House Speaker Nancy Pelosi thought she had a deal this week with her longtime ally, Senate Minority Leader Charles E. Schumer: She would ensure passage of a more liberal border funding bill in the House, and he would back her up by persuading Democratic senators to fight for it. (Snip) The breakdown between Pelosi and Schumer revealed the extent of the raw divisions among congressional Democrats and raises the possibility of more skirmishes to come as Congress barrels toward funding and debt ceiling deadlines this fall. President Trump’s meeting Saturday with South Korean President Moon Jae-in and surprise tweet raising the prospect of a meeting with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un offer the perfect opportunity to jumpstart efforts to persuade Kim to abandon his growing arsenal of nuclear weapons.Trump, who is wrapping up meetings at the G20 summit in Japan, tweeted Saturday (Friday night in the U.S.): “After some very important meetings, including my meeting with President Xi of China, I will be leaving Japan for South Korea (with President Moon). You don't have to exhume Dr. Hunter S. Thompson to explain the sudden turnabout that has led the previously silent Robert Mueller to accept subpoenas to testify in front of two congressional committees. But it doesn't hurt.
Fear, as the good doctor famously said, and loathing.
The fear is obvious. The Democrats and Mueller too, of course, not to mention an indeterminate number of FBI, DOJ, State Department, intel agency, and former administration scalawags are scared defecation-less waiting for shoes to drop from U.S. Attorney John Durham and Inspector General Michael Horowitz working under the steady hand of AG William Barr.

There’s a reason why you should always be skeptical of conventional wisdom when it comes to elections.Conventional wisdom said Trump should have been finished after almost every 2016 primary debate. It didn’t happen. There are many reasons for that, not the least of which is that what gets the juices flowing for beltway insiders may not appeal to normal people. Is there another example of that dynamic beginning to play out?Last night, Kamala Harris savaged Joe Biden on the topic of race in the first Democratic party debate.

As President Trump begins day-two at the G20 he happens to tweet a public message to Chairman Kim Jong-Un about a quick meet-and-greet at the DMZ. You know, if you’ve got a few minutes… LOL. (Tweet) Too darned funny….. Obviously this possibility was the subject of the letter which President Trump recently sent to Chairman Kim which the North Korean leader described as “excellent content“. Trump had this tweet timed for this moment. As we noted at the time, this was predictable.

It's not uncommon for presidential candidates to scribble down some notes or talking points on sheets of paper during a debate. It is, however, highly unusual for candidates to leave behind a sprawling journal entry of the kind found on Beto O'Rourke's lectern following Wednesday night's showdown in Miami. What follow is a (lightly edited) transcript of the document, as obtained by the Washington Free Beacon:

A perfect symbol to show how far-left and crazy the Democratic Party has become is that it was an attack line in Thursday night’s debate to say someone was a prosecutor.
Former Vice President Joe Biden, in defending himself from unfair attacks on his record on racial issues by Kamala Harris, the California senator, tried attacking back as follows: “If we want to have this campaign litigated on who supports civil rights, whether I did or not, I’m happy to do that. She spat on Trump. Being the gentleman he is, Trump declined to press charges, although the police encouraged him to do so.
The waitress was suspended, meaning she just might return to her old job once the publicity has disappeared. Therefore, according to liberal thinking,

Speaking at a Carter Center conference on human rights on Friday, the former president said a full investigation into Russian interference “would show that Trump didn’t actually win the election in 2016.”
“He lost the election and he was put into office because the Russians interfered on his behalf,” Carter said.

The U.S. Supreme Court agreed Friday to take up a dispute over President Trump’s efforts to rescind the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program.
The court will decide next term whether the Trump administration's decision to end the Obama-era program was unlawful, with a decision to be handed down by the end of June 2020, amid the heat of the presidential campaign.

Sometimes, a leftist just has to be called on his lies.
Exhibit A: New York's mayor, Bill de Blasio, who was in Miami for the Democratic debates and decided to stay around for a day, heading over to an airport workers' strike and yelling (in that perfectly fluent Spanish of his):
"Hasta la victoria, siempre!" de Blasio shouted. The phrase translates to, "Until victory, always!," and is attributed to Guevara, a key figure in the Cuban Revolution led by Fidel Castro.
"We will be with you every step of the way," de Blasio added as he spoke to the crowd.
After that, de Blasio remembered where he was, probably hearing from the locals.

California Sen. Kamala Harris said Friday that she misinterpreted a question about abolishing private health insurance at Thursday night's 2020 Democratic debate, despite the fact that she raised her hand when asked if she would eliminate it.
NBC's Lester Holt asked for the 10 candidates on stage to raise their hands if their health care plans would "abolish their private health insurance in favor of a government-run plan?"
Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders and Harris were the only two candidates who put their hands up, but Harris said Friday she does not support getting rid of all private insurance.

MSNBC Morning Joe host Joe Scarborough ripped Democrats for their performances in Thursday night's second debate, indicating they had formed a circular firing squad instead of focusing their aim on President Trump.
"Last night was a disaster for the Democratic Party," Scarborough said Friday. "My only hope is people were not watching, and I will tell you why. First of all, on policy — well, let’s talk about the goal which every Democrat believes, which is, ‘We have to beat Donald Trump.’ Right?

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — Dr. Heather Judkins just made history. Squid history.
Aboard a NOAA research vessel, The USF St. Petersburg professor and a team of explorers sent a deepwater submersible camera named Medusa deep into the Gulf of Mexico.
The cephalopod expert was asleep when the camera captured video of a marine creature that had never been seen alive in U.S. waters.
Only a handful of scientists have seen the animal alive anywhere in the world.
"I was woken up from a nap," Judkins said. "There's a knock on the door. 'Heather! Heather!' I was thinking, 'if they're waking me up for a pod of dolphins, I might not be happy

There are approximately 1 million people illegally in the United States who have been ordered to leave by a judge. These illegal aliens have had due process, their day in court, and many have even lost on appeal. They have received more protections of their “rights” by having access to America’s judicial system than an illegal alien would receive in most other countries.
The Left constantly argues that illegal aliens are Americans who simply haven’t received the proper paperwork. But we expect Americans to obey the law, and particularly to conform to judicial orders. In fact, we impose fines, sanctions, and even jail time when people fail to follow court-issued orders.

Could the 46th governor of Florida go on to become the 46th president of the United States?
It goes without saying that the excruciatingly narrow Ron DeSantis victory in the 2018 Florida gubernatorial race was one of the highlights of last year’s election cycle. But the victory did not end on election night; indeed, it had only just begun. DeSantis, more than any other Republican governor in the country, is showing the nation just how a Trumpian governor can operate in a massive swing state, with an astonishingly high level of success. In a Perfect World . . .

Here's a fact that will annoy pretty much everyone involved in the debate over illegal immigration and the border: President Obama oversaw more deportations than President Donald Trump has overseen. It's true. In 2012, the Obama administration kicked 419,384 people out of the United States, a single-year record that still stands, despite two years (and counting) of Trump framing himself as America's border-guard-in-chief. Earlier this week, Trump tweeted that he would remove "millions" of illegal immigrants if given a second term in the White House—but last year Trump managed to deport merely 256,000 people.

The Supreme Court said Friday it will review next term President Donald Trump's decision to terminate an Obama-era program that protects hundreds of thousands of undocumented immigrants who came to the US as children, setting up a potential decision in the heart of the 2020 presidential election.
A decision siding with the administration could strip protections for nearly 700,000 so-called Dreamers.
Immigration was a signature issue during Trump's first presidential campaign and will be again in the upcoming election. Democratic presidential hopefuls showed this week that they also intend on seizing on the issue, as they pledged

When one candidate enjoys an enormous lead in the polls in a field of two dozen, he's bound to be a target on the debate stage — the one person everyone has an incentive to take down a peg. And so it was that in Miami on Thursday night, in the second half of the first Democratic debate, former vice president Joe Biden became a punching bag.
It started with Rep. Eric Swalwell taking a dig at the 76-year-old Biden's age by calling on him to "pass the torch" to a younger generation.

The G20 Osaka, Japan Group Picture: (Photo) As expected the schedule of President Trump’s first set of bilateral discussions seems structured around the Indo-Pacific strategy to counter China’s expansion. In this strategy within Southeast Asia geopolitics Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe is the fulcrum for a shifting economic dynamic.President Trump hosts a bilateral with Prime Minister Abe, and then again hosts a rather unusual trilateral meeting between himself, Abe and India’s Prime Minister Modi.

He then dodged a follow-up question, and then another. Time and again, O’Rourke’s answers seemed

A new bill would calculate potential costs of reparations — and by Yahoo Finance estimates, these could reach as high as $17.1 trillion. Last week, the House Judiciary Subcommittee on the Constitution, Civil Rights and Civil Liberties held the first hearing in a decade on H.R. 40, the Commission to Study and Develop Reparation Proposals for African-Americans Act. The bill was first introduced in 1989 by former Congressman John Conyers (D-MI). Conyers reintroduced the bill each year until his retirement in 2017 — and each year, the bill languished in Congress. Older folks remember Darryl Dawkins (aka Chocolate Thunder): a massive, free-spirited NBA megastar known for backboard-shattering dunks – and for claiming to be an alien from the planet Lovetron, where he practiced “Interplanetary Funkmanship.”
No one quite knew what “Interplanetary Funkmanship” was. In retrospect, the late Thunder would have made a perfect Democratic voter.

The Supreme Court’s 5-to-4 ruling on Department of Commerce v. New York is being characterized as nothing more serious than a temporary setback regarding President Trump’s wish to reinstate a citizenship question in the 2020 U.S. Census; the administration is expected to whip up a new rationale that the high court won’t consider “contrived” and get the question in.
Unfortunately it is far worse than that, and Chief Justice John Roberts is giving further sign that he is yet another unpleasant surprise in GOP appointments to the highest level of the Judicial Branch, following in the footsteps of David Souter (Bush 41),

Bernie Sanders is offering a lot of government services, including "Medicare for all," which promises to pay for everyone's healthcare. So when he becomes president, will he raise taxes on the middle class? Sanders was offered up this question as a lead-off in the June 27 Democratic presidential debate. He blathered for a full minute without answering, then he had to be asked a second time before he finally produced an answer: "Yes, they will pay more in taxes," he said, "but less in healthcare."
OK, maybe. But this answer actually raises far more questions than it answers.
The first and most uncomfortable question was raised moments later in the same debate

John Roberts took a starring role in two major decisions today: He wrote a correct opinion on partisan gerrymandering, and a troubling one on President Trump’s effort to ask a question about citizenship on the 2020 census.
The gerrymandering issue, as far as the courts should be concerned, is simple. Under the Constitution, the legislature of each state gets to decide how congressional elections are handled, subject to any laws the federal Congress chooses to enact. It was clear to the Founders that politicians, being politicians, might draw district boundaries in ways that served their political interests. They made this the rule anyway.

Open borders
Empty the detention centers and let the children go free (where and with whom wasn’t specified)

The disclosure came Thursday when redacted transcripts of Tillerson’s testimony to the House Foreign Affairs Committee were released, the Washington Post reported.
Tillerson said he once learned that Kushner was meeting with Mexico’s foreign secretary when he happened to be dining in the same DC restaurant while the pair came up with a “fairly comprehensive plan of action” that Tillerson knew nothing about.

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- U.S. adults estimate that nearly one in four Americans (23.6%) are gay or lesbian. Gallup has previously found that Americans have greatly overestimated the U.S. gay population, recording similar average estimates of 24.6% in 2011 and 23.2% in 2015. In each of the three polls in which Gallup has asked this question, a majority of Americans estimated this population to be 20% or greater.[Graph] Americans' estimate of the proportion of gay people in the U.S. is more than five times Gallup's more encompassing 2017 estimate that 4.5% of Americans are LGBT, based on respondents' self-identification as being lesbian, gay, bisexual or transgender.

With more at stake for the front runners, the second Democratic debate Thursday night in Miami had far more fireworks than the rather tepid debate the night before.
By and large, the moderators went down a list of Democratic issues as defined by the left of the party, and the candidates largely pandered in their answers.
Interestingly when asked what issue they would bring before Congress this group of mostly seasoned politicians ducked the issue for fear of alienating one constituency over another.
