A 14-year-old male was arrested and charged in the December murder of Barnard College student Tessa Majors, the New York City Police Department announced Saturday.
Majors, 18, was fatally stabbed on Dec. 11 while walking through Manhattan’s Morningside Park in an attack that left members of the community shaken.
The 14-year-old, who was taken into custody Friday night, has been charged with one count of intentional murder, one count of felony murder, a count of first-degree robbery and three counts of second-degree robbery. The teen, who is being charged as an adult, is expected to be arraigned next Wednesday.
At least six children were wounded at the beginning of a long, celebratory weekend in Chicago, in three separate shootings on the West and South sides, according to Chicago police. The UN Human Rights Council, usually in the news because it includes countries with the worst records of human rights abuse in the world, has now targeted companies that do business in the West Bank, east Jerusalem and the Golan Heights. The so-called blacklist includes 112 companies with the aim of letting the world know who it is that works in Israel’s alleged “occupied territories.”
The publication of the list has been in the works since 2016. Countries with the worst human-rights records, such as Cuba and Venezuela, pushed the list due to their anti-Israel views, not because of an attachment to international law.

The State Department is arranging for two planes to transport some 380 US citizens from the cruise liner back to the US as early as Sunday, The Wall Street Journal reported Friday night, citing an official from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

The protesters peppered Buttigieg with questions at San Francisco’s National LGBTQ Center for the Arts, immediately drawing boos from supporters of the former South Bend, Indiana mayor, according to The Guardian.
“I respect your activism, but this is a gathering for supporters of our campaign and I just got a question about my husband and I’m really excited to answer it,” Buttigieg said in response to the activists, the report said.
Democrats are vowing to repeal the GOP’s 2017 tax reform bill, starting with raising the corporate income tax. The Democrat-controlled House Ways and Means Committee recently held a hearing laying the groundwork for this tax increase, falsely claiming that the corporate rate was lowered at the expense of middle-class families.
Reality belies this rhetoric. The corporate tax reduction from 35% to 21% has benefited families and workers alike by growing the economy, raising wages, and creating new jobs.
It’s no coincidence that, in the two years since the tax cut, unemployment has dropped to a 50-year low.
Sen. Lindsey Graham requested "transcribed interviews" with 17 Department of Justice and FBI employees as part of the Senate’s investigation into abuse of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act.
The South Carolina Republican sent a letter requesting the interviews to Attorney General William Barr on Friday. Graham is chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee and is heading the congressional investigation into the FBI’s investigations into the Trump campaign in 2016.

A woman charged with first-degree murder in connection with a deadly stabbing in Maryland has been identified as the adopted daughter of former U.S. ambassador to the United Nations John Negroponte.
Sophia Negroponte, 27, was arrested Thursday night in the death of 24-year-old Yousuf Rasmussen. WTTG reported that Rasmussen was pronounced dead at the scene in the suburb of Rockville shortly after 11 p.m. Police sources told the station that Negroponte and Rasmussen were acquaintances who had been involved in a disagreement.
