US and Taliban agree to truce,
way forward in Afghanistan

Original Article

The United States and the Taliban have agreed to a temporary truce that, if successful, would open the way for a deal that would bring American troops home from Afghanistan and end 18 years of war. The peace deal would call for negotiations between Afghans on both sides of the conflict to start next month, an eventual countrywide cease-fire and a commitment from the Taliban not to harbor terrorist groups like al Qaida, while setting a timetable for the withdrawal of U.S. troops. The truce marks a milestone in efforts to end America’s longest-running conflict and fulfill President Donald Trump’s campaign pledge to bring U.S. troops home from foreign conflicts.

General Rule 1: Never trust a muslim. General Rule 2: If you do trust a muslim and he breaks his word, see Rule 1. Afghans have been at war with each other for many years. Neither side is the right side. I see nothing wrong with leaving that situation as-is and getting out of there. Even the Russians were smart enough to pack up and go after 15 years.

The Trump administration is redirecting agents from a specially trained Border Patrol unit to help ramp up arrests and removals of undocumented immigrants in "sanctuary cities," multiple law enforcement officials confirmed Friday. (Snip) As the number of unauthorized border crossings continue to decline, the new deployments indicate a shift in Homeland Security’s enforcement measures to the interior of the U.S. and the front lines of the sanctuary city debate. Such a move wouldn’t have been possible this time last year, when it was Border Patrol asking ICE for extra help to detain migrants at the southern border, according to a senior Border Patrol official.

Immigration experts and House Republicans are balking at the New Way Forward Act, a Democratic bill that is being described as an embrace of “open borders” and likely to be the most “radical” legislation ever introduced in history. Democratic Illinois Rep. Jesús García, along with several other progressive House members, introduced the New Way Forward Act in December 2019, to seemingly little fanfare. The bill, among many things, calls for the decriminalization of illegal immigration, would make it more difficult to deport convicted criminal aliens, empower immigration judges to nullify deportation orders, and also calls for the return of previously deported illegal aliens.

The Justice Department announced Friday that it is closing its investigation of Andrew McCabe, the FBI’s former deputy director, over his false statements to investigators probing an unauthorized leak that McCabe had orchestrated.
