The novel coronavirus pandemic couldn’t shut down Target, but the rioting ripping apart major U.S. cities has. The U.S. retailer said Sunday that more than 100 stores nationwide, including 33 in Minnesota, would be closed after a fifth night of violent protests in Minneapolis, spurred by Mr. Floyd’s death Monday in police custody. “We are heartbroken by the death of George Floyd and the pain it is causing communities across the country,” said Target in a statement. “At this time, we have made the decision to close a number of our stores. We anticipate most stores will be closed temporarily.”

Comments:

How dare Target deny hammer-wielding joggers an avenue to express their outage. Many more Diversity training sessions required!

I expect that Target's primary objective here is to keep their employees out of the way of the looters. I think also that stores which get trashed might not be reopened.

It is somewhat ironic that Target comes down on the liberal side of just about every publicized issue. The rioters obviously don't have sense enough to know this----or they don't care and are just looting. (I'd bet on the latter.)

It’s ironic that Target has become a prime Target for the criminal rioters to burn down and loot, as Target was owned, and maybe still is owned by a very liberal family from Minnesota, that always has supported very liberal causes! It just goes to show how stupid the criminal rioters really are, to willingly allow anarchists and other groups holding extreme leftist views to get them to burn down and loot the grocery stores and other critical businesses that used to serve their communities. Those burned out and looted businesses for the most part will never be rebuilt as the corporations, privately owned companies, and the “Mom and Pop” businesses will never be able to obtain the insurance at a reasonable cost that they will need to rebuild and operate.

Pallets of bricks have 'randomly' appeared during protests across the US this weekend, sparking theories they were planted to stoke violence. Those taking part in demonstrations against police brutality have reported finding large stashes of the makeshift weapons on streets. Videos from New York City, Kansas City, Dallas and Fayetteville in North Carolina all appear to show piles of bricks unattended in the middle of protests. The footage has led to suggestions the slabs were either planted by police or by extremists to overshadow peaceful protests following the death of George Floyd, a black man who pleaded for air as an officer

Sunday on CNN’s “Situation Room,” former Obama administration National Security Adviser Susan Rice said the violence during the protests over the death of George Floyd was in part because President Donald Trump demonized peaceful protests, including former NFL quarterback Colin Kaepernick kneeling during the National Anthem.
