A moderate's 2020 lament

Original Article

Posted By: Pluperfect, 2/22/2020 1:16:49 PM

Can this really be all there is? No, I'm not lamenting the pointlessness of existence. I'm expressing despair over the state of the race to decide on a Democrat to face President Trump in November. Over the past year, more than two dozen people have taken a shot at becoming the Democratic nominee. Today, with Super Tuesday just over a week away, six serious candidates remain. That's still a lot of options. So why do all of them seem so unappealing? So incapable of defeating our corrupt, incompetent, and immoral president? So unworthy of being given a chance to try?

News of self-doubt, indecision, discomfort and lack of focus in the opposition is excellent news. And my support for someone like here is non-existent. I am glad that she finds no candidate to support, because her views are destructive to the country. But not nearly as destructive as most of "her" party's "potential candidates".

Fake, not a moderate. "So incapable of defeating our corrupt, incompetent, and immoral president?" "why do I catch myself shaking my head in dismay at the Democratic field?" Maybe because the dems have all run to the extreme Left and are quite obvious about it. "How about Warren herself? She's the smartest of the bunch" Gag. If you think Warren is smart instead of pedantic, you are really lame. "A candidate ... promising a continuation of the Obama administration's economic policies a couple of clicks to the left ... should be a good match for me." Oh. so you like a stagnant economy and high unemployment? What a maroon! "pondering whether any actually existing Democrat could have done more to excite me" It seems like the author is attracted to dead end losers who lie and deliver nothing. Sounds like he is an old style dem who has his head stuck firmly in the ground. Damon, the party you yearn for has evaporated from around you.

If the basis of your voting choice is a candidate's personality and civility you will never be able to make practical choices about who should fill an office. The choice should always be based on what principles and policies a candidate supports and their ability to marshal others to implement those policies. You will never get an "ideal" choice on the lesser of two evils in politics. I'm not attracted to Trump's stream of consciousness rally style but I can appreciate his pragmatism and non-ideological approach to problem solving. He has the courage and experience to question every bureaucratic assumption and think tank white paper that has shaped American politics for decades to its detriment. This is leadership and I have not seen anyone else in the Democrat field that begins to approach his skill level.

Another blast of what amounts to just more "leftist garbage" from another over educated pompous ass of the left. Better watch your mouth there skippy, calling Pres Trump "immoral" at the same time you are singing the praises of the party that breaks out with cheers for the idea of abortion AFTER birth, and pervert males calling themselves women so they can go in the ladies room and leer at the young girls. Your party hasn't had a moral compass in 50 years, and is now completely leaderless, able only to win elections in urban ghetto gerrymandered house districts, and votes in areas where the government workers and academic marxists live, your party has lost it's mind! You, and all the rest of the arrogant leftist a**holes are not only the reason he is POTUS now......but will be for another 4 yrs. Sucks to be you guys I bet!

Dear Mr. Bloomberg, or may I call you Mike? So, Wednesday didn’t quite go according to plan, did it? You’ve invested $400 million dollars in the biggest, fastest, shiniest campaign toy that money can buy. You’ve moved from zero to competitive in all the polls. But for far too much of the time on that debate stage, you still wound up looking and sounding like a guy who just fell off the pumpkin truck. We know, you’re a billionaire, and super smart, to boot. You are accustomed to people telling you that you’re the brightest, richest, funniest and best-looking guy in the room. I get it.
Trump's 'Public Charge' Immigration

Donald Trump's rule changes the so-called "public charge" rule that withholds green cards from immigrants dependent on government services. Federal immigration law says that immigrants desiring permanent legal status can be denied if they are likely to become a "public charge." Previously the government defined "public charge" as anyone receiving cash benefits. Those getting food stamps or housing assistance were exempt. The rule change means that green cards will only go to those who are free of dependency on government.

“History repeats itself, first as tragedy, then as farce,” Karl Marx said. We can be forgiven for assuming he had the outrageous behavior of the Deep State in mind. It was tragic when it became apparent that the FBI, CIA and other government agencies abused their powers to interfere in the 2016 presidential election and try to help Hillary Clinton win. Now it is farce that some of the same agencies are up to their old tricks again in the 2020 election. The evidence of foul play comes via two of the strangest newspaper stories ever published.

I’ve been enthusiastic about Mike Bloomberg’s race for president from its inception, partly on the theory that he was best positioned to rescue and represent the Democratic Party’s moderate wing. (Snip)Wednesday’s debate left Sanders unscathed. Nothing and nobody touched him. The Democratic Party’s riskiest bet is now its likeliest. I say this as someone who wrote, a little earlier than most, that Sanders had the best chance of winning the nomination, and that he has just as serious a shot at winning the presidency as Donald Trump did four years earlier.

LAS VEGAS – Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders is the winner of the Nevada caucuses, according to a Fox News projection. But rival Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden sought to portray himself as Sanders' chief rival as results showed him in second place. "You all did it for me now, now we go to South Carolina and I’m going to take this back!" Biden told supporters gathered at a union hall in North Las Vegas, Nevada. After Biden suffered disappointing fourth and fifth place finishes in the overwhelmingly white Iowa caucuses and New Hampshire primary, a stronger perfomance in Nevada's much more diverse electorate was a necessity for the former vice president.

If a giant object looks like it's going to slam into Earth, humanity has a few options: Hammer it with a spacecraft hard enough to knock it off course, blast it with nuclear weapons, tug on it with a gravity tractor, or even slow it down using concentrated sunlight. We'll have to decide whether to visit it with a scout mission first, or launch a full-scale attack immediately. Those are a lot of decisions to make under existential duress, which is why a team of MIT researchers have come up with a guide, published February in the journal Acta Astronautica, to help future asteroid deflectors.

When President Trump ticks off his accomplishments since taking office, he frequently mentions his aggressive makeover of a key sector of the federal judiciary — the circuit courts of appeal, where he has appointed 51 judges to lifetime jobs in three years. In few places has the effect been felt more powerfully than in the sprawling 9th Circuit, which covers California and eight other states. Because of Trump’s success in filling vacancies, the San Francisco-based circuit, long dominated by Democratic appointees, has suddenly shifted to the right, with an even more pronounced tilt expected in the years ahead.
