A video posted to Instagram captures yet another brazen act of shoplifting in San Francisco, this time at the luxury department store Neiman Marcus where at least ten people stole armfuls of designer goods and then fled without anyone trying to stop them. The footage reveals the shoplifters leaving the Union Square store, each carrying bags of stolen items with the security tags still dangling off of them. The perpetrators then ran in different directions, with a few speeding away from the scene in a white sedan.(Snip)The city’s surge in such incidents arose almost immediately after the passage of Proposition 47, a ballot referendum

Next election. San Francisco residents will vote for more democrats because the ones they voted for the last time couldn't control looting or the homeless. The new bunch of leftists that will be voted in will control the looting and solve the homeless problem much better. If not, then another group of demoslut leftists will be voted in the fix the problem.

Without reading the whole DM rant, it may come as a jolt to reporters that the goods have to be carried outside the store before it is considered to be shoplifting. I know, I know….they smashed cases and grabbed. They still have to be apprehended OUTSIDE the store. In this case, they’d have been long gone before police got there and unarmed store security would have been put in danger by their number.
This is not new. It has been going on in stores - Apple Stores, for ample - for a long, long time, and not just in San Francisco, nor in California, but all over the country in high end stores.

So a gang of feral people each steal $949.99 in goods and are allowed to walk away scot free. Now if they do this several times per day, several times per week, that's a pretty good payout. Retailers and the public are helpless to stop this thanks to the useless criminal loving DA's and neutered police departments. If anyone were to dare try to stop the thefts, they would be accused of racism. Anitfa and BLM would be protesting at their doors for discriminating against "shoppers of color".

Re #2, I was mistaken. The definition of shoplifting has changed since I was in retail years ago. Here is a pretty good rundown:

This crowd fit the definition, but became Catch Me If You Can-ners...

This represents the breakdown of civilization in San Francisco. This insurrection that was sanctioned by the ruling class also imposed a de facto habitual criminal tax on the law abiding.

Neiman Marcus appears to be (IS?) WOKE, so if Neiman Marcus doesn't care if they get ripped off why should I care?
People are mobile, they can shop anywhere they wish. Even if they live in San Francisco they don't have to buy high end products in San Francisco. Pay the shipping and shop online. Let San Francisco brick and mortar go belly up. It's obvious that no one cares.

More black victims of racist America. s/o
Don't think for a minute that BLM, the black community, the democrats, white guilt liberals, general woke folk or the other plethora of idiots ignoring or providing excuses will call out the feral youth of these cities.

No retailer at any point on the spectrum will be able to stay in business under these conditions. Big cities like SF used to draw tourists just for the high-end shopping. Amazon and the like have cut into that, but the legalized looting will finish it off. One less reason for outsiders to spend in the city, and lots fewer places for San Franciscans to buy what they need.
But as long as Nancy can get her ice cream, nothing will change.

No problem. Shoplifting and corporate income taxes are just part of the cost of doing business and are incorporated into the prices charged to customers.

When all the businesses leave, SF will become a ghost town. Is this what Democrats are all about?

In a retailer's term, this is called "shrink". At some point when the shrink rate diminishes the NOI, the store closes and solves the shrink problem. Store will reopen in a less crime riddled area.

‘You can’t fix stupid,’ is not just a catch-phrase, it is a succinct statement of a state of mind. One that neither knows nor wants to know what is real and what is not. Stupid is not lack of intelligence, very intelligent people can be amazingly stupid. If actual malevolence is not at play in proposing and passing these ridiculous propositions, at the very least it is because of gross stupidity and unfortunately that cannot be fixed. We can only hope these stupid people do not pull up stakes and move our way.

Literally within weeks of the passage of Prop 47 (who VOTED for that?! I didn’t! Insane!!) property crime increased in my South Bay neighborhood. When the police were approached about increasing patrols their response was, essentially, we still lived in a very safe neighborhood because so few FELONIES were committed! What - do they think we are stupid? Three weeks earlier stealing my TV WAS a felony!
Few locals like to go to SF to shop or anything - car break-ins are astronomical in the city. Why drive to SF to have stuff stolen when you can just have your car broken into in your own driveway? Sheesh!

This was the Union Square store, so the argument about retailers wanting to close stores in high-crime neighborhoods falls flat in the city of San Francisco. Way to go, Mr. District Attorney.

If shop lifting is legal can armed robbery be far behind. Armed robbery is just resisted shoplifting. Can murderous retribution for all the centuries of wrongs be far behind?

Maybe they're upset because the looting is going on in the wrong neighborhoods? Target and Walmart are fair game but their stores? Their neighborhoods? That's not the way it's supposed to work. They are open minded liberals up until their ox is gored.
My husband did some monthly routine maintenance on a very very, high end boutique on Michigan Avenue in Chicago. They were paying $4000 per month for his work. After two smash and grabs and last summer's riots, the ladies will have to shop elsewhere for their accessories. That store be gone.

Here's some rocket science for ya. Close the stores, permanently. You can't begin to tell me you're profiting when your display cases are smashed and your high end products are stolen. Shut em down, board so up. What's so hard about that? Easy peasy.

Hey Cali! You bought it so you OWN IT. The best way to turn a liberal into a conservative is to subject them to some crime. Idealism flies right out the window when it's your face being pounded into the pavement.

What do you expect from a political party that is willing to pull boxes stuffed with ballots out from under a table after sending everyone home? The theft that occurred on video did not happen and will not be prosecuted.

Perhaps the answer to this is to have security check/identify/authorize every person entering the store. It might be nice to shop at NM or Nordstrom’s without the riff raff…

San Francisco voters demanded the law that allows people to steal, in the name of Equity, but now they're tired of all the shoplifting. This is a clear-cut case of racism, since People of Color seem to comprise all such incidents caught on camera.
