Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden is facing scrutiny over a dubious tale from the campaign trail, claiming that he was arrested in South Africa while trying to visit Nelson Mandela in prison.Biden, 77, first told the story at a campaign event in Columbia, South Carolina on February 11, as he tried to shake off defeat in New Hampshire, and has repeated it twice more during outreach to black voters.'This day, 30 years ago, Nelson Mandela walked out of prison and entered into discussions about apartheid,' Biden said in Columbia of the former South African president, who was imprisoned for 27 years by the apartheid government.

After racking up a big win in Nevada, Sen. Bernie Sanders is in a commanding position in the 2020 Democratic presidential race. Though he may not yet be inevitable, we’ve reached the point where it will be hard for establishment Democrats to stop him without inflicting a great cost on their eventual nominee.Sanders arguably won Iowa, and now has added a big win in Nevada to his victory in New Hampshire. TV networks, led by CNN and MSNBC, have aired a Michael Bloomberg ad more than 70 times in recent days in which the 2020 Democratic presidential hopeful falsely said he led New York City through 9/11. “I led a complex, diverse city through 9/11, and I have common sense plans to move America away from chaos to progress,” Bloomberg said in a 30-second campaign ad called “It Won’t Work.” The problem with the claim is that Bloomberg did not take over as mayor of the Big Apple until Jan. 1, 2002, several months after terrorists flew airplanes into the World Trade Center towers in Manhattan.

The Nevada State Democratic Party is asking site leaders for Saturday's caucuses to sign non-disclosure agreements that would prevent them from speaking to the media. If a giant object looks like it's going to slam into Earth, humanity has a few options: Hammer it with a spacecraft hard enough to knock it off course, blast it with nuclear weapons, tug on it with a gravity tractor, or even slow it down using concentrated sunlight.
We'll have to decide whether to visit it with a scout mission first, or launch a full-scale attack immediately.
Those are a lot of decisions to make under existential duress, which is why a team of MIT researchers have come up with a guide, published February in the journal Acta Astronautica, to help future asteroid deflectors.

Can this really be all there is?
No, I'm not lamenting the pointlessness of existence. I'm expressing despair over the state of the race to decide on a Democrat to face President Trump in November.
Over the past year, more than two dozen people have taken a shot at becoming the Democratic nominee. Today, with Super Tuesday just over a week away, six serious candidates remain. That's still a lot of options.
So why do all of them seem so unappealing? So incapable of defeating our corrupt, incompetent, and immoral president? So unworthy of being given a chance to try?

Former GOP Speaker Paul Ryan (Wis.) said Friday he disagrees with Sen. Mitt Romney's (R-Utah) decision to vote for President Trump's removal from office in this month's impeachment trial.
It was “purely a conscience vote” for Romney, Ryan said at an event at the University of Virginia, according to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.
Ryan was Romney's running mate when he ran for president as the Republican nominee in 2012.

The visceral hatred of President Donald Trump by the Democrats and their running dog media was never enough to get him impeached, but will, in the end, see America turned over to Communist rule.
“The Communists see in Bernie their one opportunity to seize control of America. Bernie is on fire and the DNC has lost control of their machine because the socialist leaning millennials are all in for Bernie.” (America Out Loud, Feb. 20, 2020) This is where the DNC will take all residents of the USA should they endorse Sanders as their presidential candidate come July.
In other words the Democrats hate President Trump so much they would turn

It’s taken just 45 days for a royal pipe dream to well and truly bite the dust. Last month, Harry and Meghan tried to bounce the ancient institution into giving them a ‘progressive new role’ as part-time royals, part-time money makers.
Harry’s 93-year-old grandmother doesn’t take kindly to being bounced or indeed being blindsided. With British regulations and royal rules on her side, the Queen has imposed her final restriction on the couple embarking on a self-imposed exile. Sussex Royal can be no more. A freshly branded website will have to be re-branded.
Their supporters will argue it’s no great loss.

WASHINGTON — Richard Grenell’s tenure as the nation’s top intelligence official may be short-lived, but he wasted no time this week starting to shape his team of advisers, ousting his office’s No. 2 official — a longtime intelligence officer — and bringing in an expert on Trump conspiracy theories to help lead the agency, according to officials.
Mr. Grenell has also requested the intelligence behind the classified briefing last week before the House Intelligence Committee where officials told lawmakers that Russia was interfering in November’s presidential election

A newly discovered species of snail has been named after teen climate change activist Greta Thunberg, scientists announced in a new study published Thursday. The critter, which was discovered in Brunei on the island of Borneo, now has the scientific name Craspedotropis gretathunbergae. "The newly described snail belongs to the so-called caenogastropods, a group of land snails known to be sensitive to drought, temperature extremes and forest degradation," snail expert and study lead author Menno Schilthuizen said in a statement. The tiny mollusk, which is about 2 millimeters in size, was discovered by citizen-scientists from the tour group Taxon Expeditions

The oil pipeline that sparked months of protests and mass arrests in 2016 has been approved for an extension by regulators in North Dakota. The three-member North Dakota Public Service Commission on Wednesday unanimously approved pipeline builder Energy Transfer Partners’ planned expansion to nearly double the number of barrels of crude oil pumped through the Dakota Access Pipeline per day. The extension would include adding a new $40 million pump station in the city of Linton to increase output from “its current maximum capacity of 600,000 barrels per day to up to 1.1 million barrels of crude oil per day,” a press release from the commission reads.

Los Angeles Times film critic Justin Chang said Friday on CNN that President Donald Trump mentioning the movie “Gone With the Wind” at his rally was a “racist dog whistle.”
Chang said, “It’s kind of unfortunate, I think, that we have a president whose entire presidency is founded on xenophobia and of course his comments are not surprising coming from someone who likes to dehumanize people of other cultures and people of color. So none of that’s surprising.”He continued, “Well, that whole thing, “Gone with the Wind” and “Sunset Boulevard,” that all smacks of a dog whistle hearkening back to an earlier era

There was a time, not long ago, when it would have been unusual for Drake, the father of a 2-year-old, to post a photo of himself wearing a sweatshirt with the logo of Sierra Canyon, a private high school in the unfashionable outer reaches of the San Fernando Valley. There was also a time when one of the world’s most famous people announcing that he was tying his brand to a prep school would have been a defining moment in the lives of every teenager there. Not so at Sierra Canyon, which has recently become the most Instagrammed high school in America.

President Trump’s “Remain in Mexico” policy at the United States-Mexico border is ensuring pregnant migrants are not using their court dates in the U.S. to then deliver their children on American soil, thus securing them birthright citizenship.
Currently, Trump’s Remain in Mexico policy has made sure that southern border crossers claiming asylum are returned to Mexico or their native Central American country while they await their asylum hearings in the U.S. The policy has prevented mass fraud where illegal aliens are released into the interior of the U.S. only to never show up for their asylum hearings and never leave the country.

In the eyes of Washington politicians and lobbyists, President Donald Trump is the most dangerous person in the world. First, he’s a rich, white male who has run a generally conservative administration. Second, he’s impulsive and quick to take offense. And lastly, he’s genuinely making progress at taking down the Swamp.
However, Trump’s progress shows just how deep the Swamp is -- because no matter how much he does, there’s always another monster crawling out.
Some of the monsters are familiar. Republican Oklahoma senator James Lankford has followed in his predecessor’s footsteps by releasing an annual report on examples of inefficient and wasteful spending in the federal government.

While off duty in Okinawa, Marine Major William Easter dove into a sea with 10-foot swells to rescue a pregnant woman who had been swept away by unexpected bad weather combined with a riptide. Easter described his decision to rescue her as a “moral obligation” that he was unable to resist. By doing so, he revealed one of the mysteries of the human condition, which is one person’s decision to risk, or even sacrifice his life, for a stranger.
There is no Darwinian reason for a person to risk his or her life to save a stranger.

The mainstream media has been doing its level best to claim that new intelligence reports about Russian meddling in the U.S. election, helping Bernie Sanders, is really all about Russia sowing chaos, or else getting Bernie up there on the Democrat slot to re-elect Trump. It's always Trump who's the real heart of these Russian affections, see, and Bernie is just a means.
It's rubbish.
The Russians have always had Sanders at a first-draft choice for president, not just in this election but in the 2016 election, too. It was obvious enough from three things:
One, the content of the 2016 hacking of the Democratic National Committee's emails. What did those expose?

On Tuesday, news broke that the Queen had banned Prince Harry and Meghan Markle from marketing the “Sussex Royal” brand. Friday morning, another story broke, saying that Meghan was whining about this because she and Harry had already invested money in selling themselves. Also on Friday, the Queen won and Meghan backed down.
Queen Elizabeth comes from a generation that holds that you can’t eat your cake and have it. In other words, when you make choices, you have to take both the benefit and the burden of that choice. Meghan Markle, on the other hand, is a child of the Veruca Salt generation.

This nation desperately needs a change in course. For all the metrics that suggest the United States is on the right track — economy booming, crime falling — all is not well. Our international stature is declining, our gap between rich and poor is widening, our respect for the rule of law and individual rights is under siege, our sacred obligations to give future generations a chance at the American dream and to defend the planet against the ravages of climate change are all but evaporating.
Pervading all of these dispiriting realities are the words and actions of a 45th president who has exploited and inflamed our divisions

Anti-Trump Fox News analyst Neil Cavuto, who often demonstrates the difference between being glib and being articulate, says he doesn’t work for Donald Trump. Cavuto took umbrage at Trump’s reaction to an A.B. Stoddard interview with Cavuto in which she falsely stated, in defending Michael Bloomberg’s Hindenburgesque Nevada debate performance, that Trump consistently lost his 2016 debates with “cringewortthy” and “disastrous” performances. None of what she said was accurate, Cavuto didn’t call her on it, later agreeing with her, and when Trump called both on it during his Colorado rally, Cavuto got righteously indignant in a statement what could have been an MSNBC audition tape...

It’s been said that once a man makes bishop in the church or general in the army he never again eats a bad meal — nor will he ever be contradicted to his face.
This probably goes for billionaires, too — because if there was one crystal-clear takeaway from Wednesday’s debate, it’s that nobody’s been giving Mike Bloomberg any guff for a very long time.
He got a face-full in Vegas; he was startled by it, he was irritated by it, he didn’t handle it well — and now the questions are: Can he recover a credible debate form? Did he ever have one?

The Trump 2020 campaign is beginning to look a lot like the 2016 campaign, where crossover Democratic votes gave Trump several key states, including Wisconsin, Michigan, and Pennsylvania. Former Vice President Joe Biden has a pretty good tale to share — but it may be a little tall. Biden, who is running for president, has been spicing up his recent campaign stump speeches with a story of how he was arrested while in South Africa trying to see Nelson Mandela, The New York Times reports. But that recollection of events has only recently come to light, and it was reportedly omitted from Biden's 2007 memoir that detailed his escapades in the country around that time. During recent campaign speeches, Biden says he "had the great honor" of meeting Mandela
