The ceaseless sadness of
Meghan ‘My Father’ McCain

‘Everyone on both sides of the media class — stop using my deceased father for political points and cheap shots,’ Meghan McCain declared on Twitter this week. ‘It is painful. It is traumatizing. And it is perverted. Let us all grieve and try and move on in peace!’ Well, as much as everyone would love to move on — it’s been nearly two years, after all — Meghan won’t let us. A daughter’s love is a beautiful thing, and losing a father is always a terrible, traumatic event, even in your thirties. It’s decidedly more difficult when your father was a public figure, as people who never knew him

The column mentions "Cockburn"... without ever identifying him. Who is he? Why is he important in this banal column about MMcCain's relentless public obsession with her deceased father. We need another memorial service to commemorate the last one.

When your entire career is based on daddy, you mention daddy in every comment and daddy was a jerk, you can expect highly opinionated comments coming your way.

Like father, like daughter. John McPain was oblivious to his glaring faults of being a major RINO and all-around pain-in-the-ass. Meghan is following in his footsteps, being myopic the same way.

Poster #1 & 2, same confusion here. The author is called Kapil Komireddi at the top of the article page but is listed as Cockburn on the other pages. Also, it is important that we not appear foolish and ill- informed - or downright dishonest. There is simply nothing but rumors and gossip to support the ideas that John McCain was responsible for the catastrophic USS Forestall fire or that he colluded with his captors in Vietnam Nam. He earned dislike for the many things he did that were unethical as a member of the House and Senate but he did some heroic things as a naval officer. His daughter loves him but why shouldn’t she? She’s a talentless Daddy’s girl who is rich and famous because she’s John McCain’s daughter.

I agree with #8. Meghan is a Beautiful young lady, but her weight is ruining her life. She is on TV where everyone can constantly critic her size. She is a prefect candidate for weight loss surgery. She would be much happier if she was happy with the way she looks. She has the money. Take a month off and do something for yourself. She has a good looking, successful husband. She could have it all, and be happy instead of always looking like she is ready to cry. I feel sorry for her!

In his life, McCain was ALL about media points and cheap shots, so why not. Sorry, Megan, but while you see your father as a shining paradignm of virtue, most of the rest of us have scars in our political backs from his knives. We remember a backstabbing, arrogant, self-serving SOB, and no matter what good things he may have done in prison camp, (even those are disputed by some) his poor grade USN work, and "do you know who I am" attitude before the POW time, and his nastiness and corruption, and backstabbing the party afterwards leaves a really nasty memory for us.

Beauty is as beauty does. Meghan has more problems than her weight. With all the advantages this lady grew up with, she acts like whiny brat mad that people are simply over her father. She liked it when Republicans would never cross her media-loving Dad because they feared retribution.

I ADMIRE John McCain the Naval Aviator. Watch the video on Youtube..... McCain's aircraft was hit by a missile while on deck on the Forestall, he did NOT cause the fire. I LOATHE John McCain the Senator. He was in love with the Fawning Leftist Media Spotlight, and did everything he could to sabotage President George W. Bush and have the media fawn over him. When his health failed, he should have retired, but he clung to his Power until he died. Even at the end, his performance, being the deciding vote on the ObamaCare repeal, his All In The Spotlight 'Thumbs Down' on the repeal, condemning 300 million people to Leftist Obamacare, was McCain Showboating for the Media Spotlight. I'm GLAD that he's GONE. Meghan, you want your Dad to 'Rest In Peace'...... SHUT YOUR PIE HOLE about him! You are the living embodiment of the saying "How Can I Miss You If You Won't Go Away?" As far as I know, YOU have done NOTHING, yourself. You Ride the Coat-tails of your Deceased Father. DO NOT MENTION HIS NAME AGAIN!

The Lost 110 Words

The U.S. Constitution is famously short—a mere 7,591 words, including its 27 amendments. That makes it all the more remarkable that 110 of those words have been, in effect, lost to the ages. These forgotten words form Section 2 of the 14th Amendment, which was designed to guard against the infringement of voting rights. The lost provision is simple: States that deny their citizens the right to vote will have reduced representation in the House of Representatives. I bet you’ve never heard of that part of our founding document.

After racking up a big win in Nevada, Sen. Bernie Sanders is in a commanding position in the 2020 Democratic presidential race. Though he may not yet be inevitable, we’ve reached the point where it will be hard for establishment Democrats to stop him without inflicting a great cost on their eventual nominee. Sanders arguably won Iowa, and he now has added a big win in Nevada to his victory in New Hampshire. So, there’s a case to be made that he’s already won the first three contests, and he should do no worse than second in South Carolina. He will then head into Super Tuesday on March 3

Sen. Elizabeth Warren’s popularity has ebbed and flowed in the early presidential caucuses and primaries, so why pick on her now? Ideas have consequences, and many of Ms. Warren’s most controversial and dangerous are being advanced by other far-left and even “mainstream” candidates. Win or lose the nomination, Ms. Warren’s ideas will keep rattling around, suggests author David Bahnsen. Her flawed diagnoses of America’s problems and her batty policy proposals have influenced not just socialist Bernie Sanders, but most of the Democratic field. Survive as a candidate or not, even Ms. Warren’s wackiest plans seem destined to live on through other extreme candidates and even in some corners of polite society.

Michael Bloomberg has a China problem, and his Democratic opponents, the media, and President Trump should harp on it relentlessly: Bloomberg’s accommodating stance toward China contradicts the emerging foreign-policy consensus on China, as well as the plain evidence before our eyes. For decades, the conventional wisdom in Washington was that China’s economic liberalization would lead to political liberalization. It was always odd that this theory caught on. The same theory had been au courant in Central and Eastern Europe in the 1980s, and in the end political revolution proceeded economic liberalization there. Nevertheless, Western policymakers clung to the notion that rising fortunes would create a Chinese middle class

It’s taken just 45 days for a royal pipe dream to well and truly bite the dust. Last month, Harry and Meghan tried to bounce the ancient institution into giving them a ‘progressive new role’ as part-time royals, part-time money makers. Harry’s 93-year-old grandmother doesn’t take kindly to being bounced or indeed being blindsided. With British regulations and royal rules on her side, the Queen has imposed her final restriction on the couple embarking on a self-imposed exile. Sussex Royal can be no more. A freshly branded website will have to be re-branded. Their supporters will argue it’s no great loss.
