The Internal Revenue Service is facing a backlog of 35 million unprocessed tax returns, according to a government watchdog, as the pandemic and economic relief efforts combined to overwhelm the agency and force some people to spend hours chasing their overdue refunds. The National Taxpayer Advocate (NTA) submits two reports to Congress each year: an Annual Report, delivered in January, and an Objectives Report, delivered in June.In its most recent report, the NTA states: 'It was perhaps the most challenging filing season taxpayers, tax professionals, and the IRS have ever experienced.'One of their most important phone lines - the 1040 customer support lines for individual tax returns - reported that only
Not to worry - Plugs wants to increase the size of IRS by some obscene amount to punish anyone who didn't vote for him.

Employees have to come to work to work. Getting paid for sitting home is not working.

Democrats are trying to overwhelm the system. They want it all to collapse. Until you accept this premise, you cannot understand what is happening inside and outside our government. Democrats see the victory they always sought and nothing will keep them from claiming it. Whatever it takes is whatever they will do. The only thing that is preventing them from using physical force is the second amendment. However, if things begin to turn against them, they will allow the violence we see in democrat run cities to spill over into our communities. Never underestimate the evil that lies in the hearts of these communists.

Priority is NOT processing tax returns, it is vote-buying. The IRS has issued checks to almost every person in America - not once, but three times within 12 months. Now they are getting ready to send out new vote payments EVERY month to all the single moms who are kept women of the government as well as to most of the married birthing people (advance child credit payments). Thanks to these "free money" payment schemes, people who earned no income had to start filing "tax returns" showing no tax due in order to get their names into the system to collect their COVID money ("Economic Impact Payments or "EIP") and stay in line for any future government give-aways. They are so busy giving away money, there is no time to process tax returns.

My son and his friends have been waiting 3+ months for their returns. They earned their money but I guess it's more important to give money away to those who didn't.
Lesson learned...file early!

The lesson that should be learned is to adjust your withholding to end up owing a bit at the end of the year. Don't give them an interest free loan for a year and expect them to be in a hurry to give you your own money back.

It seems the Federal employees quit going to work during COVID and are not rushing back to work, while getting full pay, Nice for them, So if we had any kind of leader in the White House they would not be getting paid to stay home.

The wrong questions are being asked of the IRS. Ask how many conservatives have been audited? How many conservative groups have been denied tax exempt status? How many IRS employees are Democrats and gave to Dementia Joe's campaign. The IRS is the tax enforcement arm of the Democrat party. Ask questions about the IRS''s true mission and I bet they are performing close to 100%

I usually end up owing taxes, but this year, I screwed up and ended up with a refund. I filed early (in mid February) but it still took over two months for the refund to show up. #14 is right - don't overpay taxes to get a refund. You're just giving the Feds an interest-free loan. Figure out another way to accumulate money.

D.C. is worse than California when it comes to lockdowns for the Chinese virus. Government employees are still working from home, and D.C. in general is still acting like what the country looked like a year ago.

#12 - Welcome to the club. Our grandson filed in late February, really needed his refund.
Every 6 weeks since then, he has received an IRS letter telling him that it will take another 6 weeks to deal with his return. So far, 3 letters (and counting.)

Are they blaming the delays on Covid? Its hard working at home and having to fit your work into commercial breaks during the soap operas and favorite TV shows while "working" from home. Government workers need to return to the office and start earning their money instead of reclining on the sofa eating bonbons and surfing the internet. Having dealt with local government employees who continually whine about how hard they are working from home and how hard they have it, I am amazed at how little work they are actually getting done. When questioned why they can't get their work done, they are so offended and blame it on Covid. Covid does not make you make miss deadlines, not complete assignments, and just generally be lazy! Working from home is great, if you are actually working!

I've heard that late refunds are paid with accrued interest, but the next year that interest is taxable as income! Clown USA at its finest. Massively simplify the tax code, easing the time and cost burden on filers and eliminating the cost to taxpayers of checking returns? Of course not; relatively small numbers of high-paid and influential tax lawyers, tax accountants, and unnecessary federal employees are far more important than the hapless citizenry, who exist merely as a source of revenue for others.

Our tax accountant warned us the refund could be delayed a couple weeks. But it's been several months now. They've had 3 holidays in the past 5 weeks - Memorial Day, Juneteenth, and Independence Day. I suppose they will soon get an August holiday as well.

There should not be a problem with IRS service to the public. Remember, Obama hire 16,000 IRS agents to manage the Obamacare folks to collect fines from those that did not sign up for Obamacare insurance. Remember the IRS was politically active against the Tea Party. The IRS has a union and people cannot be fired for sloppy work or no work at all during the day. IRS employees come into work, get their coffee and breakfast, consume the coffee and breakfast, look after each other's personal welfare, sort out papers that should have been sorted the day before and then finally start the day's work.
