With a 7-0 win against the Houston Astros, the Atlanta Braves took the World Series on Tuesday in a remarkable turnaround from a middling performance through midsummer to the championship in November.
By taking six games to dispatch the Astros, the Braves just missed becoming the first Major League Baseball team to win eight consecutive postseason games at home; the team lost Sunday night at Truist Park after leading 4-0 in the first inning.
The teams headed back to Houston's Minute Maid Park with Atlanta leading the series 3-2.
This time there was no come back from Houston.
We’ve been talking about the upset in Virginia and what looks like a red wave sweeping through that state, at this point, with the top seats all being called for the Republicans.
But that’s not the only race that could be an upset. A bigger upset may be underway in New Jersey — my former deep deep blue state. There was no way that anyone would predict that Jack Ciattarelli could even come close to Gov. Phil Murphy; everyone thought that would be a walkaway despite the fact that Murphy is widely hated and people in New Jersey are very unhappy with all his mandates.

Virginia Democrat gubernatorial candidate Terry McAuliffe said Tuesday night that he will not yet concede the election as major news outlets have called the election for Republican Glenn Youngkin.
Major news outlets have reported that political outsider Youngkin will defeat McAuliffe in the Virginia gubernatorial election, marking a drastic transformation for Republicans ahead of the pivotal 2022 midterm elections.
However, even though Youngkin is poised to win the election, McAuliffe said Virginia should count all of the votes before declaring a winner.
“So, we still got a lot of votes to count, we have about 18 percent of the vote out,” McAuliffe said.

McAuliffe and top backers, including President Biden, sought to make the vote about the Trump, who lost the state by 10 points last year. But the race was widely seen as a referendum on Biden’s performance.

Yet now, the old conventional wisdom—that Virginia is a blue state—has to be retired. Youngkin seems to have shifted the vote by a dozen or more points, from minus 10 points to plus a few.
