New York City has elected black former policeman Eric Adams as mayor, making the Democrat the next leader of America's biggest city. The result was called by Associated Press shortly after the polls closed at 9pm Eastern Time, with less than 30 per cent of the vote counted. Adams already had a 50 point lead, CNN reported. The centrist Democrat trounced Republican rival and volunteer crime fighter Curtis Sliwa in the liberal-voting bastion to become just the second African American to lead the Big Apple.

I don't know that Sliwa would have been much good really, but I do know Adams will be much bad.

Didn't Adams brag about packing heat so he won't need any other protection, right?
This should be entertaining.

Not sure I would be pushing that African American connection too hard there, Daily Fail. Some of us are old enough to remember Dinkins.

I had not previously paid the slightest attention to the NYC election, and frankly, don't actually give a damn.
But, a brief look at Adams' comments, it sounds like he will put a great priority on crime prevention. That is very important in any place. Good luck getting the stinkhole back under control. But, Giuliani managed it, so perhaps this former cop can manage it. He says that he won't have a security detail, which sounds pretty amazing, but I'll bet he'll be armed, and have at least one backup officer with him.
If he can stop the crime....that's probably 50% of NYC's 'clear and present danger' problems. The other half will still need addressing, too.
The Supreme Court may provide a significant boost in safety in NYC, too, if they find that the Sullivan Law in NYC is unconstitutional and mandate a 'shall issue' CCW permit system, as a federal judge did in 2012. If suddenly good people in NYC could arm themselves...THAT would make a massive change in the attitudes and actions of the violent thug class towards the average citizen. Shoot a few dozen of these thugs while they are attacking people and things are likely to change, like they did in every other state where this change occurred. We won't know about this until June of next year, though.

New Yorkers will never learn and deserve what they're stuck with! Who would want to live there if given an option?

I gotta wonder if the new mayor will try to find the $800,000,000. DiBasio's wife had control over and no one seems to know where it went.

Sliwa is a good-hearted man but is a bit eccentric, even for New York. I don't envy anybody having to clean up that bloody mess.
