The hecatomb of unsuccessful Democratic candidates raises questions about the current viability of the Democrats that they will have to address in the next four years. It appears that the powers that be in that party were so fixated on the easy disposability of President Trump that they gave little thought to making a serious race of it this year. They mixed their own Russian-collusion Kool-Aid, posted it down, and now are discovering that it was hemlock. The party elders apparently thought they had placated the Sanders faction by reserving superdelegates to a second ballot, which neither American political party has needed to hold at its convention for more than 80 years.

In America, a black intellectual only joins the human race by joining the right wing. I had almost said when he votes Republican. Nearly all the other black "thinkers," their writers and other disseminators of ideas, excluding maybe Oprah Winfrey and Barack Obama, are too caught up in the black question to join the rest of us. Thus the majority of their works, if not all of them, are focused on black people and the police, or black people in history, or black people in business, or black people in politics. Disgraced movie mogul and Democrat party mega-donor turned convicted Hollywood sex offender Harvey Weinstein was sentenced to 23 years in prison on Wednesday following his conviction on two sex charges. The judge’s decision likely represents a life sentence for Weinstein, who is 67 and has stated that he is in poor health. Weinstein was found guilty last month of raping a hairstylist and forcibly performing oral sex on a former Project Runway production assistant. But he was acquitted of more serious charges of predatory sexual assault and first-degree rape.

The Spygate scandal is shaping up to be the most significant political abuse of government power in history. And it may be even larger than people expect. The investigation by U.S. Attorney John Durham into the origins of the FBI’s Russian collusion investigation – or as President Trump prefers to call it, the witch hunt – continues to expand. Durham reportedly opened criminal investigations last fall. And unlike the narrow Justice Department Inspector General’s review of the abuse of the FISA process, Durham is looking into the questionable activities of other government agencies, in particular the CIA and its former director John Brennan.

Before our time in the Marine Corps, some of the equipment issued to Marines, specifically helmet covers, shelter halfs (1/2 of what some call a pup tent) and ponchos had green camouflage on one side and brown on the other. Rolling the shelter half to fit onto the haversack pack, folding the poncho, and fitting the helmet cover took some time. For the sake of uniformity, every Marine would have his equipment arranged in the same manner, with the two-colored camouflage items folded so only one color showed. This was especially important when it came to Marines in formation.

Neither the decision to extend the deadline nor the mechanics of how such an extension might work are yet final. Normally, individuals must pay their prior year’s taxes by April 15 or face penalties and interest charges. People can already get extensions through mid-October to file their returns as long as they have paid on time by mid-April. This decision would go further than that.
