Editor’s Note: This account was originally shared on the political message board “RightNation.Us” on September 11, 2003. It details the firsthand experience of “Tilly” — who miraculously lived through that harrowing day. “Tilly” was kind enough to let me share this on FTRRadio.com (on “Gillespie” which I co-hosted or possibly my own show, “Q With a View”) several years ago. I am excerpting it here but highly encourage you to read the entire account. I return to read it every year. And it always delivers a gut punch. This year, I made a point to take my time with it; to stop and visualize the directions

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) announced results from a study Friday that found unvaccinated individuals were 11 times more likely to die from COVID-19 than fully vaccinated people.
The research, spanning more than 600,000 people in 13 jurisdictions, also determined that unvaccinated populations were over 10 times more likely to be hospitalized — figures that underscore COVID-19 vaccines protect recipients from deaths and hospitalizations.
The study also showed that unvaccinated people were 4 1/2 times more likely to contract COVID-19 than the fully vaccinated.
The studies come just one day after President Biden announced a new rule

Masks, as Twitter wags have noted, are by now the equivalent of MAGA hats for Blue America. As washed-up child activist David Hogg put it last year, “I feel the need to continue wearing my mask outside, even though I’m fully vaccinated, because the inconvenience of having to wear a mask is more than worth it to have people not think I’m a conservative.”
Such statements capture an unfortunate fact about our society: We’re so politically tribalized that even our response to the pandemic says more about politics than about anything else. That’s especially true when it comes to masking.

U.S. Supreme Court Justice Stephen Breyer has a warning to those who want to remake the court: Be careful what you wish for.
In his new book, The Authority of the Court and the Peril of Politics, Breyer argues that over time, public acceptance of Supreme Court opinions, even those you may disagree with, has become a habit — a hard-won habit that has fortified the rule of law as an essential part of U.S. democracy.

The diversity office of a Maryland county planned to commemorate 9/11 by hosting a play that it said “explores themes like Islamophobia” and “expose[s] the racial and ethnic prejudices” against Muslims — in which the main Arab-American character admits he was “proud” when the Twin Towers fell, and another says America “deserved what it got.”
Howard County was set to host the play on Saturday, the twentieth anniversary of the terrorist attacks that killed 3,000 Americans. “County Executive Calvin Ball will provide opening remarks,” an announcement from the county executive and the Office of Human Rights & Equity said.

Another media scare story about Ivermectin has fallen apart, marking the third time in about a week that the media has failed when it comes to this particular drug.
This is not to say that anyone should be rushing to take the human version of Ivermectin to treat COVID-19 — that’s a decision between you and your doctor — but the way the media has covered this drug has been a disaster.
The latest failure comes from KTSM, which cited a 2011 study from Nigeria that was small and questionable to claim that Ivermectin causes infertility in 85% of men.

Social media erupted Thursday following President Joe Biden’s announcement that he will be mandating vaccination, testing, and mask requirements for not just federal employees, but many private businesses, too.
“Companies with at least 100 employees must require their employees get vaccinated or submit to weekly COVID-19 tests under a new Biden administration plan to combat the coronavirus and encourage vaccination,” The Daily Wire reported. “President Joe Biden is scheduled to outline a revamped federal strategy to address COVID-19 that includes far more invasive regulations and restrictions than the federal government has put in place to date. The glee of the coastal elites in the corporate media following President Joe Biden’s authoritarian vaccine mandates is palpable. The residents of the bubble think they are making life difficult for Trump supporters. Taking away the ability of their ideological enemies to earn a living filled them with smug satisfaction, judging by the commentary from MSNBC’s Joy Reid and others.
They seem a little too invested in the narrative the network executives have been feeding them. Since the beginning of the COVID-19 vaccine programs, it has been evident that minorities were getting vaccinated at lower rates. While the geniuses in the media believe the mandates will put the screws

The mayor of Surfside, Fla. — the site of a deadly condominium building collapse in June — is giving tenants 45 days to vacate a building he owns for repairs.
Surfside Mayor Charles Burkett released a letter late Thursday night that he sent to the residents of The Lois Apartments, according to WPLG local10.com.
In the letter, Burkett said he’s been waiting for Miami Beach to allow them to repair damage caused by Hurricane Irma in 2017, according to The Associated Press.
He also said the building will undergo the required 40-year inspection early due to the collapse of the Chaplain Towers South condominium that caused the deaths of close to 100 people.

Several victims of the tragic Surfside, Florida, condo collapse earlier this year allegedly had their identities stolen by a group of people.
As reported by The Hill, three people face several charges connected to identity theft, as announced by authorities on Wednesday. The three face accusations of stealing a minimum of $45,000, which does not include an additional $67,000 that they tried to take.
The Hill reported:
Miami-Dade County State Attorney Katherine Fernandez Rundle said in a news conference that the actions of the thieves were first identified by a sister of a deceased victim on July 9, roughly 16 days after the building collapsed.

President Joe Biden marked the 20th anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks by criticizing Americans for the anti-Muslim anger that occurred in the United States after the attacks took place.
“We also witnessed the dark forces of human nature. Fear and anger. Resentment and violence against Muslim-Americans — true and faithful followers of a peaceful religion,” Biden said in a prerecorded video published for the occasion.
The president said that the principle of “unity” in the country was endangered by the attacks but ultimately prevailed.

Harvard University was founded in 1636 in order to train an elite class of Puritan ministers. Nearly four centuries later, the school has not abandoned that mission. In a campus-wide email sent Friday, the university weighed in on an ecclesiastical controversy that has dogged the secular clergy of our own time: how to eat in public with a mask on.
"Eating and drinking together are a cornerstone of human social interaction," Harvard’s health director Giang Nguyen acknowledged in the email. But there are still "efficient" ways to "minimize the time spent unmasked and in close proximity."

Vaccine mandates are legal as long as employees can seek accommodations for legitimate medical or religious reasons, most experts say. And a survey released last month by business

I was in college when the planes hit the towers, studying that Tuesday morning before class in the student union. The woman who ran the student snack bar and I were the only people there that morning, and together we watched the second plane hit on live TV. At that moment, my stomach dropped. After the first plane hit, no one really knew what was going on, whether a small aircraft had accidentally crashed into the tower or if it had been an explosion or something else. But when that second plane hit, we knew. This wasn’t an accident. Someone had planned this. It was an attack.

Constitutional scholar Jonathan Turley called White House chief of staff Ron Klain’s recent retweet appearing to praise the Biden administration for executing the "ultimate work-around" for President Biden’s recent vaccine mandate "breathtakingly daft."
"The retweet was breathtakingly daft on the eve of litigation over the order. It is reminiscent of President Biden admitting that his own White House counsel and their preferred legal experts all said that the eviction moratorium extension was likely unconstitutional," Turley told Fox News on Friday.
"Courts will now be asked to ignore the admission and uphold a self-admitted evasion of constitutional limits," Turley added. The "problem is that the thing being ‘worked around’ is the Constitution."

Joe Biden in his 2020 basement presidential campaign made a big deal about his quest of "unity" and the importance of taking the advice of "experts."
That's now a joke. It got obvious last week when we learned he chased out two top Food and Drug Administration research scientists, both strict non-partisans (I checked), from their positions, in a string of such exits. White House interference, specifically from truth-challenged White House chief science advisor, Dr. Anthony Fauci, was what he meant by 'experts.'
Now it gets worse. Turns out a whole host of unpaid Trump-appointed advisors on departmental advisory boards, with fixed three-year terms -- at Defense, Education,

Months after a contentious court battle between the world's most valuable company and one of the world's most popular video games, a judge directed Apple to allow developers to use outside payment options, but stopped short of calling Apple a monopoly.
Judge Yvonne Gonzalez Rogers of the US District Court in the Northern District of California ruled on Friday that Apple (AAPL) had violated California's Unfair Competition Law by forcing Fortnite and its maker Epic Games to use Apple's payment systems on the App Store, with the iPhone maker extracting a 30% commission on every in-app purchase in the process. She issued an injunction prohibiting Apple from requiring that developers use

Did Jill Biden's former husband bankroll a picket line that is credited with helping Joe Biden secure an upset victory in the election for a Delaware Senate seat in 1972? That is the extraordinary claim made in a new book that revisits the role played by mob hitman Frank 'The Irishman' Sheeran in a newspaper blockade that prevented anti-Biden adverts reaching voters. The details—contained in 'The Bidens: Inside the First Family's Fifty-year Rise to Power' by Ben Shreckinger which is published by Twelve Books on Sept. 21—will reignite debate over how much Biden knew about union efforts to tip the scales in his favor.

Ronald Klain, the White House chief of staff, faced criticism on social media Thursday after he retweeted a post that seemed to praise the Biden administration for pulling off the "ultimate work-around" for a national COVID-19 vaccine requirement.
President Biden announced proposed rules that would force private-sector employers with more than 100 workers to either require them to be fully vaccinated or mandate that they undergo weekly tests. Biden referred to the mandate as a "new action plan." The rules would be enforced by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA).

As soon as President Joe Biden announced his plan for a widespread vaccine mandate to fight COVID-19, protests erupted. And rightly so. But the real reason Biden chose now to announce it is so he could claim credit for what is already happening with COVID.
In what is almost certainly a vast overreach of his executive authority, Biden declared that he’d develop “an emergency rule to require all employers with 100 or more employees, that together employ over 80 million workers, to ensure their workforces are fully vaccinated or show a negative test at least once a week.”
Of course, this mandate will raise constitutional challenges.

Joe Biden today announced sweeping new coronavirus vaccine mandates of the kind he and key administration officials have previously said they would not impose.
Biden will require that all federal employees be vaccinated, with no option for those who prefer to be regularly tested instead. More audaciously, Biden will mandate all employers with more than 100 employees to require that their employees be vaccinated or, alternatively, that the employees take weekly coronavirus tests.
The White House estimates that Biden’s new policy will affect about 80 million workers — about two-thirds of the country’s workforce. Businesses that ignore the mandate could be fined up to $14,000 per violation.
