The bishop of the Catholic Diocese of La Crosse is responding to a video of one of its priests attacking Catholics who are Democrats. The video, posted to Youtube already has almost 400,000 views. A video by Father James Altman, the Priest at Saint James the Less Catholic Church here in La Crosse, is causing mixed reactions by those who have seen it.(Snip)Now the Diocese of La Crosse is weighing in, at one point supporting Father Altman’s attempt to bring attention to important issues.(Snip) On the other hand, clearly stating they are unhappy with his approach and some of his message.

#1 - The bishop at first supported Fr. Altman, but is now "unhappy with his approach and some of his message." What has made the chancery unhappy is Fr. Altman called out the Democrats by name and tied the millstone of abortion around their necks. Usually the few priests who talk about abortion never mention Democrats by name, preaching only that abortion is evil without tying it to the political party that is its proponent. Fr. Altman dispensed with that dance and took the baby killers straight to the mat.
I'm deep inside blue territory where people still believe Democrats are for the people and Republicans are for Wall Street and big corporations. I know so many faithful Catholics who vote Democrat like they buy Tide detergent. Its the brand they have always bought. There is a strange hangover from JFK being a Catholic and a Democrat. They believe abortion is murder, a sin and a grave evil. They would never do such a thing themselves, but believe they have no right to impose their morals on other people. So, they put abortion into a little box and set it aside while continuing to vote for Democrats. The howls we hear are from the evil spirits seeking the ruin of souls. They cannot have legacy Democrat Catholics unwrap that abortion box.
We desperately need more Fr. Altman's and bishops that will support them.

There are two bishops involved. The first, Bishop Joseph Strickland of Tyler, Texas supports Pastor James Altman and has, according to a different publication, doubled-down on that support; however, the second bishop is William Patrick Callahan of the La Crosse Diocese, where the priestand he is attempting to “remedy” the diverse reactions to the truthful and welcome vide by Pastor Altman.

#3- Computer acting up requiring correction; should read: “... the second bishop is William Patrick Callahan of the La Crosse Diocese, and he is attempting to “remedy” the diverse reactions to the truthful and welcome video by Pastor Altman.”

Can a ‘practicing’ Catholic prayerfully tell me/us how they can justify voting for people who do not believe, nor defend, God’s Holy commandment,
"You shall not murder. (Exodus 20:13, ESV).
Thank you.

It appears that we have two types of Catholics in the US. Roman Catholics and Pelosi Catholics.

#3 - Thank you for the clarification about there being two bishops involved.
#6 - They truly believe that they have no right to impose their religious moral beliefs, as law, on the country as a whole.

Our country legislates morality all the time. If you rob a bank, you go to jail. If you kill someone with your car, you go to jail. Abortion should not be treated any differently.

Not surprising, of course. He spoke the truth and named names (including James Martin, McCarrick, and others). The Church leadership is effeminate and cowardly. The shrieking from the pro-aborts must have been deafening.
The RCC has come to stand for nothing (Robert Barron really disappointed me by not condemning the BLM rioters). No wonder the Church is hemorrhaging members in the USA.

There are loads of bishops who are registered Democrats. Just like some politicians, many of them should have term limits as well. They can read the Democrat platform. It does not promote life.

Today, more than 28% of Black pregnancies end in abortion. If Black Lives Matter, and if the Gospel of Jesus Christ was truly proclaimed by the church, this would not be so. The church has failed in it's most important duty to proclaim and defend moral truth.

#12, the percentage of black pregnancies which end in abortion is over 40% nationwide with numbers as high as 60% in places like NYC.
In my 30 years as a Catholic convert, I have only ever heard one priest address abortion and he roundly condemned it. He was the pro-life coordinator for the diocese. He was also a former democrat who said that the party left him, not the other way around, when it went full leftist.

I converted to Catholicism in 1985 and all 3 of the priests in my parish since that time fully supported the church's position on Life. Two were very vocal; the third was not but always allowed Respect Life initiatives and participated in them. I just don't understand these bishops not supporting their priests who speak out for pro-life issues. Maybe because of fear of tax-exempt status???

I'm not Catholic, but I saw his message and he is so correct. How can you follow Christ and support abortion?
Democrats are OK with abortion, not so for Republicans.

The Diocese believes on issues contradictory to the teachings of Jesus Christ and the Catholic Church that inviting dialogue is appropriate; however, the priest’s conjecture and denunciation was objectionable and does not represent the Catholic Church’s values or “the life of virtue.” It appears that if the priest does not amend his message, the Diocese may have the final word. May the priest be blessed and kept safe: “Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in your sight, O LORD, my rock and my redeemer.” (Psalm 19:14)
