Americans in several states across the country – particularly in Virginia and New Jersey – vote Tuesday in the biggest election since last year’s presidential election and before the upcoming midterm congressional elections in November 2022. Voters in Virginia and New Jersey are voting on who they want to be their next governors, as well as on several important down-ticket offices.Virginia’s gubernatorial race has gotten very competitive in the final weeks, as Republican businessman Glenn Youngkin has surged in polling, riding a focus on cultural issues like standing up for parents in battles with school boards and educators.

From what I hear McAwful is not racking up enough votes in the heavily blue counties, while Youngkin is doing very well where he needs to. The VA general assembly votes could be interesting too. Dems are desperate to hold the chamber.

The New Jersey gubernatorial race was officially called for Democrat Phil Murphy Wednesday evening after the contest was deemed too close to call nearly 24 hours after polls closed. The Associated Press called the election for the incumbent governor at 6:26 p.m. in a narrow victory in a state expected to be a landslide for President Joe Biden's party. With the victory, Murphy is the first Democrat to win a gubernatorial reelection in New Jersey in more than 40 years. It was a horrendous night on Tuesday for liberals as Republicans were poised to sweep into power in previously blue Virginia and running a close race for New Jersey’s governor’s mansion. And with that, MSNBC was beside itself with DEFCON-1 levels of hysteria that showed, at least for one night, that the far-left cable journalists and pundits had learned nothing.MSNBC again turned to Rachel Maddow, Joy Reid, and Nicolle Wallace to lead their coverage from 6:45 p.m. to 11 p.m. Eastern and, quite simply, it was a rhetorical bloodbath with unhinged hatred about Republicans having “turned the suburbs” into

President Joe Biden on Wednesday attributed Democrat Terry McAuliffe's crushing loss in Virginia to Republican Glenn Youngkin on Donald Trump's fired up supporters who turned out in force in the governor's race, suggesting that even if his agenda passed before Election Day it might not have made a difference.'I think it should have passed before Election Day, but I'm not sure that I would be able to have changed the number of very conservative folks who turned out and the red districts who were Trump voters. But maybe,' the president said during a White House event on Wednesday.By invoking Trump, Biden was at least partly agreeing with his predecessor,

Less than 24 hours after arriving back in the United States, President Biden's legislative agenda suffered another loss at the hands of Republicans in Congress on Wednesday. The John Lewis Voting Rights Act, yet another Democrat attempt to hand the federal government control of America's elections, failed to secure the support necessary to overcome a Republican filibuster in the Senate. Vice President Kamala Harris presided over the latest loss for the Biden-Harris legislative agenda that came out 50 to 49, short of the 60 vote threshold necessary to move the bill forward.

This wasn’t supposed to be competitive. It wasn’t supposed to be even a race. Joe Biden heavily carried the state in 2020. Democratic Gov. Phil Murphy was supposed to cruise to re-election. I’m sure the Murphy camp hoped to have a result by the end of last night. It’s not over yet. Yes, Dave Wasserman of The Cook Political Report has called it—but it’s not official yet. It’s a close one. And even if King Murphy avoids regicide by the voters in the Garden State, there’s still a lot of bad news to glean from this race. (Tweets)

Despite trailing former governor Terry McAulife by as much as six and a half points in the RealClearPolitics polling average as late as the last week of August, Youngkin ultimately triumphed thanks to a hyper-focus on local issues and a commitment to walking the line between Trump supporters in rural, southern Virginia and wealthier suburbanites who were alienated by the MAGA wing of the party.
