Black progressive lawmakers on Sunday questioned the inclusivity of the freedoms celebrated on Independence Day as the White House prepared for an evening of traditional festivities. As Biden's White House readied fireworks and burgers for America's annual celebration of nationhood, progressives expressed their views on what the Fourth of July means from the Black American perspective. "When they say that the 4th of July is about American freedom, remember this: the freedom they're referring to is for white people. Racism against black Chicago residents constitutes a public health crisis within the city, Mayor Lori Lightfoot declared on Thursday. Lightfoot said in a press conference that it is “way past time that as a city” made the declaration, which followed the publication of a Tuesday report by the Chicago Department of Public Health reporting the difference in life expectancy between black and non-black residents is 9.2 years.

An event to commemorate the 100-year anniversary of the Tulsa race massacre was suddenly canceled after the three surviving victims demanded $1 million to appear and $50 million donated to a reparations fund.
Singer John Legend was to host the event with the keynote address given by Georgia race activist Stacey Abrams. Other events associated with the commemoration will proceed as scheduled and Joe Biden will be in Tulsa on Tuesday.
Attorneys representing the survivors had originally agreed to a $100,000 appearance fee for each survivor and $2 million in reparations.
Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen just made a punk out of Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg. Yellen lobbied the business community Tuesday to help foot the bill for President Joe Biden’s more than $4 trillion American Jobs Plan and American Families Plan, which include every wish list item proposed by the Democratic Party going back nearly 50 years. Arts and crafts giant Hobby Lobby faced a backlash after it ran a full-page advertisement on July 4 in several newspapers across the U.S. that appeared to call for a Christian-run government. The advert, which Hobby Lobby ran in newspapers on Independence Day, was titled "One Nation Under God," and included the Bible verse "Blessed is the Nation whose God is the lord," as the company also posted about its campaign on its social media pages.

The date of July 4th is the anniversary of the colonies declaring their Independence from the British crown. This was at a time when most countries in the world were governed by hereditary monarchies. In the context of the times [1700s] this was a monumental step in the western enlightenment ideas of people having individual rights and citizen self-government rather than being ruled by a king as subjects. Nobody is claiming that July 4, 1776 is the day that every problem of the world was suddenly solved. Sorry that reps. Bush and Waters are too stupid to recognize this. So in their ignorance they sanctimoniously preen and attempt to make the occasion all about themselves. I would still like to hear either one of these idiots explain why large numbers of people-of-color go to great lengths to try to move here if it is such a ''systemically'' racist white-supremacist hellhole. Also, like to hear it explained why there is a lack of immigration in the other direction; from the oppressive US [where they are not free] to black majority/black governed countries in Africa and the West Indies.
