Expectations for real incomes among American public hit the highest level that the Federal Reserve Bank of New York has ever tracked in its monthly Survey of Consumer Expectations.
The central bank said that in September expectations for inflation one year ahead rose slightly to 2.48 percent from 2.41 percent a month earlier. At the same time, expectations for earnings jumped to 2.54 percent from 2.26 percent.
As a result, inflation-adjusted earnings expectations turned positive, rising to 0.06 percent. That might not seem like a huge positive but it is a record high in a metric that rarely even registers a figure above zero.
A poll released Wednesday found that 57 percent of Republicans support President Donald Trump’s decision to withdraw U.S. troops from northern Syria.
An Economist/YouGov survey shows 25 percent of Republican respondents said they strongly approve of pulling out troops, while 32 percent stated they somewhat approve of the move. A little more than three years ago, Moody’s Analytics chief economist Mark Zandi predicted that a Trump presidency would cause the economy to spiral into a recession. This week, Zandi is predicting that the strong economy could all but assure a Trump reelection. No wonder Democrats avoid the topic like the plague.
“It’s pretty clear that everyone would end up in a pretty bad place,” is how Zandi described life under President Donald Trump in June 2016. That was assuming Congress enacted Trump’s agenda, which Zandi said was highly unlikely. Zandi wasn’t alone, of course. He is, in fact, the epitome of conventional economists.

Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) said Tuesday she will not stage a vote on the House floor to officially launch an impeachment inquiry into President Trump.
The decision came after Democratic leaders, returning to Washington following a two-week recess, had reached out to members of their diverse caucus to gauge the party's support for such a vote.
After back-to-back meetings with party leaders and then the full caucus, Pelosi announced that no such vote would take place. Democratic aides emphasized, however, that the process remains fluid and that Pelosi may reverse course and stage such a vote at any point in the future.
I realize the task of checking bias at CNN is a Sisyphian one, but moderator Anderson Cooper kicked off the Democratic primary debate on Tuesday with a particularly laughable sleight of hand.
Setting up a question to Joe Biden, Cooper said, “President Trump has falsely accused your son of doing something wrong while serving on a company board in Ukraine. I want to point out there is no evidence of wrongdoing by either one of you.”

Tuesday night’s CNN/New York Times debate of the Democratic presidential candidates was filled with propositions to radicalize American society, from confiscation of law-abiding citizens’ guns to adopting Canada’s single-payer health system but somehow “we’re going to do better than the Canadians do,” as Sen. Bernie Sanders promised without extrapolating, to imprisoning executives of companies that pioneer life-saving medicines.
But, astonishingly, it also showcased casual discussion of the federal government adopting policies that would stab the Constitution of the United States in the heart – in particular those of Sen. Elizabeth Warren.

Biden defended his son Hunter Biden serving on the board of a Ukrainian energy company but failed to differentiate him from his deceased son Beau Biden, who was the Attorney General of Delaware.
Last week, the Supreme Court took up hearings on three cases in oral arguments that all came down to the definition of the word “sex.” Does it refer to male and female, as it always has in all cultures without the slightest question or debate? Or does it now include the ever-expanding rainbow of all these new gender identities and sexual orientations that people can apparently be, those we are told are totally normal and natural to human experience, but only now are recognizing and making up words for?
Such silly questions have now made it all the way the highest levels of our justice system. This is indeed concerning.

In the most recent Quinnipiac national poll, 90 percent of Democratic voters approved of the party's impeachment inquiry targeting President Trump. So the candidates gathered here for the first debate since House Democrats officially announced an impeachment effort could not reasonably be expected to oppose it. But the presidential candidates have tended to lag behind the most aggressive impeachment advocates in the House, and what was notable Tuesday night was that lag still exists; if there is an impeachment enthusiasm scale running from cautious to gung-ho, some candidates took positions on the cautious end, despite their party's headlong race toward impeachment on Capitol Hill.
The higher education system composed of “elite” institutions has failed to produce a truly educated elite to serve the nation. They have instead produced bureaucrats, financiers, and the engineers of Silicon Valley. Highly ranked and regarded institutions such as Harvard, Yale, and Princeton or “public ivies” like the University of Virginia, University of Michigan, and UC Berkeley have failed to produce men and women who are statesmen, creators, and leaders.
Students, parents, and high school administrators spend hundreds of hours and thousands of dollars to get themselves and their students into these institutions. Why?
Anyone who thinks President Trump’s victory is inevitable in 2020 is not paying attention. The entire weight of America’s profiteering elites is arrayed against him.
But what if he wins anyway? What if enough voters realize they’re being conned by the Democrats? What if enough voters decide they don’t want to feel like unwanted usurpers in their own nation? For millennia, humans have fought wars. Most of them were probably launched unjustly, wars of conquest and enslavement. Some were matters of national survival, wars in which the defending side, if it lost, ceased to exist. Then there is perhaps the worst of all: wars of sincerely good intentions.

Rudy Giuliani told House Democrats via a letter from his lawyer that he will not be complying with their subpoenas related to their impeachment inquiry. Last week, Rick Perry was also summoned and hints that he will also resist the Resistance Party's subpoenas.
The letter obtained by The Hill from Giuliani's attorney, Jon Sale, states that the subpoena is "overbroad, unduly burdensome, and seeks documents beyond the scope of legitimate inquiry."
What should be added to that list is that they're not really subpoenas anyway. They are nothing more than sternly worded letters with a request calling themselves "subpoenas." The House must vote first to authorize

Sen. Kamala Harris (D-CA) falsely claimed during the Democrat debate Tuesday night that “women will die, poor women, women of color will die” because Republican-led states have passed abortion restrictions.

O’Rourke reiterated his plan to use a government-mandated buyback to confiscate privately-owned AR-15s and AK-47s. In so doing, he claimed that each AR-15 and AK-47 in private hands is a “potential instrument of terror.”

Sen. Elizabeth Warren deservedly drew heat from several rivals over her stubborn refusal to acknowledge that implementing a $32 trillion plan to provide free health insurance to everybody would require increasing middle-class taxes. But since she keeps trying to make the same bad argument, it's worth reviewing what's so dishonest about it.
Warren, whenever she's asked about whether middle-class taxes would go up, argues that costs would only go up for corporations and the wealthy, but "costs would go down for the middle class."
Essentially, she's trying to make the case that because middle-class Americans would be getting free healthcare, their costs would go down overall.

A federal court in Texas ruled Tuesday that doctors across the nation are not required to perform gender-transition surgeries if they go against their medical judgment or religious beliefs.
The decision by U.S. District Judge Reed O'Connor reversed a mandate from the Obama administration that required a doctor to perform gender transition procedures on any patient, including a child, even if the doctor believed the procedure could harm the patient, or otherwise face penalties and legal action. In December 2016, six months after the mandate was issued, two different federal courts ruled the policy was an unlawful overreach by a federal agency and likely a violation of religious liberty.
