties. Many believe that Biden’s lapses are not simply the slowing down of senility, but the beginnings of dementia.

The public is mostly unaware that a key motive behind the Democrats’ impeachment effort was to criminalize any interest in the Biden family’s shady dealings with the persistently corrupt country of Ukraine. As damaging news coverage of Hunter Biden’s multimillion dollar gig with Burisma, the troubled Ukrainian energy company, escalated in the fall of 2019 and threatened to derail Joe Biden’s third run for the presidency, the Biden campaign declared open season on journalists.

Commuters driving into downtown Boise the morning of Aug. 13 may have seen a new colorful billboard sign that reads “Black & Brown Folks Built This Country / (And We’re Doing It Again) / Join Us Or Get Out Of The Way.” It’s a strong phrase, and activist/organizer Tanisha Jae Newton said they are radically unapologetic about it.
“This message is for folks within impacted communities to know that people recognize them and see them and their power,” said Newton. “These communities need hope and empowerment.”

Democratic candidate Joe Biden has been stuck in his basement all these months and now wants us all to be mandated by law to wear masks. That's his big idea.
According to CBS News:
"Every single American should be wearing a mask when they're outside for the next three months, at a minimum. Every governor should mandate mandatory mask-wearing," Biden said, suggesting that widespread mask use could save 40,000 lives over the next three months. "Let's institute a mask mandate nationwide starting immediately, and we will save lives."

On Monday, all of America reeled at the sight of Chicago's Magnificent Mile being pillaged by roaming bands of thieves, who seemed to move with abandon through the city's downtown. Just one week prior, news networks spread similar images of a shootout in front of high-end boutiques on Oak Street. To downtown residents like Gary Hebding, it was no surprise. Hebding said he has seen continued crime downtown in recent months. "This is never something I've seen before in the four years that I've lived here," he said. "Those incidents are coming here downtown, and they are happening right here

Although you wouldn’t guess it from the insanity that continues around the Western world when it comes to the Wuhan virus, we have a pretty good handle on the thing. Nevertheless, the World Health Organization seems determined to make a bad situation worse. It’s now telling people to stop going to the dentist.
With the Wuhan virus plaguing the world for almost eight months, things are getting better, especially here in America. We know that the elderly and people with co-morbidities are vulnerable and need to be protected. We’re getting more anecdotal evidence that, if given early enough, a drug combo

Hoping to vacation in Hawaii in September? You might have to rethink those plans. Given the state's rapidly rising COVID-19 case counts, officials are "looking at'' delaying the start of a much-anticipated program that would allow out-of-state visitors to vacation there without quarantining for 14 days by presenting a negative COVID-19 test, Hawaii Gov. David Ige said during a news conference late Thursday. The program, announced in June, is set to begin September 1. It was already delayed once, a month ago, due to rising cases on the mainland and in Hawaii. "If things do not get better we will

At a briefing on Thursday, Joe Biden called for a nationwide mask-wearing mandate “for the next three months at a minimum.” Never mind that such a federal mandate is likely unconstitutional, this is just one of a multitude of areas where Biden, and his running mate Kamala Harris, want to impose the federal government on even the most mundane of actions by Americans.
It is surely worth noting, especially by those who claim to value liberty, that Biden and Harris eagerly desire to take much of it away, always in the name of some greater good. Indeed, over the course

Prominent Democratic donor George Soros called President Donald Trump “dangerous” and asserted that Trump would do “anything to stay in power,” in a wide-ranging interview Tuesday with Italian newspaper La Repubblica. The 90-year-old Hungarian-American and billionaire philanthropist told La Repubblica that Trump is a “confidence trickster” who unexpectedly won the 2016 U.S. election and was inadvertently working to “undermine democracy from within,” per a translation of the interview on George Soros’ website. Well, not stolen exactly. They aren’t claiming the black people who used to live in this neighborhood were pushed out at gunpoint. But they are claiming that an injustice has taken place because white people are now living in new homes in this formerly black neighborhood. The crowd of maybe 50 people was marching down the street after dark chanting “Black people used to live here!”

The Bureau of Land Management on Thursday took a step toward development of the Willow oil prospect in the National Petroleum Reserve-Alaska, a large ConocoPhillips effort that could help revive Alaska’s sagging economic fortunes, though critics say it endangers polar bears and the climate.
The agency, releasing the final environmental review of the project, said the development could produce more than 160,000 barrels of oil daily over 30 years, helping offset dwindling oil production and state revenues in Alaska. Construction would produce more than 1,000 jobs, and lead to more than 400 jobs when it begins operating.

Neither of the current candidates, President Donald Trump and former Vice President Joe Biden, were listed as choices.

Prominent Democrats took to social media to lash out at President Donald Trump after Washington helped broker a historic peace deal normalizing relations between Israel and the United Arab Emirates.
The deal received high marks from national security experts—former White House Iran staffer and Foundation for Defense of Democracies adviser Rich Goldberg said it was "likely the greatest foreign policy achievement of any president in a generation." And national security adviser Robert O'Brien even suggested the deal should make Trump a front-runner for the Nobel Peace Prize.

A major Associated Press report this week dove into New York’s nursing home COVID-19 death count and found the numbers outright wrong.
The story was shocking. Reporters Bernard Condon, Matt Sedensky and Meghan Hoyer noted that ‘unlike every other state with major outbreaks, New York only counts residents who died on nursing home property and not those who were transported to hospitals and died there.’
But it wasn’t new. In fact, AP had sounded the alarm on the miscount as early as May.

It is no secret but public knowledge that Kamala Harris slept her way up into California political life by being a very public escort and mattress for California Democrat Kingmaker Willie Brown. Willie Brown is 30 years older than Harris and was very married at the time. It was public. It was an embarrassment.
With Joe Biden’s photo metaphorically the definition of the 25th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, voters will decide in November whether they want Harris to be their president some time in the next four years. Of almost equally significant concern is what Harris represents to hard-working women across the country who devote years to their careers

In time-honored mainstream media fashion, the Associated Press does its best to downplay President Trump’s brokering a mutual recognition pact between Israel and the United Arab Emirates by calling it a “rare diplomatic win.”
(Hello, AP, have you missed that Trump is the first president in decades to negotiate successfully with Communist China, by far our most significant adversary?)
Nevertheless, this “win,” such as it is, could be of considerable importance not only to Israel but to the international community, the part of it, anyway, that is in favor of world peace.

Joe Biden has been in the public eye for close to 50 years. His record over that time is dismal, but for some reason he has usually gotten a pass. “Good old Joe” has broken every rule in the book without suffering serious consequences. To be sure, his prior presidential runs crashed and burned when a few aspects of his gross dishonesty came to light, but his dishonorable career continued nevertheless.
Biden has feathered his nest for decades, in part by selling his influence to foreign powers, as in the case of Ukraine’s Burisma, not to mention his more worrisome Chinese connections. This would seem to be a serious offense,

President Trump continues to be his own worst enemy: On Thursday, he stooped to calling presumptive vice-presidential nominee Kamala Harris a “mad woman.”
That doesn’t promote his agenda. It doesn’t help him with women. It doesn’t shore up his image as worthy of the nation’s highest office. It’s just, as Trump would say, mean and nasty.
Sure, Harris isn’t the first target of Trump’s ad hominem attacks or over-the-top language. But making everything personal is unbecoming. It turns off voters who like his policies but dislike his rhetoric.

Thursday’s announcement of a “historic peace agreement” between Israel and the United Arab Emirates — the first deal to normalize relations between Israel and an Arab nation brokered by the U.S. in over a quarter-century — is more evidence that President Trump is the first president in a long time to get U.S. Middle East policy more right than wrong.
Under the agreement, Israel and the UAE will establish “full normalization of relations,” including diplomatic relations with the opening of embassies, trade, tourism, direct flights and other agreements. The only two other Arab nations that have diplomatic relations with Israel are Egypt and Jordan.

There are rumblings that Kamala Harris may not be eligible to be Vice President under the 12th Amendment, by virtue of her not being eligible to be President since she is not a ‘natural born Citizen’ (“no person constitutionally ineligible to the office of President shall be eligible to that of Vice-President of the United States”). It has barely been 72 hours since presumptive Democratic nominee Joe Biden announced Sen. Kamala Harris as his running mate, and the Democratic Party’s allies in politics and media are already inventing new ways to brand criticism of the California senator as “sexist.”Vanity Fair contributor and Hillary Clinton 2016 campaign flack Jennifer Palmieri, for example, alleged this week during a recent appearance on MSNBC that it is sexist to refer to Harris as a “phony."But the senator clearly is a phony. As soon as Joe Biden announced U.S. Senator Kamala Harris (D-CA) as his vice presidential pick on August 11, prominent pro-life groups immediately characterized the Democratic presidential ticket for 2020 as the most “pro-abortion ticket in American history.” Pro-life organizations like the Susan B. They enumerated reasons including the fact that Kamala Harris supports taxpayer-funded abortion up to birth, and the fact that she has colluded with Planned Parenthood to silence the abortion mill’s political enemies.

The cancer patient was old and frail, so after the examination, Dr. John D. Marshall Jr. helped the man to his car. This simple act of kindness may have cost Marshall his life. Marshall, 74, a family-practice doctor in Americus for more than three decades, contracted COVID-19 from his elderly patient, family members said.
