Three cheers for the Senate filibuster rule, which requires 60 votes to move a bill forward. Were it not for that, Democrats might’ve succeeded in ramming through a sweeping bid to federalize nearly all national election rules — mostly to benefit themselves. Only 50 senators, none Republican, voted last week to advance the misnamed, 900-page “For the People Act” — 10 votes short of the requirement. The House had already passed it, again with not one Republican vote. The bill would’ve restricted voter-ID requirements, blocked states from purging ineligible voters, ushered in public campaign-financing

The U.S. military has conducted defensive precision airstrikes against three facilities near the Iraq-Syria border region Sunday evening. According to Pentagon Press Secretary John Kirby, the facilities are used by several Iran-backed militia groups engaged in unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) attacks against U.S. personnel and facilities in Iraq, including Kata'ib Hezbollah (KH) and Kata'ib Sayyid al-Shuhada (KSS). "As demonstrated by this evening's strikes, President Biden has been clear that he will act to protect U.S. personnel. Given the ongoing series of attacks by Iran-backed groups targeting U.S. interests in Iraq, the President directed further military action to disrupt and deter such attacks," Kirby added.

Donald trump is a man consumed with grievance against people he believes have betrayed him, but few betrayals have enraged him more than what his attorney general did to him. To Trump, the unkindest cut of all was when William Barr stepped forward and declared that there had been no widespread fraud in the 2020 election, just as the president was trying to overturn Joe Biden’s victory by claiming that the election had been stolen.

The economist Thomas Sowell distinguished himself in the early 1970s as a critic of the traditional civil rights leadership, but in earlier decades he had been optimistic about the direction of the civil rights movement. Sowell was born into an extremely poor family in rural Gastonia, North Carolina, during the Great Depression and raised in a New York City ghetto in the 1940s. Like many other blacks of that time and in those places, his family was uneducated. The men mostly worked as laborers or in the service sector, and the women typically were domestics. Racist laws had reduced opportunities for black Americans and thus limited their upward mobility. CORRECTION*

Maybe I’ve been too engrossed in Charles McCarry’s wonderful spy novels, but this week the story of the disappearance of Chinese vice-minister of State Security (the Guoanbu) Dong Jingwei strikes me as the most fascinating report of the week. While we are unlikely to get the full story for a while -- if ever -- I think he’s in the U.S. under deep cover and that has to concern both the leaders of China and any CCP operatives there may be in the Deep State. Background As the rumor goes (first reported in Spy Talk), Dong and his daughter, Dong Yang, in mid-February defected by private plane out of Hong Kong

After claiming to be “personally” offended over accusations the drag queen-loving U.S. military is woke, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Army Gen. Mark Milley said, “I want to understand white rage, and I’m white.” Oh, okay, because that’s not woke at all. This happened during congressional testimony on Wednesday. Then he added this bone-chilling explanation: “What is it that caused thousands of people to assault this building and try to overturn the Constitution of the United States of America?” The implication being it was “white rage.”

The Biden administration’s ineptitude when it comes to the crisis on the nation’s southern border has resulted in a growing problem Americans have taken notice of.A new Harvard/Harris poll found that a whopping 80 percent of participants said that illegal immigration is a serious issue and needs more attention than what President Joe Biden or Vice President Kamala Harris are giving it.The survey participants are not wrong. It took Harris, who also serves as Biden’s border czar, 156 days to make a trip to the border despite the ongoing crisis. She didn’t go in April when detentions reached a 21-month high of more than 178,000. and she didn’t immediately address

Critical race theory may be the most controversial idea in circulation today. A Rorschach test for the American people, many view it as little more than an expensive racket to excoriate white people.Whatever your thoughts, it’s certainly divisive. The country is now more divided than at any point in recent history; further division is the last thing America needs. Unity is what is required. Not some sort of Marianne Williamson-inspired, flowers in our hair unity, but a commonsense sort. Whether our country can recover political unity will depend on the United States remaining a safe, functioning, sovereign nation. That seems like a goal worth rallying around.

Early on June 17, Elsa Mikeska was shot and killed outside a Houston gym. The 62-year-old grandmother had just pulled into the gym parking lot when two men in an older Chevy Suburban got out, apparently demanding money, and then shot her dead as she fled toward the gym entrance. At this point, one of those responsible, a 16-year-old now charged with capital murder, has been apprehended, while two others remain at large. It appears that the same persons who killed Mikeska may have attempted a carjacking an hour earlier and that same night shot through the window of a nearby home — into the bedroom of a 16-year-old

Technically speaking, Donald Trump is a loser. After all, it’s Biden who’s occupying the Oval House. But let’s not get entangled in technicalities. Forty-one percent of Americans believe that Trump actually won the election and that Biden’s ascension was the result of fraud, with over half of Republicans holding that belief. And as Biden has managed, remarkably swiftly, to destroy the border, the economy, the military, education, and more, worried patriots are redoubling their support for Trump. So, when Trump, the man who didn’t win, calls a rally, thousands upon thousands of people show up. And the people who attended the rally in Wellington, Ohio, got vintage Trump.
