Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) was criticized on Twitter after she said that the “ethos” of the G.I. Bill that gives military personnel the option to go to college for free should be applied to everyone. “Imagine what it would do for our country and those who live here if we were to take the ethos behind the original G.I. Bill and apply it to everybody—canceling all student debt and making public colleges, universities, and vocational schools tuition-free.”

Those eligible for GI bill benefits earned them by giving several years of their lives and in many cases their health and parts of their bodies to their country. If those with large student debts wish it, the military recruiting offices are always open.

The stupidity of 'Congress critters' and especially the America haters is beyond comprehension for most normal Americans. This is the same fool that wants free health care for all. She doesn't understand that seniors pay between $9000 and $12,000 per year per couple for 'free' health care.
There should be a mandatory civics intelligence test before a citizen can qualify to run for office. That might eliminate some of the 'intelligentsia in the Democrat field before we get to a Primary election.

Why doesn't she start a non-profit to offer free education. People can contribute as they see fit.

I earnestly hope that, after the 2020 election, the President directs the FBI and the IRS to accelerate their investigations of this corrupt Muslim wench who doubtless committed multiple frauds to obtain citizenship. She should be stripped of her citizenship, thrown out of Congress, and sent back to Somalia where, owing to her family's previous allegiances, she will probably be executed.

Warren wants to screw those individuals who paid off student loans (myself) and families that saved for their children's education (myself x3). Now AOC offers the ultimate screw job regarding veterans. Not only crazy, but blatantly disrespectful. Ethos?!?! What person, other than a pedantic fool, even uses that word?

Imagine what it would do for our country and those who live here if we were to take all the illegal, freeloading, criminal dirt-bags and immediately deport them.

Aside from being morally repugnant (for devaluing the sacrifice of service in the military and risking life for country), this idea is economically retarded (for ignoring the consequences of unrestrained growth of costs).

This is an earned benefit that I am happy to contribute toward. NOTHING IS FREE. Everyone else can work and save or go after scholarships and grants and pay back what is not covered. I am so tired of these people deciding they want to confiscate every cent I earn so they can buy votes.

When ILLhan 0mar can convince all the professors, administrators, and other support staff to work free;
When ILLhan 0mar can convince the people who own the land upon which the colleges stand to provide the land free;
When ILLhan 0mar can convince the people who build the buildings, and those that provide the construction materials to do so free;
When ILLhan 0mar can convince the utility companies that supply the utilities to do so free;
When ILLhan 0mar can convince the textbook publishers to supply the books free;
When ILLhan 0mar can convince the suppliers of food to the cafeteria , and the people who prepare it to do so free;
Then we can have a discussion about providing a college education to all who want it free.

I agree with the ethos that everyone should be required to serve in the military for four years and get an honorable discharge then they can get GI Bill benefits.

Free health care?
Even when you look for a doc taking new patients and the office says they’re NOT taking new patients with Medicare?
What good is FREE health care when the doctor refuses to see you because he or she gets STIFFED for payment?
We seniors know how Medicare sucks.
So even if it’s FREE it STILL sucks!
Sober up!

Going to college on the GI Bill isn’t free. I went to grad school using a fellowship, a part time job delivering furniture and the GI Bill to make ends meet.

I don't think college professors and administrators will work pro bono. Nice people won't give universities land and free buildings. Colleges will have to be selective if admissions standards change to reflect scarce resources. Maybe that free education won't be a plum anyone can pluck from a tree. Be careful what you wish for, liberals.

I put four kids through college with only a small personal loan and by scrimping and saving. We didn't take vacations while they were students, drove old, used cars until the wheels fell off, ate out only rarely and Scrooged on everything else. I don't regret it. All four have degrees and are doing fine today. People like us would be royally screwed if student loans were forgiven and free college for everyone would bankrupt this almost broke country. Talk about inflation if the US printed money to finance this foolishness. I have a hundred trillion dollar (yes, trillion) Zimbabwe note that I bought online and keep handy to show where we would be headed if any of these brain-dead Democrats were to get in full control. When that note was issued, it was officially worth forty cents US.

It IS available to everyone. You serve in the military, you put your part of the money in, you get college money.
And if you are a Texas Vet, once you use up your GI Bill benefit, you can apply for the Hazelwood Act, which does not have a time limit on it.

I earned my G.I. Bill by working my arse off at half the pay I could have made in the civilian world. I took a big pay-cut joining the Army, and accepted the fact that I could die before getting seeing $1 of that benefit.
Not everyone needs a college degree to make a decent living. College degrees are mostly overrated these days. After WWII it was understandably the path to good jobs, but today they're as common as popcorn at the movie theater.
America has too many institutions of "higher learning" spitting out worthless leftist grads bound for a 12 year restaurant gig, and way too few vocational schools putting out tradesmen and craftsmen answering the real needs of a society.

Whining does not qualify as doing something for your country that would get you a free education....there's nothing special about you just because you showed up on the planet to suck up air and food. The GI's DID do something for their country.

1: Human wisdom says that if everybody is somebody then no one is anybody.
2) I remember reading in my undergraduate days that one of the causes for the rise of fascism in its various forms and color, is to have a large cohort of well qualified people who cannot obtain a job commensurate with their academic qualifications. They will all turn against the society which duped them into wasting their time, effort and energies in vain.

With this stupid statement she not only shows her contempt for the US Military, but further illustrates her idiocy and incompetence. The Montgomery GI Bill that was in place when I was in the service, you had to deduct money from your pay during your time of service. After an honorable discharge the veteran would qualify for $1,564 per month over 36 months (as a full time student) if used within 10 years of discharge. This isn't some "Free" give-away program. It was an earned benefit that was offered to induce enlistment. She really must be too stupid to recognize the difference between veterans' benefits that are earned and free giveaways to irresponsible fools who took on too much debt in an attempt to obtain a worthless degree that they could not afford.
