Acting Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Kevin McAleenan will be leaving his position as the head of the agency, President Trump announced Friday evening.
In a series of posts, Trump announced that he would be replacing McAleenan next week after the former Customs and Border Protection Commissioner had served as head of DHS since April.

As regards the identity of the "whistleblower," so-called, a number of names have popped up. Though none is a certainty, each matches what is known about the perp and who was in a position to make the claims that are contained in the "affidavit."
The most widely mentioned is Susan M. Gordon. A career CIA officer, Gordon joined in 1980 and served in a number of positions. In 2017, she was principal deputy director of National Intelligence in the Office of the Director of National Intelligence (DNI). She was slated to take the top position, but evidently, President Trump had his suspicions and decided to look elsewhere,

There are no unintended consequences in politics. The mass media's loss of credibility is deliberate -- a campaign to end objectivity, which is the foundation of a free press. [Snip] Maybe it is me but maybe the press really has changed.

Students met in the Mudd Center to call and campaign for three Virginia Democrats; incumbents Wendy Gooditis and Danica Roem, and challenger Dan Helmer who is trying to unseat a Republican incumbent. A Manhattan federal court judge has issued a nationwide order blocking the Trump administration from enforcing a new regulation that would make it easier to deny green cards and visas to immigrants who might need public assistance in the future.
Judge George Daniels’ Friday ruling came just days before the so-called “public charge” rule was set to go into effect on Oct. 18.
The new rule would have made it possible to brand any immigrant with the potential to end up on public assistance as a burden, and consider that in deciding to issue green cards or visas.
Senate Democrats are urging Energy Secretary Rick Perry not to follow through with a rule that eliminates efficiency standards for about half the lightbulbs on the market.
The regulation, finalized by the Department of Energy in September, leaves in place rules for standard pear-shaped bulbs, while removing such requirements for recessed lighting, chandeliers and other shapes of bulbs.

A fifth-grade teacher at a public school in Bergen County was arrested Thursday on a child pornography charge after investigators found dozens of images on cloud storage, authorities said. Pasquale Bernaldo-Antonelli, 42, of Garfield, a longtime teacher at Ralph S. Maugham Elementary School in Tenafly, is charged with child endangerment by possessing images of child sexual exploitation, according to arrest records and a criminal complaint. Instead of putting Lankford in jail, the prosecutors cut a deal which gave him probation and mandatory drug treatment. That might not seem so bad until you learn how many laps Lankford has already made around this particular block: Lankford has been arrested more than 220 times in the past decade and — as of Monday — convicted 68 times for crimes including misdemeanor theft, trespassing, harassment, disorderly conduct and interfering with public transportation, according to his court file.

A homeless man with a history of mental illness randomly attacked a 6-year-old boy in front of his grandparent’s house in Queens on Thursday afternoon, seriously injuring the boy, police and sources said.
