The bishop of the Catholic Diocese of La Crosse is responding to a video of one of its priests attacking Catholics who are Democrats. The video, posted to Youtube already has almost 400,000 views. Attorney General William Barr on Wednesday defended his Justice Department’s request to replace President Trump’s lawyers and defend him in a defamation suit brought by advice columnist E. Jean Carroll, who accused him of rape.
On Tuesday evening, the DOJ filed a motion requesting to intervene in the case and said Trump was “acting within the scope of his office” when he last year accused Carroll of “totally lying” when she claimed Trump raped her in a Bergdorf Goodman changing room in the mid-1990s.

The logo-less photo aired on CNN Monday night during a special called "Fight for the White House: Joe Biden's Long Journey." A campaign aide told Fox News the logo was removed from the photo because it is "copyrighted" and claimed that such a step is "a very common practice on campaigns." Less than a day after saying the door-to-door candy grab is banned due to coronavirus concerns, county officials changed course and said the popular children’s tradition is now just “not recommended.”
The revision came after parents and businesses “went apoplectic with outrage,” Deadline reported, citing a press briefing by LA County Public Health Director Barbara Ferrer.
Also not recommended — but no longer outright banned — are LA’s popular “trunk-or-treat” events, in which costumed kids go car to car instead of door to door.

While the media focus on the chaos in American cities and the COVID-19 shutdowns, you might have missed this good news on the energy front: The federal government just approved a new, smaller, safer nuclear power plant design, putting nuclear back on the nation’s menu of energy choices.
It might not seem like much, but until this decade, the last nuclear power plant built in the U.S. was 1977. Today, there are an estimated 96 nuclear power plants producing 20% of all our electricity and half of our non-carbon-based power.

DENVER — A burst of wild September weather brought a “climate crisis” warning Tuesday from Al Gore as Californians struggled with heat and wildfires, Atlantic storm trackers raced through the alphabet and Coloradans traded their flip-flops for snow boots.
California firefighters fought to contain 23 active fires that charred a record 2.3 million acres as the state headed into the peak of its fire season fueled by a heat wave. On Sunday, the Los Angeles County town of Woodland Hills set a record at 121 degrees.
“It reached a record high of 121 degrees F in LA county over the weekend,” Mr. Gore tweeted Tuesday.
There were rolling blackouts in California last month on two consecutive days. The reason for the blackouts wasn’t a mystery. There was a heatwave across the region and as the sun went down and California’s solar generation started to fade, the California Independent System Operator (Cal ISO) simply couldn’t find enough power from other sources to meet the demand. The blackouts were ordered to prevent the entire grid from entering a brownout. Several outlets including NPR and the Wall Street Journal made the point that California’s push for green energy was partly responsible for the situation.

The Los Angeles County Department of Public Health announced a ban on door-to-door trick-or-treating, carnivals, festivals, live entertainment and haunted houses.
"Door to door trick or treating is not allowed because it can be very difficult to maintain proper social distancing on porches and at front doors especially in neighborhoods that are popular with trick or treaters," officials said in a news release detailing guidelines for the annual tradition.
Utah Sen. Mitt Romney said President Trump was "wrong" to claim that U.S. military generals want to be at war to help bomb manufacturers make money.
