Federal court strikes down
Obama administration
'transgender mandate' for doctors

A federal court in Texas ruled Tuesday that doctors across the nation are not required to perform gender-transition surgeries if they go against their medical judgment or religious beliefs. The decision by U.S. District Judge Reed O'Connor reversed a mandate from the Obama administration that required a doctor to perform gender transition procedures on any patient, including a child, even if the doctor believed the procedure could harm the patient, or otherwise face penalties and legal action. In December 2016, six months after the mandate was issued, two different federal courts ruled the policy was an unlawful overreach by a federal agency and likely a violation of religious liberty.

Doctors are for making us healthy and saving lives. They are not to be forced to perform elective surgery on mentally ill people!

Nobody should be required to work against their will at any time for any reason. Let the market and the workers conscience decide. This used to be so obvious it didn't need to be said.

Interesting that "Our First Black President" was so focused on enslaving others. Interesting, that.

Bizarre mandate by Obama. Begs the question, why would anyone seek out a surgeon to operate on them that is being forced to do so against their will? On a more practical level, not every surgeon is trained or otherwise skilled at performing every surgery. One might rightly assume surgeons would simply indicate they were not sufficiently trained/versed at such an operation. The "law" is therefore political theater only.

I once heard Jonah Goldberg talk about a book in which multiple conservative and multiple liberal authors were asked to write whatever they wanted to about politics and political theory. As Goldberg told the story (or at least as I remember it), the conservative authors collectively presented an array of theoretical musings (libertarian, social conservative, natural law based, etc.). The liberal authors all wrote about how Democrats could win the next election. The Supreme Court is little bit like that. The liberal Justices march basically in lockstep towards whatever result serves liberalism. The conservative Justices seem less single-minded. Most have quirks or hobby horses that cause them,

In a secret interview, Rep. Adam Schiff, leader of the House Democratic effort to impeach President Trump, pressed former United States special representative to Ukraine Kurt Volker to testify that Ukrainian officials felt pressured to investigate former Vice President Joe Biden's son Hunter as a result of Trump withholding U.S. military aid to Ukraine. Volker denied that was the case, noting that Ukrainian leaders did not even know the aid was being withheld and that they believed their relationship with the U.S. was moving along satisfactorily, without them having done anything Trump mentioned in his notorious July 25 phone conversation with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. When Volker repeatedly

Say what you want about the Trump kids, none of them have been found with a crack pipe on them. The same can’t be said for Hunter Biden. I picked up the New York Post yesterday morning and found an informative reprint from The Intercept by Ryan Grim, who details Hunter’s dirtbaggery, including this revealing tidbit: “One particularly out-of-control bender, which included a crack pipe found in a rental car, took place while Biden was making $50,000 a month serving on the board of [the Ukrainian company] Burisma.” Therein lies one of the obvious motives for his shameless cashing in on his last name. For years he has had

Sen. Elizabeth Warren deservedly drew heat from several rivals over her stubborn refusal to acknowledge that implementing a $32 trillion plan to provide free health insurance to everybody would require increasing middle-class taxes. But since she keeps trying to make the same bad argument, it's worth reviewing what's so dishonest about it. Warren, whenever she's asked about whether middle-class taxes would go up, argues that costs would only go up for corporations and the wealthy, but "costs would go down for the middle class." Essentially, she's trying to make the case that because middle-class Americans would be getting free healthcare, their costs would go down overall.

There’s a book you can buy on Amazon called “Hillary Clinton in Wonderland,” a retelling of the Lewis Carroll classic with Hillary as the young heroine. Sound far-fetched? It isn’t. It’s real, and it works because Mrs. Clinton has been in a fantasy world since she lost to Donald Trump in the 2016 presidential election. In the months and years since her humiliating loss, she blamed James Comey, Russia, computer bots, WikiLeaks, Bernie Sanders, Facebook, Joe Biden, fake news, Twitter, voter ID laws, the vast right-wing conspiracy, sexism, Barack Obama, ageism, Anthony Weiner, white women, xenophobia, black people, the Electoral College, the DNC, misogyny, and women cowed by their husbands.

Hunter Biden came out of hiding for a long ABC News interview Tuesday morning to try to lay to rest the questions about his foreign profiteering. He failed. The main controversy centers on his $50,000-a-month position on the board of Burisma Holdings, a Ukrainian natural gas company that’s been under investigation for corruption for a decade, on and off. Why did it bring on a 44-year-old lawyer who had no experience with Ukraine or natural gas — but happened to be the son of the US vice president who was serving as administration point man on Ukraine? “I think I had as much experience as anybody else on the board …

Democratic Sen. Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts was the big winner Tuesday night in Westerville, Ohio in the most crowded presidential debate ever held. Sen. Bernie Sanders of Vermont and Mayor Pete Buttigieg of South Bend, Ind., also delivered strong performances. Former Vice President Joe Biden and the other eight candidates on stage came out the losers in the three-hour Democratic presidential primary debate. Warren’s strong performance will likely solidify her frontrunner status ahead of Biden and Sanders. She emerged the clear winner of the night by showing she was sharp and prepared as she fended off attacks from candidates who were looking to cut into her polling lead.

NEW ORLEANS – On Saturday morning, structural engineer Walter Zehner’s phone rang with news of a devastating construction collapse on a site he once worked. The plan for 1031 Canal St. had completely changed since Zehner left the project approximately three years ago, moving from a mixed use retail/residential design to what was planned to be a Hard Rock Hotel. When Zehner arrived at the downtown construction site Saturday, he saw six to eight concrete levels had collapsed, the edges hanging down the side of the building as if they’d melted. “It was a lot worse than I could have imagined,” Zehner said. “And I’ve seen the videos of the collapse
