Chelsea Manning attempted suicide on Wednesday inside her Virginia jail cell ahead of a scheduled court appearance, her legal team said. “Chelsea Manning attempted to take her own life,” the legal team said in a statement to The Post. “She was taken to a hospital and is currently recovering.” The Army intelligence officer-turned-leaker has been held at the Alexandria Detention Center for nearly a year after refusing to testify before a grand jury that is investigating WikiLeaks. Manning, 32, was and is still scheduled to appear before a judge on Friday regarding a motion to squash the civil contempt sanctions that landed her in jail.

#14 you are correct. Manning had access to a multitude of intelligence files including State Department cables spanning both the Bush and Obama admins. Which files he managed to download and send to Assange is anyone's guess but probably made it to Assange's wikileaks site. Manning's mental illness does lead to a higher probability of suicide, but I wouldn't count out a case of the Epstein Syndrome either.

In recent years, discussion about homelessness has been circumscribed around a set of premises acceptable to progressive opinion. The homeless were thrown onto the streets, we’re told, because of rising rents, heartless landlords, and a lack of economic opportunity. Activists, journalists, and political leaders have perpetuated this line of reasoning and, following it to its conclusion, have proposed investing billions in subsidized housing to solve homelessness. But new data are undermining this narrative. As residents of West Coast cities witness the disorder associated with homeless encampments, they have found it harder to accept the progressive consensus—especially in the context of the coronavirus epidemic, which has all Americans worried about contagion.
