Hoping to vacation in Hawaii in September? You might have to rethink those plans. Given the state's rapidly rising COVID-19 case counts, officials are "looking at'' delaying the start of a much-anticipated program that would allow out-of-state visitors to vacation there without quarantining for 14 days by presenting a negative COVID-19 test, Hawaii Gov. David Ige said during a news conference late Thursday. The program, announced in June, is set to begin September 1. It was already delayed once, a month ago, due to rising cases on the mainland and in Hawaii. "If things do not get better we will

How about we all stay away from that overpriced "paradise"? There are plenty of places on the mainland that are as nice to visit, and much, much cheaper.

That ringing sound you are hearing? The sound of blue staters wringing their hands in fear.

I went there in ‘77. Even back then, it was really liberal. A hippie bum laid on his back buck naked, next to the dressing room at a popular beach at Hilo. Mothers with children had to witness this horrid sight and no police came. I thought that was some aloha! I didn’t do anything because I was pretty liberal then. Not anymore.

I just don't understand* this irrational fear of the this particular Chinese virus. Something like 99.6% of those infected with it either survive or show no symptoms. Like any flu, the elderly and those with underlying health issues are the most vulnerable.

Liberals ruin everything they touch - and it is so evident in Hawaii. After several visits between 2013-2015, we vowed to never go back.

Hawaii, your political leadership is blowing it big time. The longer you stay closed, the fewer of us will come. Just remember, Hawaii, for every retired couple like my wife and I who come every year for 2 to 3 weeks, we spend $10,000 bucks in your state. Consider that this affects your vacation rental condos, rental car business, restaurants, and excursion operators. Not to mention a complete loss of tax revenue that keeps you afloat. Soon all these services will be gone and you will find yourselves living a pretty low life. Wake up, Hawaii.

Funny, New Zealand had the same problem and it too heavily restricted travel and quarantined visitors.... and yet a NZ family who had been absolutely nowhere recently became the first confirmed cases in 102 days. 102 days and poof... new cases.
Maybe all these lock down happy experts aren't as smart as they think they are.

We are supposed to go to HI for our wedding anniversary in March. Pretty sure that is not going to happen. Even if they open back up, I don’t want my money supporting such blatant stupidity. Plenary of other beautiful places on the mainland to spend my hard-earned cash and time.

Since they wiped out their sugar cane and pineapple production, or nearly so, they depend almost entirely on tourism. Enjoy the suck. Not any kind of a fan of Hawaii.
My father was a naval officer stationed in Hawaii in the early 50s. He was assigned as the legal officer for the command he worked in. After a couple of years working with the Hawaiian courts helping USN personnel who ran afoul of the local laws, he was disgusted by the blatant anti-white racism showed by the Hawaiian judges, uniformly all Japanese and Hawaiian backgrounds. The white person was ALWAYS judged to be in the wrong, regardless of facts. He always thought that bringing Hawaii in as a state was a mistake. Maizie Hirono is a perfect example of what he saw 70 years ago. It has not gotten any better, and they have NOT assimilated, as far as I can see.

Navy buddy from my hometown got stationed out there. We were all "wow! Nice place" and he said, " nope, the locals hate the haoles" .
That said, we visited a few years ago and had a blast.

Kill Haole Day, usually scheduled for the last week of school, thankfully was cancelled. Such a long standing tradition that I had luckily endured in my youth spent in Lai’e.

A retired union member once revealed, "I was a conservative but always voted Democrat when I was working. Now I vote Republican." Most Hawaii residents are conservative, yet union runs the entire State.
If the head of the household votes Democrat, the rest of the communal living family votes Democrat. Hawaii has the largest communal living household in the nation, thus the high COVID-19 infection rate.

Brother lives on Maui. I visited him just after 9/11when he lived on Oahu. I went for the diving. Disappointing. I went to visit my brother...turned hard left. Sad.
The people were ok because we were away from the tourist areas. We bought our 'souvenirs' at the flea market and shopped at the Walmart for anything else we needed. Rented a van for transport. EVERY time we went to the east side of the bay we were treated like crap. I get it, we are encroaching on your turf. It's not like my looks are going to steal your women. I had my brother book my dives because it was a bout 1/2 cost. REALLY not worth it. Hawaii you want to be a grown up state, then act like it. You whine because people say States when they mean Mainland, but you eschew anything we might say or do. Fine, continue to let the Japanese buy you out and see how much we care. ...well we do, because you ARE our brothers, but I'd sure wish you'd realize it.

Hawaii quarantines visitors for 2 weeks but COVID cases are increasing anyways. Shouldn't it register with someone that visitors are not the problem?
