WASHINGTON — A former F.B.I. lawyer intends to plead guilty to falsifying a document as part of a deal with prosecutors conducting their own criminal inquiry of the Russia investigation, according to three people familiar with the case.
The lawyer, Kevin Clinesmith, 38, who was assigned to the Russia investigation, plans to admit that he altered an email from the C.I.A. that investigators relied on to seek renewed court permission in 2017 for a secret wiretap on the former Trump campaign adviser Carter Page, who had at times provided information to the spy agency. Mr. Clinesmith’s lawyers said he made a mistake while trying to clarify facts for a colleague,

He knows enough, and was instrumental in a lot of what happened.
I'm sure a few people are a little more worried today.

Part of the deal was probably to testify against whoever told him to do it.

Wow -- I actually read this article in The New York Times, a media outlet that once had esteemed status, and which I sued to read years ago. Every second word of the article constitute feeble and unconvincing attempts to whitewash an attempted coup d'état to depose an elected president.
This reinforces my belief that the New York Times is populated by maliciously motivated lying turds.
In case you need to know!

In addition to Kevin Clinesmith, Mr. Barr announced that Durham's investigation nailed Marvin Melinhede, an intern assigned to a junior associate assistant to Rob Rosenstein's administrative assistant. Mr. Melinhede was caught on traffic cameras jay walking as he returned to the office with a Starbuck's for Mr. Rosenstein. Stay tuned for further details.

The first in a long, long line of criminal indictments that no one except his mother ever, ever heard of.

Pardon second post. I'll lay off General Barr and Mr. Durham when I start recognizing the names in the INDICTMENTS. So far they are batting zero.

With such a boyish face, he's looking at a life of being traded for cigarettes in Federal prison. I'm sure he's wanting to cut a deal to avoid getting "assigned" a new gender by his cellmate, Kwame X.

You can bet that he was singing.
Now - Rosenstein signed off on those FISA warrants, too. When does HE plead guilty?

This is a SUPER easy case. The original e-mail will be available from NSA and other sources. Then the modified e-mail will have been used and then.....stuck in a box, the choice is go to prison for maybe five or six different charges, and max sentences on each, or sing like a bird, testify in court when needed and plead guilty to one count, minimum time served.
Easy choice, and then this guy becomes part of the prosecution team. The other 35 traitors need to be very worried.
I hope he loses his law license and has to ask "You want fries with that?" for the rest of his life.

Remember l'affaire Flynn? How he pled guilty to a single charge and promised cooperation? What makes anyone think this doesn't have the same intent? Clinesmith can stick with the story here, and go to jail with a felony conviction, losing his career, or he can sing. And when his sentencing is delayed, remember Flynn's promise and mutual agreement with prosecutors to cooperate. Clinesmith has some choices to make. As the first public case, it is doubtful he'll get treated nicely if he balks along the way.

Step 1. Now, how about the people that reviewed and approved the FISA application signifying that the evidence being presented was accurate and verified? Then, follow up with those that directed these activities that make up the conspiracy.

A lawyer pleading guilty to evidence altering. Disbarment easily. So not quite a slap on the wrist for an obviously minor player. Who'd he give up to get the deal.? And yes I agree, before we hit November there had better be a lot of big deal indictments.

Oh DUH, when you did the dirty and the prosecutors have your cahones in a VICE, cop a plea and work out a whistler deal...

Shipwreckedcrew at RedState opines that this “small fish” plea deal telegraphs that Durham is nearly done. SWC also has this to say - so this may not be just a “small fish” thing after all. Clinesmith would have shared all information before there was any proffer of a plea deal. His lawyer has told his story at this stage, not Durham.
In resolving a case such as Clinesmith’s, the less said, the better. Durham knows what Clinesmith as told him and that this point there is no reason for Durham to tell everyone else what Clinesmith has said.
That being the case, there is an interesting bit of information reported that I noted on Twitter. The note said that Clinesmith had told investigators that he provided the original email — the accurate email from the CIA — to the case agents and supervisors on CH. I’m digging around a bit more for that information and will update this story when I find it.
If that is true, then Durham has other subjects with regard to this specific falsehood that is traceable to Clinesmith. If the evidence is that others were aware of the false allegations about Page and the CIA that originated with Clinesmith’s alteration and never took steps to clear the record with DOJ or the FISC, then those individuals are targets as well because a knowing “material omission” of information from a FISA application would also be obstruction. Now you have the existence of a conspiracy.

Maybe this is the beginning of more. Wouldn't it be interesting if every few days there was another, then another, like a slow trickle? Each time another fish, then a bigger fish, increasing to the climax of the whole affair - up to election day? Politically that would drive the "big fish" insane and the MSM crazy. One cold only hope.... :)

I guessed it was this top lawyer who worked directly under Comey and directly for the Mueller investigation and directly for Weinstein. Fixed it. 800 lb. tuna, not a minnow.
